Low Back Pain

Students will be given an advanced awareness of low back anatomy and the use of massage techniques to address issues particular to clients with chronic low back pain. 15% of the adult US population have had persistent back pain at some time in their lives. 5 million Americans are partially disabled by back problems, and 2 million are so severely disabled that they cannot work. Using lecture, illustrations and handouts the instructor will describe some of the more common low back syndromes. The instructor will present detailed information on surface anatomy of the low back; described by structure, actions, and significance. By demonstration and table time, students will be taught several massage techniques used to work with low back pain.

 

Advanced PAK series Begins

Students review the Anatomy covered in Basic then guided through additional focus on muscles relating to the area being introduced during each phase of continued study.  The course will also cover an in-depth study of Systems Anatomy, whereby students are taught about the Nervous, Cardiac, Respiratory, Digestive, Circulatory, Skeletal, Integumentary, Muscular, Endocrine, Excretory and Reproductive System.

Advanced Pathology series Begins

4 hrs/Class

$50

As an introduction to the theories and mechanisms of disease, this course focuses on the pathological conditions most likely to be encountered in a massage therapy practice. Special attention will be given to precautions, contraindications and indications for massage sessions when working with massage clients exhibiting specific conditions. When and how it is appropriate to refer clients to other health care practitioners will be included
