PLEASE tell us that you got tested for nickel allergy!  Vi, who is a member here had a PFO closure, found out after that she is allergic to nickel and now has to undergo open heart surgery to remove the device.

If you did get tested and all is well, then I wish you the best of luck!!!!!

Take care of yourself,
Marci

If you can get into see a dermatologist ASAP, Im sure they will be glad to do the nickel allergy test. I had mine done like 3 weeks ago. It was annoying but painless. Since there is a piece of tape stuck to your arm for like 2 days. Please let us know how it goes. Im have a PFO closure done also, Im just need to schedule it. But Im still nervous about it!!!!

Hi there,
I have had 2 strokes as well, and then had the pfo closure.  So you were taking plavix and you were still having TIA's?  Do you have really bad migraine auras?  Sometimes the prolonged vasoconstriction of a migraine aura can cause a stroke, it's called migrainous stroke.  Do you have any other diseases that might make your blood coagulate, like Fibromyalgia or Lupus?
I had the PFO closure done, but I became allergice to the nickel and cobalt in the device.  I would strongly suggest that you get an allergy test, it's a simple patch skin test where a dermatologist puts a patch on you, and if you grow a bump there in a few days, then you are allergic.  Better to find out now, then get the thing implanted in your heart like I did.  I have to have open heart surgery now to get mine removed.
Getting a 2nd opinion on the cause of your strokes is not a bad idea either.  Verapamil, a calcium channel blocker, is a good drug to keep your arteries from spasming.  Alot of people with aura and migraine use it, and it's been around for years and is pretty safe.
Good luck to you, I understand not wanting to have any more strokes, the two that I have had have left me partially blind and with some drooping in my face.  But check out all your alternatives before you have a piece of metal put into your heart.
Good Luck,
Vi

My 22 yo son had his closed 6 weeks ago.  I am curious to hear if anyone felt more sustainable energy after.  They thought he might see that, after it seals completely.

It was very easy, the procedure, and very quick.

Hello Terijo,

I did feel energy after my procedure, but for some unknown reason, it only lasted about 1 year. I am going on to my second year now and I feel tired more often. So I am not sure if I should be concerned. Is your son on any meds?

He is still on Plavix & Aspirin but we anticipate the Plavix going away once his heart is completley healed over the device.  I am sorry to hear your extra energy went away.  If it went away significantly, I would look into it.  A year is a long time for a placebo effect to last so something  must have changed, probably having  nothing to do with the procedure at all!  Hormones or something, maybe.

Everyone in my household has undergone a lot of stress the past year, my son especially.  He still has difficulty sleeping due to the stroke hitting in his sleep.  The one place you should feel the safest!

Thanks, Terijo
