Description
The Myotonic Dystrophy Toronto support group was established in November 2006 to connect patients and their families in the Greater Toronto and surrounding areas of Southern Ontario with one another to share information, resources and mutual support. Our mandate is patient education, development of a social support network and patient advocacy.
Families with any form of myotonic dystrophy are invited to join. This includes myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1, Steinharts), myotonic dystrophy type 2 (DM2, PROMM or Rickers) and families of children with the congenital form. Patients with clinical symptoms of DM who are suspected of having an alternate 3rd form (as yet unidentified) are also welcome to join.
The website is NOT an active one for online discussions, and is primarily intended to facilitate communication regarding live meetings for our regional group meetings which take place in various places in Southern Ontario (Scarborough, Burlington & Hamilton).
To contact us, please leave a voice mail at our message centre:(416)765-2001 or email us at myotonicdystrophy2@yahoo.com.
Participants of this forum must note that we are not medical professionals. Ideas and discussion in our group or on the internet site are intended to be educational in nature. All members are urged to seek the advice of a trusted medical provider for diagnosis and management of these diseases. It is suggested adults seek a neurologist who specializes in adult neuromuscular disorders.
