Subject: Six-figure income
I graduated in 1983, started a practice, sold it, started another one
and sold it, and through it all, I only worked fulltime (35 hours a
week) for five years. The remaining years I was working less. Still I
was able to pull in nearly 200k a year. In 2000 I retired with a net
worth in the 7 figures. I am 49 years old now, and my wife has never
worked outside the home (she was a stay-at-home mom). What are you
all... nuts? Whinners? Complainers? Spoilded? Clueless? Incompetent
and need to teach? Which is it? I really don't get it. I mean...what's
the deal here? You're disappointed that you didn't make better money,
so you blame the profession? Also, as an aside...what's with all the
horrendous grammar in your postings? Optometry is the best profession
I know of. If you are smart, personable, saavy with managing a
business (which is only common sense), you have nothing to worry
about. I suspect many of you just don't have what it takes.
Instead of blaming a profession which has nearly 100% job satisfaction
to the majority, perhaps you should look at why you have failed: why
you weren't better informed in your profession choice, why you seem to
think it sucks when overwhelmingly OD's love their career, why you are
doing poorly at it, why you don't change your mode of practice,
location, town, etc. You are likely using Optomety as a scapegoat for
your own failings! Think about it.
