Unlike most other states, until a month ago, no narcoleptic could receive Xyrem unless they had already been part of a study. That counted me out. But my husband spoke with the attorney that wrote the state legislation, and managed a mircle: now, willing physicians can prescribe Xyrem.
My willing physician is Dr. Haffar of Ripon Memorial Hospital, also practicing in Fond du Lac. He understands narcolepsy and is eager to help patients get a normal life.
I've been on Xyrem for only 2 1/2 weeks, but already it's been invaluable. Expensive, but definitely worth it, I think. No more ice cubes down the neck to stay awake driving.
