Good day to you all.
I have next to no experience with lenses or optics of any type, but I
have a question and I am looking for an "expert" to point me in the
right direction. If anyone can can help it would be greatly
appreciated.
Basically, we have a problem with parallax. Let's say we have a
survey instrument (that can be focused) which passed orientation to
another sight which is set to infinity and can not be focused. The
second sight has a number of lenses, one of which has a reticle
pattern on it. The problem is that in order to eliminate parallax in
the second sight, the survey instrument must be a minimum of 100m
away. That 100m is not the exact number, but an estimation with a
fudge factor built in. What I would like to know is how does one
find out what that actual distance is? I can provide as much
information as you need to help me walk through the problem, but I
don't know the focal length of the sight. I am trying to find it,
but right now I would be happy just to understand what is happening
in general terms.
Thanks in advance.
Trevor

Dear friends,
gaurav has told us magic trick to find the polaroid lenses...indeed its very
useful. I am just giving you a brief history how and when polaroid lenses were
invented, what function they do and which are the varoius useful hues are
available ...
Regards, KAPIL GERA
What is glare?
Even on overcast days, glare can distort vision and produce such side-effects as
reduced visibility, color distortion, eye irritation and fatigue. Specially
designed to eliminate the "optical noise" glare causes, Polaroid’s vertical lens
filter embedded in the lens fully eliminates blinding glare. It does this by
selectively absorbing the glare light waves traveling in all directions except
the vertical plane, which brings "useful" light to our eyes.
POLAROID LENSES
When bright sunlight is reflected off a horizontal surface it often creates a
harsh white light known as glare. Common examples of this are wet roads on
bright days and shimmering seaside views! The result of glare is seriously
reduced vision and some discomfort.
Polaroid lenses are constructed in such a way that 99% of all this horizontal
glare is blocked out.
What’s more, Polaroid lenses also block out the sun’s harmful UVA, UVB and UVC
rays which can cause permanent damage to the human eye.
many vendors supplies a range of Polaroid sunglass lenses and prescription
sunglass lenses in a choice of grey, brown, amber and magenta colour hues and
other colours which are mentioned below.
Please note: Polaroid lenses are not suitable for night driving.
polaroid lenses invention
Polaroid founder Dr. Edwin Land invented the first synthetic polarizing material
in 1929 and Polaroid went on to develop the first polarizing lenses: used to cut
down on glare - the light that reflects off streets, water, snow, sand and other
horizontal surfaces.
According to Polaroid, their sunglass lenses eliminate up to 99% of
horizontally reflected glare. So everything appears brighter and sharper with
more realistic colour and better contrast.
Further, all Polaroid lenses are manufactured to block virtually 100% of harmful
UVA, UVB and UVC rays up to 400 nanometers
Polaroid Lens Colors - Glare reducing lenses
Grey CAll purpose sun lens. Natural Color contrast. Driving, Water activities,
Salt water fishing, Cycling, Skiing. Brown CAll purpose sun lens. Sharp

Amber High Contrast
All purpose sun lens. Enhances color. Filters Blue Light. Low light. Sharp
definition on golf course. Fishing, Shooting, Cycling, Skiing. YellowImproves
depth perception. Hi-Contrast for low light in late evening and early morning.
Fishing, Shooting, Cycling, Golf. Neutral Grey
Indoor use - reduces glare from lights.
Neutral Brown
Indoor use - reduces glare from lights.
Apple Green
Shooting - black targets.

balls stand out. Grey A TranshadeAdjusts to different lighting conditions.
Becomes darker in brighter light. Brown A TranshadeAdjusts to different lighting
conditions. Becomes darker in brighter light.
ideally suited for
outdoor sports activities from mountain biking and skiing
tennis - anywhere where safety, protection and visual acuity are crucial.
These lightweight lenses improve depth perception, enhance colors and sharpen
contrasts - the basic requirements for high performance, functional eyewear.
Highly impact resistant Polaroid polarized PC Lenses now available
polarized polycarbonate (PC) lenses lightweight, impact resistant PC lens with
polarizing efficiency
Shatterproof for active lifestyles
The inferior sunglass lens with inferior optical quality, creates eye fatigue
and general discomfort for the wearer.
Polaroid PC lenses have a thickness of 1.4 mm, making them lightweight, flexible
and cosmetically appealing - yet maintaining shatter resistance.
PC polarized lens are available in a base curve 6 and 8 and At present, the lens
color comes in a popular gray-green tint. As with all Polaroid lenses, its
Polycarbonate lens includes the original polarizing film, absorbing greater than
99% of blinding glare, as well as providing 100% UV protection.

Subject: [Optical Labs] Generate interest in contact lenses with a patient
seminar
How does the public define an expert on any subject? It's the person
who presents a seminar. Hosting a patient seminar is an easy and
inexpensive way to increase your contact lens practice. There are so
many new developments in contact lenses, and there is a segment of
the public that wants more information, so it's a natural topic for a
seminar.
Before you reject the idea because you "don't do public speaking",
let me show you how easy it is. Remember, it's just like talking to a
patient, and you do that every day. And the only people who attend a
seminar are those who are interested in the topic - so the group will
be receptive.
Here are the step-by-step ways to go about it.
Pick a topic. You need to be more specific than simply contact
lenses. "Contacts for Bifocal Wearers" is a great one. Cosmetic color
lenses or non-surgical myopia reduction are others.
Where will you hold it? Your office is the natural spot - in your
reception area or optical. Wherever you can place lots of chairs. If
not your office, maybe the library?
When to hold it? I think a weekday evening after work is best,
possibly at 5pm, which allows people to come straight from work and
not have to go out after dinner. Or 7pm works too.
Serve refreshments... coffee, soft drinks, cookies, snacks.
Invite your own patient base and the general public. Send invitations
to your patients that meet the criteria, such as between ages 40 and
60 and a last visit within 2 years.
Run a newspaper ad announcing the seminar. State that reservations
are required. This is great PR for your practice... even people who
don't come to the seminar will still perceive you as an expert and a
leader.
Your staff will need to be present, you may have to pay overtime, or
hold it during normal office hours and simply don't schedule any
appointments during that period.
Plan on talking for about 20 minutes, then taking questions. It needs
to be short and simple. This is not a CE lecture. You may want to
follow with something special - see the next point.
Consider a one-on-one review of interested candidates. If they are
your patients, you can review the chart. If they are new to your
practice, have a tech neutralize their glasses or do an
autorefraction. Or, do a live fitting on a patient in front of the
group - great for cosmetic lenses - sort of an eye makeover. Have a
local salon owner join you and give make-up tips.
Have all the attendees register, so you can send a follow-up mailing.
Tips for the lecture
Using slides or transparencies is an easy way to organize your talk
and to guide you through what you want to say without the need for
notes (they are your notes). Don't put everything on the slides -
just the main points and then you can elaborate.
If you have a computer, consider making slides on Microsoft
PowerPoint. Use one the program's templates and just type what you
want to show on the slide. You may be able to borrow an LCD projector
if you don't have one, or connect your PC to a TV set.
Another easy visual aid is to make transparencies and use an overhead
projector. These projectors are fairly inexpensive to buy (Office
Depot) and will serve you for future seminars and staff meetings. You
can load blank transparency sheets in any photocopier and simply copy
from plain paper (which is printed with your slide text - or
diagrams). When you type up your pages, use large fonts, like about
36, and use bullet points.
If there is a short video available on the subject, show it.
Provide AOA or corporate brochures on your subject for people to take
home.
At the end of the seminar, tell the audience what to do next...
i.e. "if you want to try these lenses, make an appointment before you
leave tonight."

LOL. Yes..it sux big time! I'm wearing an 8 year old pair of Linda Evans'
in a 57mm eyesize...cuz they fit me properly! I also wear a neat old pair
of rimless Cazal's, for which I cut custom lenses to fit my wide head. It
worked perfectly, so that's why I want to do it again with the following
frames::
(I'm in Canada, but these frames should be available everywhere)
The frames I'm going to try are the Kenneth Cole Whimsical series. There
are 7 different frames in the series, and at least 3 are suitable for men.
Try the "a", "d", or "v" models. A and D are "metal (probably monel), and V
is titanium. They have 18 to 21mm bridges, but only 135mm temples so you
may need to lengthen the temples yourself. (actually...if you're a lab
tech or skilled optician, you could choose any of the 7 frames in this
series, and just hand-cut a pattern to whatever lens size/shape you
wish...these are all true 4-point rimless frames. No nylon wires at all.)
FWIW....I have several traditional mens frames in my books and in
stock....square or aviator shapes in sizes up to 58mm. So...if traditional
mens frames appeal to you, there are a few styles still available out there.
Let me know if you need any more info!
Sherry.

If you're concerned about your Rx fitting these frames, use a hi-index

Subject: [Optical Labs] "my face is just toooooo wide"
I have a problem. I have an extra wide face apparently (16 cm
glasses frames needed). I have searched for two weeks and cannot find
frames big enough in a rectangular frame (round face). Someone
suggested the "warp" style sunglasses frames with a clear
prescription, but I have +1.75 -550 x14 and can't do it. I need a
+2.50 -600 x160
lens size of 60 or so. I simply cannot believe I can't find this. Can
anyone help me, I look bad enough without having to wear glasses too
small for my face. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you
