I have just been in touch with the company who makes Amplatzer, as I
have recently discovered that the FDA is looking into a study done at
USC about Amplatzer and nickel allergy. It seems that the device has
nickel in it, and many people are becoming allergic to the device. I
am, I was just tested by my allergist. The symptoms are unresolved
heart palpatations and increased migraine auras. I have had both of
these as of late, as well as hair loss and rashes. Now I do have
Lupus, and my Lupus (an auto immune disease like rheumatoid arthritis)
has been going insane since the surgery a year ago, but I have just
tested positive for the nickel allergy. This is not good.
Unfortunately the only treatment is that you have the implant removed,
and that takes open heart surgery. Not a happy option. I have a
wonderful article sent to me by the Amplatzer company about the USC
study and I will copy and post it when I get back home in a few days
from my vacations. In the meantime, here is an article I found
online, although it is not as comprehensive as the one I have.
