Subject: [PLAYNET_parentslearningadvocacyyouth] RE: Carole PLAYNET Display Weighted Blankets
Hi Carole!
WOW! It is good to hear from you! I have missed you! I hope things are going well for you and your family.
First, if someone can transport the PLAYNET display to my house I will find a place for it in my basement or in my garage...it won’t be the best solution if I have to put it in my garage because my garage door doesn’t close, but at least we would still have it and it is sort of protected from the elements...if it is not too heavy it can go in m y basement (my dungeon –LOL!). It is WAY TOO NICE to pitch it...PLEASE don’t to that.
I think the 60 mg of zinc Integrative health had us add to David’s diet daily made a big difference BUT it just wasn’t the 100% solution. (Maybe he needs more zinc even than that - ?) He doesn’t go after metal like a compulsion, but is now, (since October ...maybe allergy related), chewing his shirt sleeves and collar and will always put a coat zipper in his mouth if he gets a chance.
I heard through the grapevine that your Mom makes weighted blankets out some other sort of material...do you have a creative Mom making weighted blankets?
Our recent “excitement” has been doing our annual Case Conference in two sessions with the second one just this Tuesday. Things are going along pretty well but David’s reading comprehension is not getting better fast enough to catch him up. Math is great and mostly grade level. Communication and social skills are the biggest priorities right now though, and I am so excited to have a new communication device being tired for the next 30 days! It is a small PDA sized device based on an HP PDA called the Cyrano Communicator. www.cyranocommunica tor.com It is relatively inexpensive in terms of a communication device at $1,200 I KNOW that sounds awful but most like the discontinued MT4 by Dynavox or the TANGO are around or more than $7,000!!!! I am trying to real all the instructions and manuals to get it set up as quickly as possible and give it a good trial run to see if it may be “THE” device to improve David’s expressive communication beyond him asking for McDonalds fries (full of milk and gluten) a hundred times a day. I can’t tell you how long it has been since he has had those but he keeps asking! I do make fries at home instead.
You can call me at 659-3700 or 699-2350 if you want to arrange a “drop off” of the display. You really did a terrific job on it and I think it could be used many times in the future if we can save it.
Take care!
~Ronda

Rhonda,
Very interesting article as Peyton seems to have recent lead exposure every time we take the test and also 3 times the upper level limit of lead in her system.
Peyton also suffers from PICA...the DAN doctor we see says zinc deficiency is often to blame. We added zinc to the many other items she takes, and we saw a decline in PICA.
Also, my father is currently storing the autism display from the parade in his garage. His garage is his palace, and he has been patiently asking me when I can get it out of there. I have no garage, so I have no place to store it. If someone wants to use it again and can store it somewhere, please let me know, otherwise, we are going to have to dismantle it and pitch it.
