I want to remind everyone of the board meeting this Thursday night at the CLC
again.
This time, for sure, I have attached a copy of the minutes for our meeting but I
will have printed copies there since I sent to the wrong address and now you are
getting it so late.
See you there.

Board members,
Can we have a board meeting in one week on June 26th? 7 pm at the CLC
would work for me. Let me know if you can NOT come. The last item of
business for that meeting will be to set the date for the next board
meeting so we can get back on schedule so check you calendars for late
September.

The NAMI Lubbock Egroup exists to allow members to have intelligent, educational
and spirited discussions on any issues concerning primarily NAMI Lubbock,
especially Support, Education and Advocacy. The NAMI Lubbock Egroup is open to
only members of NAMI Lubbock who agree to conduct themselves in a professional
and courteous manner. This group is also governed by the terms of service of
Groups.Yahoo.com as listed on their website at
http://groups.yahoo.com/local/guidelines.html. While this announcement is not
intended to replace all the terms of service previously referred to, here are a
few of the highlights.
1. No personal attacks or threats will be tolerated. You can disagree with
anything or anyone and still be courteous.
2. Watch your language and choose your words carefully. We are a family
group.
3. You need to sign your name to every message. You are responsible for what
you post to this group. Your email address appears with your posts so there is
no such thing as an anonymous post here.
4. Do not write your message in all capitals. All caps is perceived as
SHOUTING and is harder to read. Give your Caps Lock key a rest.
5. Do not cross post messages from other egroups to this one unless they
relate to mental health issues in this area. This egroup is not designed to
replace or duplicate egroups sponsored by NAMI Texas. Members of this egroup
are encouraged to also be a member of the NAMI Texas general egroup and should
not cross-post messages from the two groups. Members do not wish to receive
duplicate messages from the two groups.

Boy, we had a great board training session on April 22!!
Unfortunately, none of you were there and I hardly remember it myself,
SO, I have rescheduled it for MAY 22 at 7 pm at a place to be
determined.
Please let me know if you can not attend. I would like all officers
and board members to be there.

I have tentatively scheduled a board training session for Thursday,
April 22 at 7 pm. The training will be by the lady who is the
executive director of the Lubbock Volunteer Center. She is Bernie
Bass's wife but I have gone blank on her first name. Board members,
PLEASE let me know if that is not a good time for you.

I have received this message and am moving it here for any possible help.
I am trying to locate half-way houses for the mentally ill in Texas.
My client is a 28 year-old female with schizoaffective disorder. Her
dedicated parents have accomplished all that they can with her at
home. Both work and are unable to be constant schedule monitors. We
believe she will be more cooperative in a non-family environment. She
has never been a danger to others. Due to appropriate medication
management, she is not a danger to herself. Her maladaptive behavior
was cutting. I am interested in all such resources in Texas because we
haven't decided whether it would be best to keep her near so she can
continue in our DBT program or better to move her out of the area away
from her current friends in Lake Jackson and Houston.

The school nurses conference on mental illness is this Saturday and I
would like to get some help with the table we will have to pass out
literature and promote NAMI. I forgot to ask where the conference is
but suspect it is at the LISD admin building. I will find out on
Wednesday and let everyone know. I don't see a need for us to get
there until 11:30 am when their lunch break starts. DeAnna and I are
doing a presentation on our families experience and a summary of the
different mental illnesses in children. We start at 12:30 pm and go
until a break at 1:45 pm. Dr. Rogers follows us and the conference
will end after a 30 minute summary session at 3:30 pm. I need folks
to hand out brochures and answer questions during lunch and the
breaks. I think our table will actually be in the main room so that
you can hear the presentations if you are interested.

Senate Passes Parity: House Action Needed
September 19, 2007
Last night, the U.S. Senate passed the Mental Health Parity Act of 2007 (S 558), legislation requiring health plans to cover treatment for mental illness on the same terms and conditions as all other illnesses. The bill now moves to the House, where efforts are underway to move it forward later this fall.
NAMI would like to express appreciation to the sponsors of S 558 Senators Pete Domenici (R-NM), Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA) and Mike Enzi (R-WY) for their persistence and leadership in bringing parity legislation forward. NAMI also thanks all our grassroots members whose efforts have made this victory possible. We now need to ask you help again, to push parity through the House.
Action Required
The parity bill now moves to the House for consideration: Contact your member of Congress and urge them to support immediate House passage of S 558 so that the bill can be sent to the President. You can also send a letter to your Senators thanking them for supporting mental illness parity. Contact your Senators and Representative now using NAMI's Legislative Action Center.
