Re: [Narcolepsy-Chat] Re: cycle and a ? about Provigil

Yes, Amber I have!  Back when we were going through the entire drug chain because the provigil decided to take a break on whether it was going to work or not.  Any way, when I was in my doctor's office during that time frame there was a drug (somebody, I don't know who he was) and an intern or something.  My doctor asked me if I minded if these two sat in with us on this particular visit.  I consented.  So, we are going through the check up deal - ya know? And me being a good patient went to sleep right there in the office - these other two guys were just floored.  My doctor said my name - thankfully the drugs have allowed me to come out of a nap just by someone saying my name - and I awoke somewhat (enough to know that they were talking about me to me) and I was asked what I was on and how much I remember telling them the information they wanted.  The one guy actually started laughing - I got just a touch bit upset and asked him what the hell he was finding so damned funny, I am not seeing it and would very much appreciate the enlightenment since it seemed that he was laughing at my expense.  Thru his giggling he told me that with all the substances I have running thru my veins that I should not be sleeping.  That just a single days dosages was enough enestisizors to have 5 full grown men stay awake for a week straight, and that I take this everyday, and was sitting in this office sleeping.
I still don't see what he was laughing about - isn't it nice to know that as a Narcoleptic that we can totally solidify our systems with speed (what ever form) and we would still go to sleep uncontrollably?  No, I don't think so.  Thankfully I am going back through that entire cycle thing and get to start again.  I am currently on 300mg of Provigil per day - When we did the entire chain of drugs thing I was up to 800mg.  I am glad that we did the reduction thing.  (If I remember correctly 600mg is the max out point.) and I am on 6gm/night.  As of right now I am doing the sleep on impulse thing. until I can find a way to semi-control this again. (yea right me control anything).
Well, that is all that I have for right now, so later.  Jean

Hi,
Yeah, my N seems to cycle no matter what drug, what amount, or how
much I sleep or practice "sleep hygiene".  It just doesn't seem to
matter, it is always there but the EDS and hypnogogic hallucinations
are everyday, somedays more than others. The sleep paralysis and
cataplexy are intermittent.

I ran into a drup rep today in the docs office who wanted to know
what I thought of Provigil and I told him that nothing...absolutely
nothing could keep me awake when I was having an episode and that for
the cost, Provigil was a waste of my money.  He said he had never
heard of anyone not responding to Provigil.  Am I alone here?  I
taken all kinds of stims and still fall asleep and still have all
those other symptoms.  I feel tired most all the time no matter what
and this guy was surprised.  Has anyone else had basically no long
term positive response to Provigil and CNS stimulants besides me?

Feeling depressed!
Amber
