Whiplash Treatment

L Nosak Instructor. This class will cover structural aspects of whiplash including one's posture at time of impact and identifying myofascial strain patterns. Whiplash is a whole body injury and will be assessed as such. Massage techniques to help restore normal range of movement to motion restricted tissue will be discussed, demonstrated and practiced. | |

Fibromyalgia

C Young Instructor. Using a combination of lecture, anatomical illustrations, handouts and technique demonstration in a classroom setting, the instructor will present a class that is 3 hours lecture and 3 hours practical application. The instructor will discuss the causes and conditions related to fibromyalgia. Great attention will be paid to the use of light and moderate pressure as studies have shown that too aggressive an approach can exacerbate fibromyalgia symptoms. The teacher will also discuss relaxation therapy, exercise coaching and goal setting for the client. At the end of the class, students will have a comprehensive understanding of the physiological components of fibromyalgia, as well as knowledge of current allopathic and alternative treatment approaches. The student will also have knowledge of low force or non- force massage techniques complimentary to Swedish massage that have been proven beneficial to clients with fibromyalgia

Aromatherapy

Wendy Ruggiero Instructor. Aromatherapy is a treatment designed to enhance massage therapy by the correct use and application of essential oils obtained from plants. Students will learn introductory techniques involved in working the whole body and how to incorporate aromatherapy into their Swedish massage.

Students review the Anatomy covered in Basic then guided through additional focus on muscles relating to the area being introduced during each phase of continued study. The course will also cover an in-depth study of Systems Anatomy, whereby students are taught about the Nervous, Cardiac, Respiratory, Digestive, Circulatory, Skeletal, Integumentary, Muscular, Endocrine, Excretory and Reproductive System.

Advanced Pathology series Continues

As an introduction to the theories and mechanisms of disease, this course focuses on the pathological conditions most likely to be encountered in a massage therapy practice. Special attention will be given to precautions, contraindications and indications for massage sessions when working with massage clients exhibiting specific conditions. When and how it is appropriate to refer clients to other health care practitioners will be included
