Welcome to the New York City Nutrition Education Network!

Thank you for your interest in the New York City Nutrition Education Network, often referred to as NYCNEN. As part of a four-year grant from the U.S.Department of Agriculture (USDA), NYCNEN was launched in the fall of 1998 by the Community Food Resource Center (CFRC). NYCNEN's long term vision is to improve the nutritional health of the New York City food stamp/eligible population, to whom Network members provide services.

Our general "operating principles" are to:
* Share information & exchange ideas
* Stay reality, practice-based
* Coordinate programs, address common problems & identify potential
solutions
* Bridge barriers
* Bring policy & practice together

Members are what NYCNEN is about - they make things happen! Every 4 to 6 weeks members have the opportunity to network, improve their professional skills, learn what is happening around town, and participate in the working committees that are responsible for the structure of the network.

The Committees

* Steering Committee - envisions the Network as a whole to shape its
ongoing calendar and public meetings and to build its long-term
sustainability

* Nutrition Education and Outreach Committee - addresses nutrition
education issues applicable to the food stamp eligible population

* Public Policy Committee - provides the Network with a forum for
discussion and decision-making on policy issues vital to the work of
NYC's food and nutrition community

* Member Value Committee - retains and recruits members for the
continuation of a strong, dynamic, and vibrant group of NYC Nutrition
Educators

* Dot.Com Committee - maximizes information sharing and communication
among members through web-based resources.
