Things are starting to pick up. I spoke with my husband who is
currently in Iraq and he said when he gets back next spring he will
put on a wilderness rescue training seminar here in Michigan. I am
thinking we will hold it at a central camping area in Michigan.
We will concentrate on safety issues with wilderness medicine for
the first responder and he can also recertify anyone who needs to
get recertified or certified in CPR! He is a licensed Instructor in
Michigan for EMS training and CPR instruction. CPR is the only
certification he can provide for those who are not MFR, EMT, or
Medic trained.

We will be instructing on how to stablize a patient in a wilderness
environment, providing a safe extrication (removing out of woods).
Different things you can use in the woods to provide stabilization
of extremities that may be fractured. How to staunch serious
bleeding, how to treat snake bites, provide c-spine precautions
(properly holding a neck), etc.

There is a wonderful book you can buy at Amazon.com that is called
Wilderness medicine. It is geared towards those who do not have a
medical certification.

I know this group says National Association of EMS equestrians, even
though you may not be certified in EMS, we will teach you the basics
to provide practical basic first aid in a wilderness environment.
Hopefully touching on subjects you haven't worked on before.

If anyone has any suggestions, any good resources to provide I would
appreciate if you submit them to the group. Also feel free to
upload pictures and post links to great sites you think everyone may
enjoy!

Stay safe and again, welcome!

Linda
