Hi Misty,
My name is Ronda and I am one of the co-founders of PLAYNET and a
Moderator of this site. My son David is in 1st grade at Linton
Elementary and is Autistic. He is participating in a first grade
classroom for Math, Reading, and Spelling and doing other one on one
work in the Special Education classroom the rest of the day including
a wonderful sight word based reading program,The Edmark Reading
Program, and some Speech and OT time during the week. He is
non-verbal and uses Signed Exact English to communicate and read. His
fine motor and self help skills also are lagging behind, but
communication is the most severe issue at the present time. He is the
reason I have become immersed in the issues at hand for the PLAYNET
group -- everything related to a diverse variety of disability issues.
Our members will be dealing with anything from speech delay, food
allergy, ADD/ADHD, to Autism and others. One common thread is that we
have EXTRA things to think about and work through each and every day.
It is tiring and overwhelming at times and hopefully together we can
learn about and explore options and resources that can help bring
improvements for our children, and some peace and control in our
lives. I look forward to meeting you Misty and hope this group will ba
a help to you. Dod you receive the "Needs Assessment" form? The form
is supposed to automatically be sent to those who join the list as a
way to see where your interest and needs lie. I am just getting the
hand of the Yahoo files and don't know if it is set properly to get
that out. Let me know if you didn't get it and I will see that you
receive one. WELCOME!!!!
Ronda
