Subject: Who do you trust?
Otis> Dear Jan,
Otis> I have no idea who you are. You have no identification. Why should I
trust you?
Jan> That's not the issue Otis, you don't have to trust me, neither I trust
you.
Jan> As always Otis, you are changing the subject if the ground under your feet
is getting to hot (Dutch expression) and trying to escape from giving real
answers or reactions on questions/remarks others make at you, most people (the
majority) call this behavior cowardly.
Jan> My "first opinion" is you indeed are a coward Otis, the "second opinion" I
have about you is you are a quackery bullet-head.
Jan (normally Dutch spoken)
Jan> PS, don't address with "dear" simply "Jan" will do for me if its
concerning a message by you Otis.
============
Dear Jan,
Jan> That's not the issue Otis, you don't have to trust me, neither
I trust you.
Otis> Knowing the person, and his intent and qualities are essential
for engineering and science. Knowing how to run a scientific
experiment yourself, and trusting your own measurements -- is the
essence of science.
Otis> But, for instance, I know Stirling Colgate as a highly qulified person
who I trust. So when he described HIS experience will applying a preventive
plus to himself, I have little reason to doubt his successful results.

Otis> But, Jan, I don't trust you.
Otis> But I do trust you in this sense. If I go into your office, I
expect you will check my retina for macular degeneration, RP, and many other
organic failure. In fact, I always recommend that anyone who wishes to work on
Bates/Prentice PREVENTIVE methods ALWAYS make
certain that they have had this check.
Otis> Then, with their own personal competence, they can be supported
by Steve Leung and other second-opinion (plus-preventive)
optometrists.
Otis> They have nothing to lose from learing how to PREVENT.
Otis> Given you strong hostility towards plus-prevention, you are only obliged
to provide the "Links", to the parents and child, and give them a month or so to
review these issues (of stair-case myopia).
Otis> Then, if they choose a strong minus lens for their child, and he gets
stair-case myopia from it, they would have no reason to complain about that
result.
Otis> A true professional WOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM PROVIDING THAT
INFORMATION. The real and true responsibliity must rest with the
parents to make that choice for the child. If the person is more
mature (i.e., a student entering a four year college (at 20/40 to
20/50) with good potential to clear his Snellen), then he could make
that choice himself -- as Dr. Stirling Colgate did it.
Plus-prevention best,
Otis
