Would anyone like to go to this event?  Maybe we could have a group go up and report back at the conference a few weeks later.  Think about it and let me know.  Best to all.   Jim

Faces & Voices of Recovery
2005 Rising! Recovery in Action Summit
September 6-8, 2005

We invite you to join us at the Faces & Voices of Recovery 2005 Rising! Recovery in Action Summit from September 6-8 in Washington, DC. To register and for scholarship information, go to our web site at www.facesandvoicesofrecovery.org today! The deadline for scholarship applications is Friday, July 15.

Raise your voice in the nation’s capitol and experience being part of building our national movement.

  • Connect and strategize with other recovery advocates
  • Find out how the recovery community is organizing to change public attitudes and policies
  • Take home new skills and tools that you can use in your community
  • Help build the growing network of grassroots recovery community organizations and recovery advocates
  • Put your advocacy into practice and be inspired to take the next steps

Together we will continue to build a national, unified voice that is heard in Washington and around the country! Join with other people in recovery, their family member, friends and allies as we take the next steps in our campaign to end discrimination, broaden social understanding and achieve a just response to addiction as a public health crisis.

In addition to an exciting, hands-on strategic planning and skills building day on September 7 and other activities that will build our movement from the ground up, we will be kicking off Recovery Month 2005 at a Washington Nationals baseball game and sponsoring a Recovery Month luncheon on Capitol Hill on September 8. Winning Recovery Advocacy Strategies & Tactics

I call on you today to be the national voice for recovery. Be a community of one, unified, to be a powerful voice in our nation’s capital and in the states.
-- The late Senator Paul Wellstone at Faces & Voices of Recovery’s 2001 Summit.

Successful local campaigns build our national recovery advocacy movement and strengthen recovery community organizations. Wellstone Action (www.wellstoneaction.org) takes you through the steps of planning a campaign, getting out your message, and building alliances to mobilize greater support for recovery. There will be lots of fun “hands-on” practice like actually staging a press conference and developing a public service television ad. You will work in small teams in this action-oriented strategic planning and skill building session, working on real issues. At the end of this empowering day, you will be able to take these strategies home and immediately apply them in your community.
