Helloooooo!
I am hoping to hold our first meeting, (for parents and leaders only),
in September. I would like to hold this meeting at our church, and
asked it to be brought up at the last Council meeting for approval but
have not heard the result of that request. I feel we have stalled for
lack of a place to begin meetings. If approved, I imagine we would run
from 6:30 -8:00 p.m to include a brief overview of our vision for the
group, (maybe show the Powerpoint presentation), take the needs
assessment, and give a meeting presentation from one of the topics we
already outlined. The topic should be something that would be
applicable to the greatest number of participants, meaningful but not
too heavy. I don't remember if it was you or I that was creating the
needs assessment form.
Do you and Mark have any avalable weekday evenings in September? (I
just need one.)
I am purchasing two copies of Views From Our Shoes to be the jumping
off point for the sibling discussion/activites. I want to give you
and Mark and I time to digest that material and help shape the
direction of that subgroup. The most difficult group to incorporate
will be the affected children. The family needs assessment should
include the type of assistance their child(ren) would need to be
appropriately supervised. David for example doesn't need an actual
respite care worker but two deep High School to adult suprvisions
would suffice. Some children may need an individaul dedicated only to
them. That is where respite care would come in and the need to fund
that. We won't be able to include them in the first meeting and
probably also not the siblings group. The siblings group could be the
second subgroup up and running followed by the social
activity/playgroup for the affected kids.
Talk with you soon,
Ronda
