Hi everyone!
I think this might be my first post. Anyway, about careers...I was
in the Navy when I developed narcolepsy (or at least it started being
noticable). The end result? I was discharged with major depressive
disorder and dissociative amnesia, later the Vets Admin. hospital at
Duke University diagnosed me with narcolepsy and depression, not dis.
amnesia. They never did really educate me about narcolepsy. I've
not been able to hold a job since due to cataplexy, sleepiness, and
most disabling of all for me...memory loss and automatic behaviour.
I can't remember doing things, or not doing them. I often can not
remember when I had conversations, if I had them, a day ago might
seem like a month ago and vice-versa. I don't consider it amnesia,
just another lovely symptom of narcolepsy. I do get depressed over
it, and it has been a real nightmare financially. My sleep doc
recommended trying to get social security disability but when I did
it was denied.
I guess what I'm getting at Gil, and anyone else with these problems
is that, well, no, you are not alone.
In Christ,
Amber
