Hi Melanie...
I am a student of Natural Health of CCNH and I have read a lot about
treating the depression through the Naturopathic way. I have had some
people to ask me about it too. Ofcoarse, no body likes to depend on
drugs for treatment. My dad too, is a depression patient and earlier,
he used to depend on drugs like Dormin which is very addictive and
this drug also created digestive problems for my Dad. To get relief
from it, he takes an ayurvedic medicine known in India as " Sufoof-e-
Hazm". My dad has a very sensitive stomach too!
If you don't want to depend on your drug at all, you can try
Hydrotherapy and Aromatherapy. As much as possible, try to be happy
and take a vacation too! Relieve oyurself from all the tensions and
worries! Take a walk around a garden or a beach and adore Nature for
its beauty! You will notice significant changes in yourself naturally.
After all, THE KEY TO A HEALTHY LIFE IS A KEY TO HAPPINESS!!
Best of luck!!;)

What great advice Fatmah! I find orange oil great for lifting spirit but any smell that you find pleasant will encourage deeper breathing. Lemon balm tea is lovely as is chamomile. These are both mild and safe for children and pets. While all these will help, it is important to get to the cause of depression, for the individual. It may be something as simple as constipation, in which case, this would first be treated.
