Hello Everyone,
My name is Rochelle & I have a 16 year old son who's been sick since
August & has just recently had a sleep study. We are suppose to meet
with a Dr. & go over the results on Thursday. One of my concerns is
that I just found out yesterday that this particular doctor, who is
the only one certified for the area to read these tests, only tests
for sleep apnea, not in general or whether to rule out the various
sleep disorders &/or diagnose. Is this common? I've begun reading
through the archives & have come to realize that this is definitely
going to prove to be an up hill battle in more ways than one.
When my son, Phillip, first arrived for the sleep study the
technician asked him various questions. In particular my son
described, what he felt was dreaming just prior to falling asleep &
not being able to move. Things of this nature went on. As we walked
out of the room & to the set up computer monitor.... the technician
is showing me what supposedly showed that Phillip was already
dreaming, just that quick. He also felt that although I, personally
didn't understand some of the questions he had for Phillip, Phillip
most certainly did & he felt Phillip showed signs of Narcolepsy. Yet
in the morning, when asked Phillip did not feel that he'd fallen
asleep so easily. Of course, he's not realizing that he's falling
asleep mid-sentence either, at times.
All I know is that my 16 year old boy is not acting "healthy". He
needs naps constantly, at times is so disoriented &/or confused.
Doesn't recall a lot of things & look out if his "routine" is messed
up in any way. This will just totally throw him in a tailspin!
Of course, there are so many other symptoms that we are just now
realizing could or must have to do with whatever is going on with
him..... the list seems endless.
Any guidance, help, advice, suggestions.... are greatly appreciated!
