Subject: Feb. Honduras medical mission report - A huge success !

 2 June Report

IHS (International Health Services) had another great year of medical mission
work in Honduras!    In February we sent about 120 medical and support people
to 8 team locations.  Most were in very poor villages where there is NO health
care available.  During the 2 weeks of work, we saw over 10,000 patients !  We
also handed out about 1500 prescription and reading glasses plus many pharmacy
items to those in need.  The surgical sites did over 100 needed surgeries.
 Quite an accomplishment.

A large part of the huge succces we had in caring for the desperatley poor was
the huge prepararion work done last summer and fall to recruit the many workers
plus to gather all the needed supplies for each of the team sites. We are now
starting this important prep work again for next February’s medical trip. In
future e-mail reports, we will mention the need for many medical professions
plus quite a few support people (interpreters, engineers, radio operators and
many general helpers). Watch for those e-mail updates.

This year, we ran 6 medical clinics, 6 dental clinics, 3 surgical sites, and 2
eye glasses clinics. The medical clinic teams were in LaEsperanza, Marcovia,
Yocon, Lisangnipura, Uhi, and on the Kruta River. The dental clinics were in
Raya, Uhi, Lisagnipura, LaEsperanza, Marcovia, and on the Kruta River. The
surgical sites were in LaCeiba and Puerto lempira. The eye glasses teams were in
Marcovia and Puerto Lempira.

If you want more info, email me at JMKKEK@...

General Mission Info: For those of you who may not have gone or read any past
information on our medical trip, here are the basics. Each year, during the last
2 weeks of February, IHS will send 10 or more medical, dental, surgical, & eye
glasses teams to Honduras. We will also send ahead 1 or 2 container shipments to
get all the needed medical supplies, team food, and pharmacy supplies there.
Each year, our hope is to have about 7 or 8 medical clinic teams to include a
dentist on each team. We also hope to have 2 or 3 surgery teams and 2 or 3 eye
glasses teams. We try to send several support people (interpreters, engineers,
radio operators, and general helpers) on each team to help us provide quality
care to all we see. Each year we see about 600 to 800 people (average) at EACH
of the 8 or so clinic sites. So, we do touch many lives and most are people who
have NO medical or dental care available to them except our once a year visit.
NOTE that our
biggest need right now (besides medical folks) is Spanish interpreters.

You can see a glimpse of what we do at: www.IHSofMN.org (check out the 2008
NewsBreak newsletter!) We are based in the Minneapolis metro area but
participants are from all over the US and many other countries. There are IHS
Board members and others who you can talk with to learn more.

Give me a call or send me an e-mail if you are interested or want more detailed
info.

The needy of Honduras and I thank you.

       May 2008

What clients can and cannot control
       A strategic approach to retirement
One of the most common questions that financial professionals get is
whether or not their clients should rely on receiving Social Security in
retirement. With the media hype and discussion about Social Security being
under-funded and going away it's no wonder that Baby Boomers are concerned. But,
the true concern is, in fact, control. Many pre-retirees have little control
with regard to Social Security and they, and their financial professionals,
might be better served concentrating on areas of retirement that they can
control.

The concerns of financial professionals and their clients are well
founded. Our markets are volatile, and the complexity of our retirement systems
just seem to be more and more overwhelming. Unfortunately being overwhelmed
tends to scare people into inaction and that is precisely what shouldn't happen
when time horizons are short.

Now is the time to take action. We understand this reluctance to take
action. In response, we have partnered with Allianz Life to offer an innovative
retirement strategies program called Re-Engineering RetirementSM.

First, this program shows the financial professional how to focus on the
realities of retirement. These must be dealt with before exploring the possible
"what ifs" of retirement. Those potential scenarios might not be available with
their clients' current financial strategy(ies).

Secondly, the Re-Engineering Retirement program has developed the Seven
Sources of Income approach to retirement needs, of which Social Security is just
one of those sources. The program uses Social Security as an income baseline and
discusses the fact that this category is one where there is little control.

Another source of income where the client has little or no control is in
the Employer Sponsored Plan category dealing specifically with Defined Benefit
plans. Many companies are changing these plans or eliminating them totally.
Again, there is minimal control. But there is hope. The Re-Engineering
Retirement program teaches the financial professional how to help the client
focus on those retirement income sources where the client has control.

Examples of income sources with more control are 401(k) matches,
appropriate IRA rollovers, Roth IRAs to help control taxes in retirement,
required minimum distributions, and phased or continued employment after
retirement.

If you're dealing with an increase in questions about the complex nature
of retirement, you owe it to yourself, and your clients, to contact us access to
the program.

Please note that Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America, its affiliated
companies, and their representatives do not give legal or tax advice. Encourage
your clients to consult their tax advisor or attorney.

Despite recent news reports, short term interest rates remain
steady. These rates are used to set credit card rates as well as adjustable rate
mortgages.
a.. Prime rate: The rate charged to the most creditworthy
individual or corporate borrower. This rate usually is paid in addition to a
fixed margin (say prime+4.0 percent). As prime varies your rate varies.

a.. Discount: This is the rate which makes headlines as the
Federal Reserve board meets every 14 weeks. It is the rate that the 12 Federal
Reserve banks charge commercial banks to borrow money. The lower the rate, the
more profits banks make in lending money to us unfortunate.

a.. Fed funds: This is the rate each commercial bank charges
each other for overnight loans and funds held at their respective Federal
Reserve district bank. Its British relative is the LIBOR rate has 1-month,
3-month, 6 month and 1-year tiers.

a.. 11th district cost of funds: The 11th district's savings
account rate which is used as benchmark for adjustable rate mortgages

As we weather the Wall Street mess, it is important to keep a
clear understanding of the American economic system. Unfortunately, not
including securities from our oversees neighbors, American securities are almost
completely unprofitable on a point-to-point basis beginning October 9, 2000
onward. We look forward to working with you and please visit
www.FreedomTreeFinancial.com to contact a broker.

Unfortunately, not
including securities from our oversees neighbors, American securities are almost
completely unprofitable on a point-to-point basis beginning October 9, 2000
onward. We look forward to working with you and please vist

             Dear Reader:

With the recent news regarding financial markets and announcements
made by several firms, we want to share some information that you might find
helpful. First and foremost, we want you to know that your money is safe with
us, and we will always stand by our commitments to our policyholders. As
difficult as these times are for all of us, this is when we earn our keep - by
providing consumers with the protection and income they desire.

FreedomTree Carrier Spotlight: Strength of Allianz

             A consistent long-term approach

At Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America we follow a
conservative investment philosophy designed to weather the markets and diversify
risk regardless of conditions. One result of this philosophy is that our
sub-prime exposure is less than 1/10th of 1 percent of our investment portfolio.
We take a long-term approach, because we're committed to helping you meet your
long-term financial goals.

             Our investment management philosophy

               * We are confident in our investment portfolio, which consists
primarily of high-quality, investment-grade bonds.
               * The bonds are specifically matched to our policyholder
obligations while still providing a high degree of liquidity. You can be
confident in our ability to keep the promises we make to our policyholders.
               * We manage the portfolio to a credit quality of AA, or Very
Strong1, according to Standard & Poor's.

Limited exposure to Lehman Brothers and AIG

               * Because of our diversification, the direct exposure that Allianz
Life Insurance Company of North America has to Lehman Brothers and AIG
represents about 1/2 of 1 percent of our assets under management. We are
confident in our ability to manage that risk regardless of what happens to
Lehman or AIG.
             Strength in numbers
Here are some facts about Allianz Life and our parent company,
             Allianz SE:

               * According to Forbes, April 18, 2008, Allianz SE is the 14th
largest corporation in the world based on a composite of sales, profits, assets,
and market value.
               * Allianz Life has approximately $70 billion in assets under
management as of December 31, 2007, and we have a Standard & Poor's financial
strength rating of AA, or Very Strong1. This rating was most recently confirmed
September 1, 2008.

As the situation warrants, we will continue to keep you informed.
But keep in mind that even as markets change, our approach to helping to
safeguard your financial future won't. We seek steady, reliable performance to
help you achieve your financial goals.
             1. This is the 4th highest of 21 possible ratings.

Insurance and annuities are issued by Allianz Life Insurance Company
of North America. Guarantees are backed by the financial strength and
claims-paying ability of Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America and do
not apply to the performance of the variable subaccounts, which will fluctuate
with market conditions.

We urgently need an optometrist and several eye care professionals for the Feb
medical trip to Honduras.  Read the below story to see what it will be like if
you decide to go.  See detailed note after the letter (and attached map)

Eye Care In PLP, Honduras
   I found out about IHS through E-Bay.  That's right-E-bay.  I'm an optometrist
living in Chicago and I had some old optometric instruments to sell.  A
gentleman named Charlie Brown asked me if the equipment was in good enough
working condition for a clinic in Honduras. I told him it was and asked if there
was a need for a volunteer optometrist.
Four months later I was in Puerto Lempira, Honduras and our team was seeing
90 patients a day!   The work was both tiring and gratifying.  The eye team
consisted of me and five other IHS volunteers, as well as 3 local translators
who willingly volunteered their time all day for two weeks.  We set up our eye
clinic in a defunct discotheque. We borrowed electricity from the next door
neighbor, by using several long extension cords hoisted over the fence.
Our living quarters were at the Catholic Church's dormatory.  The dorm type
room was modest but comfy with rows of beds.  It was shared by all the guys from
the eye team as well as the IHS surgery team who did their work at the local
hospital.   At the end of each day we had a chance to sit around and swap
individual stories about the day¢s work, as well as discuss with one another how
to make the next day better for our patients.  I was thankful to be taken under
the wing of veteran IHS volunteers like John and Karen Kirckof, John Pope, Drew
Mathews, Jack Riordan, John Wagner, Dr.Brown, Jim and JoAnn Prater, as well as
all of the others who made me feel like a welcome part of the team (Jane, Dick,
Emiley, Diana and Ricardito).
Each morning and everyday after lunch we were met at our "Optica del
Discoteque" by at least 30 waiting patients.  We met some that had walked for
two days to get there!  The need for routine eye care was very apparent.   It
was amazing and inspiring to see the thousands of eyeglasses donated by the
Lions club "in action" at our little hub.  We ended up seeing about 750 patients
and giving out 1100 pairs of glasses.  For those who needed surgery, we had a
referral system worked out with Dr. Ponce who came to Puerto Lempira from La
Ceiba after we left. Thanks to him, his wife, and Dr. Marianne Serkland, 13
surgeries were performed from our referral base.
I am very grateful to have formed close relationships with all of the
wonderful and gracious people on the IHS team.  We may come from different parts
of the country and different backgrounds, but we all have one thing in common: a
desire to help as many people as we can.  Meeting the IHS volunteers and seeing
the grateful look on all of the faces of the people we helped made traveling to
Honduras the most rewarding experience-clinical or otherwise-that I have had.

Matt Gifford, Optometrist
PLP Eye team

***
Important note: IHS (International Health Services) hopes to send about 100
medical, eye care, surgical, and support people to Honduras from 13 Feb to 1
March, 2009  They will travel to small towns and villages where their care is
critically needed!  Many spouses and friends go, too.  If there is any way that
this may work for you, just give me a call and I will give you all the details
you need.  Do note that we are doing signups now as we are putting team rosters
together so we can see what supplies, gear, meds, and personal gear we need to
gather for our IHS container shipment the end of Dec.

Call me if you have any questions!  Karen and I were on Matt's eye team this Feb
and are signed up to go again.

Warm regards,

John Kirckof
