Hello, my name is Jenny. I am in a bad situation and need some help. I am
currently undergoing chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer. Things have taken a
turn for the worse. My husband lost his job as of last Friday. We are losing
our house due to back taxes (school and property taxes) not being paid
because of uncovered medical bills.
I will be moving to live at MD Anderson Hospital, and my husband and 2 1/2
year-old daughter will be moving with me to stay in a facility the hospital
offers. I am considered terminally ill as the cancer was not detected early.
I am having a hard time finding a new permanent home for my dog Spot (female
Blue Heeler mix, 30 lbs., 3 years old, spayed). My family lives in
apartments and can't take her. The one relative who lives in a house can't
take her because their child is allergic to dog dander. Spot has been a hard
dog to place. I don't trust her around children. She has been tortured by
the next door neighbor's children. She has been poked with sticks, had rocks
thrown at her, been sprayed with water etc. My little girl knows not to
touch her except under our supervision, when she gently pets Spot on the
head. Spot really loves adults and is very well behaved; she doesn't jump on
people, stays off furniture, is very calm, loves to play fetch, loves water,
is housetrained (indoor/outdoor) and a graduate of Petsmart's dog training.
We have had her since we found her at the age of five weeks. As for other
dogs, she got along just fine with Tyson, a six year-old black Lab male (now
placed), but didn't get along with a 16 year-old female. I would probably
say she would have to be an only pet with no children in the household. We
used a baby gate on one side of our house to keep Spot and our daughter
separated.
I need help or advice of any kind. I am going to have to put her down if I
cannot find her a home. I don't want to give her to the pound, where she
wouldn't stand a chance. I would rather be there with her when she goes to
sleep for the final time. I am so upset about this. I love her very much,
as she is my baby.
I would appreciate any help I can get. Please contact me if you can help me.
Photos of Spot are available on request.
