Before you get too concerned about genetics I would take a look at what your boyfriend is eating. I suspect he's eating a lot of refined & processed food and very little in the way of vegetables, fruits, whole grains etc. That is where the answers reside. I would take a hard look at that before he starts chowing down on a bunch of toxic medication which will only make him worse. Every diet I have seen from a narcoleptic has been simply horrible. There is no mystery here, but a lot of denial.
