Hats off to Sweden.
Sweden abolishes oil
By 2020, Sweden plans to permanently park all of the country's gasoline-run cars and convert all oil-heated homes. Minister for Sustainable Development Mona Sahlin says Sweden aims to gradually become oil free over the next 15 years. Measures to make the shift will include tax discounts, energy efficiency, and large-scale investments in renewable energy and research.
This commitment is in stark contrast to other government's such as in Australia where a recent agreement with other coal focused nations will allow greenhouse gas emissions to double by 2050. Such a doubling would lead to catastrophic and potentially irreversible climate change.
