Jannette & Krissy,
Jannette, No you are wrong! Not all Narcoleptics can control there N with medication.
I am one of them. Diagnosed at age 15 now 29. I have been on every med out there for N. Nothing has worked for me. I went to U of M in Ann Arbor and saw one of the best doctors listed on the best doctors list of the United States. He tried very hard to help me but told me that out of 100 patients 50 of them wich is half (can not) be helped!
Krissy,
I have done research and talked with many moms with kids with Narcolepsy. I have a support group here where I live. I have found that a mother or father with N most likely will pass it on to the child. It's a 50/50 chance. One woman with 5 children- 4 have Narcolepsy and the 5th one does not. One woman with 3 kids- all 3 have it. So you take your chances as with anything in life. I was told by the doctor I saw that most likely my child will have it. I guess god spared that child- cause as bad as I wanted a baby, I'm infertile. It makes me sad... If you both really want this baby just be prepared that if one day she/he shows signs of N then you need to address it not ignore it and get the child some help... If you wish to further talk wiht me just e-mail me. :)

i think not enough is known about the disease to make a decision on
genetics, but since this is a disease that can be controlled with the
use of medication i would make the decision based on my heart and the
minute the kids arrive just make sure youre healthcare covers the
needed medications in case they develop it
