Gil,
I can so much identify with your loss. I had to quit my counseling job due
to N. I went to college for 7 years and completed a 2 year internship to
obtain my degree. I worked several years at my local mental health center
then opened my own counseling office which included 3 other counselors. I
was an very good counselor - my business management duties weren't as
enjoyable but I ran a very successful business. I LOVED my career as a
counselor and much of my self image was tied to it. The N became disabling
in June of 2003 and I had to close my office. I was so bad I couldn't even
manage the business of closing the office. My wonderful collegue took care
of my clients referring them where they needed to go. I ended up in the
psych ward (with my clients lol) cuz I was so depressed. I still am so sad
about the loss of my carreer not to mention adjusting to a much decreased
income, but money is the least of my sadness. It is like a whole other world
but I am coping and adjusting well. Anyone need an online counselor or know
anyone who does? Or advice in running their own business. It would be
sooooooo wonderful to work again. Danita in Illinois

failure in these situations, if others shared them...
