Hi Sherry,
Nice to meet You to!…
Well as I said introducing myself to the gang in optical labs, for the moment we
are in a transition period and under Temporary Administration of the United
Nations. We are not a country yet unfortunately, and this way we are facing so
many difficulties to manage and perform our occupation. For the same reason
there are still so many gaps in a system that allows everyone to open a
workshop.
Last fifteen years in a region we have past through a various struggle and wars.
We were all one country (former Yugoslavia) now have become 7 of them, or 8
…whatever. Since I was a student in Zagreb (now Croatia) as the war begun I had
to move back to Kosova, than continued for a few months in Skopje
(Macedonia)…and imagine the war begun there as well. I moved back to Kosova
again and started my own business in 1993 since when I’ve had my own Optical
workshop. I’ve finished some studies but never graduated. During the war
(imagine another and the last one in Kosova) my workshop has been destroyed and
burglarized. In 1999 I’ve started all over again and for the moment I have
Essilor DIAFINE (hand machine) and a Essilor LME 50 lens meter…and of course
some of the petite equipments.
So this is a kind of my up and down during the past fifteen years and my ten
years of experience. I do work all kind of lenses (monofocals, bifocals and
progressive lenses) frameless and other all hand made …lol…(ha, ha…) I know You
guys can’t imagine that but …That’s the way it is…and than I also work any kind
of frame adjustments and repair…of course hand made…what else….this is all
about…well all that you guys do with automatic machines, you know any kind of
fitting, repair, adjustment …so on. Than lens order, that’s another nightmare,
there’s still no lens making company in a region and we order usually in Italy
or Austria… that takes weeks and sometimes months to get a pair of glasses…but
we manage somehow, and I may say that our costumers are very patient, otherwise
you would bankrupt for a month.
Wowowoooow…I guess this would be enough for today…sorry if I bothered you…Thnx
for replying, I do appreciate, Thank You.
P.S. Does your cat gets tired anytime,…lot of running…lol (ha, ha,)
Best Regards, Jak

Nice to meet you! Maybe you could tell me what kind of requirements and
licensing you need to be an Optician in your country?
I'm an Optician and lab tech in Canada...I've been practising since 1987.
Kind regards,
Sherry.
