If you have received this email in error or would not like to receive emails in the future, simply reply to this email with the subject, “Delete from List” ABA THERAPY: PRACTICAL STRATEGIES FOR GENERALIZATION OF SKILLS INTO EVERYDAY LIFE WHO: Jennifer LaMarca and Vincent LaMarca, M.A., BCBA, are behavior consultants with the Lovaas Institute and reside in Indianapolis. They have utilized the Lovaas Model of Applied Behavior Analysis for the past 11 years. They will present the fifth in a series of presentations on the Lovaas Model. WHAT: Behavioral treatment has often been criticized for “rote learning” and “robotic responses.” However, difficulty transferring skills from one situation to another is a characteristic of many children with autism, regardless of the type of intervention that is used. To overcome this difficulty, interventions based on the principles of applied behavior analysis program for generalization throughout treatment in a variety of different ways. At the Lovaas Institute, particular emphasis is placed on empowering parents to expand upon their child’s learning throughout the day. This presentation will highlight a few key guidelines for effective generalization and then spend the majority of the time reviewing practical ways that parents can help facilitate generalization of skills into everyday life. Practical strategies will be given for children at different levels of skill development.
