The Montgomery County Action for Healthy Kids is a coalition of parents, professionals and community members who believe that nutrition education, quality, daily physical activity, and a well-balanced, healthy diet promote academic achievement as well as lifelong health and wellness. Currently, 16% of our nation's children are overweight; We are concerned with the growing incidence of overweight and with the increased rate of high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol and joint problems in our children. We are convinced that public schools must play a vital role in breaking the cycle of childhood overweight and in fostering healthy lifestyles for students, teachers, staff, administrators and parents, alike. We also believe that parents are empowered to play a vital role in schools and communities to promote healthy lifestyles!
Please review our vision and mission and the informative links we have included on our website to assist you in understanding wellness policies and child nutrition and physical activity in the public schools. We invite you to join us in helping our children meet their potential as healthy, active, fit and happy young people. Your insights and opinions as parents, teachers and members of the Montgomery County community are essential. We hope that you will join us at our next meeting to be posted on our website at www.freewebs.com/mcchs.
