Sorry you have to put up with my brother
Jeff at work. Good thing for you that you won’t have to tolerate him too
much longer. I will get my profile updated. I still need to come-out and see
what you guys are about. I don’t mean to be a tag-along slacker. I will
try to make your next meeting event.

I would like to thank everyone for joining so far. I
am asking that
everyone go in & edit your profile with your full name so we have no
strangers to the site.
This site has been working out well so far & I request that all team
leaders post their training on the calandar feature under the site to
keep everyone up to date on available training. This will also keep
special operations teams from holding training on the same nights to
allow all team members to be able to attend.
There are numerous open houses, public safety displays &
demonstations in the upcoming months. I hope that our special
operations group actively participates.
The task force meetings have been making progress & will have the
meeting minutes posted on the site in the near future. Once again we
would like to welcome you the site & please use it as a communication
tool for our special operations teams.
If anyone is having trouble navigating through the site please
contact me & I will get you through it. Also keep the photos's
coming with special operations activity. These photo's of incidents
& training will help us in the future to secure funding clerification.

WELLINGTON -- Why did Allan "Buz" Anderson die?
The 32 members of the Wellington Fire Department were searching for the answer in seclusion Thursday night while trying to deal with the emotional trauma and grief of losing one of their own earlier in the day.
The 47-year-old Anderson, a veteran swift water rescue technician and diver, died Thursday afternoon while trying to rescue two teenagers clinging to a tree in the swollen waters of a tributary of the Black River, about a half mile north on Pitts Road.
Terry Mazzone of the Lorain-Medina Rural Electric Cooperative stood in for his friend Chief Robert Walker at a news conference Thursday night to talk about the day's events.
"The chief and the whole team are too upset to be here tonight," Mazzone said. "They are together, talking about
the events of the day, going over what happened, why it happened; they're grieving and lending each other emotional support."
What the firefighters do know at this point is that Anderson entered the water twice in an attempt to reach the stranded teens and something went terribly wrong on his second attempt.
Anderson first entered the water from an inflatable boat brought in by the Wellington department. He secured a lifeline, but the current proved too swift for the lightweight boat and it, along with Anderson, was brought out of the water.
The department called the Findley State Park, which brought a powerboat to the swollen stream and eventually rescued the teens. But it was too late for Anderson.
Anderson had entered the water a second time, again with a safety line, but disappeared under the water. He emerged briefly before slipping under a second time.
"Water conditions rapidly deteriorated and h
e was overcome by the water's current," Mazzone said. "At that point, he was pulled to shore by department personnel using his attached safety line."
The exact cause of Anderson's death has yet to be determined. "We're awaiting a coroner's report," Mazzone said.
The teens were in the water for 35 minutes before being rescued by the Findley State Park boat. Mazzone said he didn't know how long Anderson was in the water before he was pulled out.
Firefighters from the area gathered at the firehouse in Wellington on Thursday night to offer their condolences and support.
Volunteers from the Oberlin Fire District remained at the Wellington station, ready to respond to any calls in place of their Wellington comrades.
"They'll be here for as long as they're needed. This has been a bad day for everybody," said Elyria Assistant Fire Chief Robert Dempsey, who was among firefighters from around the area at the Wellingto
n station Thursday night.
Mazzone said Anderson and his wife, Julia, had four children. He did not know their ages or where Anderson was employed.
"Details are still sketchy. I'm sorry I don't know a lot myself at this point. Everyone is still very upset," Mazzone said.
Anderson had been a swift water rescue technician and rescue diver with the Wellington department for four years, but had about 15 years of experience, Mazzone said.
Anderson's death was the first fatality for the small volunteer department in 30 years and only the third in its 125 year history, Mazzone said.
"In fact," he said, "we were planning to celebrate the department's history next month. I don't think we will now."
Matt I would like to go to this class. Please sign me up. Thank you Dan Brown

Experts forecast another active Atlantic hurricane season
Apr 04 11:03 AM US/Eastern
Email this story
Forecasters warned that the upcoming Atlantic cyclonic season would
again be highly active, with a total of 17 tropical storms, including
nine hurricanes, likely to form.
Of those hurricanes, five should be intense, meaning they will reach
or exceed Category 3 on the five-level Saffir-Simpson hurricane
intensity scale, said leading experts William Gray and Philip
Klotzbach of Colorado State University.
While the numbers are above the historical average, they remain below
last year's record of 26 tropical storms and 14 hurricanes, seven of
them intense.
The study said there was a 98 percent chance of a hurricane making
landfall in the United States, with an 88 percent likelihood of a
Category 1 or 2 striking land and an 81 percent chance of a Category
3, 4 or 5 slamming ashore.
But Gray said it was unlikely the United States would be as hard hit
as it has been in the past two years -- each of which saw four major
hurricanes slam ashore.
"Even though we expect to see the current active period of Atlantic
major hurricane activity to continue for another 15 to 20 years, it
is statistically unlikely that the coming 2006 and 2007 hurricane
seasons, or the seasons that follow, will have the number of major
hurricane US landfalls as we have seen in 2004-2005."
Experts believe the latest record hurricane season was part of a
cycle where periods of relative calm alternate with decades of
intense activity.
Some scientists also believe global warming plays a crucial role by
further increasing the temperature of warm ocean waters that provide
fuel to the hurricanes.
But the Colorado State University study played down the theory.
"No credible observational evidence is available or likely will be
available in the next few decades which will directly associate
global surface temperature change to changes in global frequency and
intensity," it said.
The hurricane season officially runs from June 1 to November 30.
I would love to come to this class but, I got to work (yuck!)
Keep me in mind for the next class.
Thanks
Michele
