How to be an Effective Legislative Advocate

If you are a person with a disability or a family member of a person with a disability, YOU ARE THE EXPERT.

 

Legislators need to learn from YOU how issues affect people with disabilities.

 

If you are ready to recognize your power and put it to work for you...then you need to attend The Arc of Indiana's Workshop: How to be an Effective Legislative Advocate

 

Workshops will be held throughout the state:

Batesville - June 15

Carmel - June 21

Michigan City - June 29

Richmond - July 7

Bedford - July 19

Middlebury - July 20

Marion - July 24

Lafayette - July 26

Evansville - July 27

Sullivan - July 28

 

Highlights:

- Overview of How a Bill Becomes a Law in Indiana

- How to Determine Who Are YOUR Legislative Officials

- How to Establish a Relationship with YOUR Local Legislators

- Hands-on Training on Writing Letters and Other Communications

- Role-Playing on Speaking One-On-One with Legislators and Offering

Testimony

 

Attendance: Limited to 50 People per Location

 

$20 for Family Members of a Person with a Disability

 

Funds from the Governor's Council for People with Disabilities are available to cover the cost of registration for family members of people with disabilities. Simply check this option on the registration form.

 

$10 for Self-Advocates

Cost of registration for Self-Advocates will be covered by the Indiana Autism Sertoma Club. However, registration is required.
