Achieving The State Of Mindfulness   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #462 of 592 |
The aim of meditation is rejuvenation and recuperation. And the highest point
before reaping these benefits is the state of mindfulness. This is not the same
as sleep but the effects of meditation and mindfulness on the body is about the
same. The following are but some of the characteristics of the state itself and
its effects.
1) Clarity of mind
Once reaching the state of mindfulness, there is acuity as to the on-goings in
one's self. This is called the clarity of mind state allows for the brain and
the spirit to take stock of its current state and be able to undertake the
necessary actions to help itself get better. This clarity is the body's way to
rejuvenate and recuperate.
2) Awareness of autonomic functions
This awareness of self goes beyond the mind state. In this state of mindfulness,
even autonomic functions are observable and can be controlled. The awareness
reaches even a point that the individual sees the self as a third person. This
awareness thus allows the body to lower its functions to make it "sleep" and
thus help to make it recover from the everyday stress of the self.
3) Openness to suggestion
When in this state of mindfulness, the mind is open and relaxed and with this
openness comes the predisposition to suggestion. That is why the body is not the
only part of the person that is relaxed, but the mind as well. The openness
makes the brain relax and return to sleep. This is not the same as ordinary
sleep since in ordinary sleep the mind is awake. The mind is relaxed and asleep
when in a meditative state.
