Well, we have still determined that we are having a
divorce, but in NYS, there is no such thing as a nice
divorce. We have to make allegations against each
other like infidelity, endangerment, etc in order to
quit this relationship. This is the only state in the
union that does not have a no fault divorce law which
allows a couple to mediate and come to a decision that
works without getting into huge court costs and true
nastiness.

The only type of divorce available is one of legal
separation which after a period of time converts to a
divorce. Not as easy since Karl feels his place is
here, renovating the house so that we can eventually
ever sell it- because it has so many issues. So, it
would become my task to take the kids and move. The
issue there is finding a place that would put up with
my kids?

Seattle has no residency requirement except a legal
address and driver's license. Nevada has a statute of
6 weeks in the state and all these other states can
file a 129 dollar online form with a mediated
agreement. It means sitting down with the other
person and coming to some decisions and presenting
them to the state. Talk about being courteous and
nice? We don't have that in NY! Do we ever live in
the dark ages here in New York State.
