Howdy folks,

This is your captain speaking.  Things are going great in NAMIWalk land!  Especially if you're a part of the Lubbock Legends team!  To date, we have reported $1,850 online!  However, I got another couple donations tonight which I believe puts us at $1,975!  We're almost to the $2,000 mark.  We're almost 1/3 to our goal!  We still have a month to go before the walk and we've not even tapped into our professional community yet.  Keep it up folks; I think we might just make it to our $6,000 goal!

Now, a couple of announcements to make:
  • Congrats goes out to Sheryl.  If you're on the NAMITX e-group, then you've already heard that she's raised the second highest amount of money on-line.  Who is the highest you might ask?  The infamous Pat Cramer - former NAMI Austin president.  Sheryl, you've made us all proud by raising a combined total of........$470 to date.  Keep up the good work!  She's also taken the lead on several other projects for NAMIWalks locally; we're lucky to have her with us.
  • On-line pages need to be up!  Please get them up soon.  Janet is the perfect example of what having an on-line page set-up will do.  Within just a couple of hours, Brian Shannon, the founding president on NAMI Lubbock, donated $50 to her on-line.  So Rex, Danette, David, DeAnna, and Jay.....five minutes is all it takes and if you don't want your picture on the site, you don't have to put one on there.  There are template pictures you can use (like on Marcy and Janet's pages) or you can use the NAMI Lubbock graphic.
  • Slight change in check donations and pledges.  As you receive checks, forward them on to me and I will give them to DeAnna.  I know I made a big deal about this in my last e-mail and now I'm changing my strory.  But I want to confirm with ya'll whether or not the checks, invoices, pledges, etc. are being reported as offline donations.  If you have an online page, add them to your offline donation section, unless you wish for it to be added to someone else's pot who does not have an online page.  Hopefully that doesn't sound too confusing.
  • Destination Dignity will be on Thursday, September 15th, from 5:30-7:00 pm at the Lubbock Courthouse Gazeebo.  NAMI Lubbock will be there promoting NAMIWalks.  We'll have a table set up with affiliate info and Walk info.  We need volunteers for the event.  I think I have a couple already, but we need all the help we can get.  If you're interested, let me know.  It should be a good time had by all.
  • MEDIA!!!!!  A big thank you for all the help MHMR is giving us with media assitance.  They will be donating a quarter page spot for NAMI Lubbock to advertise for NAMIWalks and for affiliate services in the month of September and are also working with Jane Prince Jones and other radio stations to get some spots on their shows.  Janet even shared with me today that they are even going as far as trying to sell the idea of having Karen McCay (or someone from NewsChannel 11) report live from Austin on NAMIWalks; I am an optimist, so I wish them the best of luck!  Jay, Marcy, Erin, Heather, Sheryl, and myself are all willing to do media spots if needed.  I'm sure my father will be as well.  (FYI, the great thing about all of us is that we all have different diagnosis'; among the six of us, you have schizophrenia, schizoaffective, cyclothymic, type II bi-polar, depression, ADHD and borderline personality disorders represented.)
  • September Dinner is still up in the air.  It will be held on Tuesday September 27th in place of the monthly meeting and will act as a launch pad celebration for NAMIWalks.  Janet is working on getting the dinner catered by a drug company, however if we prove to be unsuccessful with getting it sponsored, then we will probably charge $5 a plate for bar-b-que from Wylie's (we can get a heck of a deal from them through Erin knowing the owner).  Our goal, regardless, is to get 100 people to the dinner who are willing to listen about and contribute to the walk.
  • Finally, the professional sales teams, under the leadership of Marcy and Sheryl, will be out in full force within the next week or so.  They will be in contact with all of the local doctors and other related professionals.  If you know of anyone who would or even might be interested in contributing or pledging to the Walk, I know these ladies will be more than happy to go and speak with them in person.  Just go ahead and shoot me an e-mail, and I will be more than happy to forward the information along to them.
That's enough for today.  Have a good weekend and let's shatter $2,500 by this time next week!

And as always, if there's anything else I can do for you, let me know.

Expect recovery!
