“Genius Engineer” by Mukund V. Deshpande was an
excellent reading and thought provoking piece (Camp
Newsline, Oct 27). After describing the extremely
intricate method of building the nest by weaver birds,
the author has asked a pertinent question: Is it
necessary to have a big brain to build a nest? Nature
says, “No”.

Such innate behavior of birds and animals could be an
eye-opener to human beings. I had a similar
experience. I was bed-ridden for months together due
to acute back pain and sciatica with an added
complication of a slip-disc. When I was unable to move
at all, I watched the intermittent twitching by common
sparrow. It jumps from branch to branch on trees and
goes on twitching.

Since I could not move at all, I started twitching my
feet. And l and behold, I started feeling better, the
back pain disappeared instantaneously never to return
again. Similarly, by watching the dogs and cats
stretching their backs for a moment each time they
take to run, I started stretching my back each time I
got up from the bed or after sitting down on a chair
for a while, It has helped strengthen my back even
further.

Mother Nature can teach us so many more things.
