If you didn't receive or missed the letter from the Greene Sullivan
Special Education Cooperative, PLEASE try to attend the meeting at the
Special Education Cooperative building Monday Nov. 5th at 7pm.

Even if your child is currently served in a general education
classroom with special education supports (has an IEP) it would be
beneficial for you to attend.

For example, my son participates fully in the general education
classroom, but the Severe Disabilities Special Education Teacher is
his teacher of record. I want to be sure that this Functional
Curriculum does not replace the general education curriculum as the
basis of his educational day. This Functional Curriculum seems to
lead toward these children being tested by an alternate assessment
rather than ISTEP which would relieve the school and Co-op from some
accountability for these kids. A different set of standards for
Special Education students makes me fear that the expectations for
these kids will be set too low. I have fought for years to get the
bar raised high enough that David is presented with grade level
material whenever possible.

Please pass this email on to other parents you know whose child is
served with an IEP by this Co-op.

The letter read as follows:

"Dear Parent/Guardian,

Our Severe Disabilities special education teachers recently
wrote a Functional Curriculum. The Curriculum will be used in Greene-
Sullivan Severe Disabilities special education classrooms. This
curriculum is based on the Indiana Standards and Early Childhood
Foundations. It covers the following areas:

English/Language Arts
Math
Social/Emotional skills
Functional skills
Career/Vocational skills

We would like your comments on this Functional Curriculum.

You are invited to attend a presentation for parents about the
Functional Curriculum. It will be held on Monday, November 5, 2007
at 7 p.m. at the
