Hi Sarah,
Yeah I had that test done, a TEE. I was the same way, I told the Dr's if I could not have it done and they pretty much told me that if I didnt have it done then there would be no way of finding out if I really had a PFO or not. So I went through with it. The part about the numbing spray down the throat was bad. I gagged a couple of times and then was ok, my cardiologist that did the test was very nice and humorous so it took the ease of things. And before you know it, the nurse gave sedated me and I was out! When I woke up I didnt even know what had happened. Well I only remember a small part of a black tube being down my throat but that was it. My throat was just a little sore afterwards but ice cream really made it feel better. Dont worry, everything will be ok. I had my PFO closed with an implant almost 4 months ago and Im doing fine. A little depressed sometimes but Im good.

Hi everyone
As part of a research study I'm involved in, on PFO and migraine, the
doctor has said I'll need to have a trans-oesophageal echocardiogram. I
know it's silly, but this prospect really terrifies me as I've a real
phobia about vomiting, including even just retching. She said that I'd
be lightly sedated, and have a throat spray to numb the area, but that
I'd need to be conscious enough to swallow the tube when they tell me
to. Please can anyone who's had this pocedure tell me -- honestly --
what it's like. Is it as awful as it sounds? Or even just mildly
unplesant? I do have the option to pull out of the study, and am
seriously thinking of doing this to escape this test!
Info very much appreciated!
Thanks
Sarah
