The Imperial Court of Houston, Inc. otherwise known as ICOH - The Space City Empire recently announced the creation of the Barry Petree Community Commitment Award.
The founding members of the organization who have served in similar positions within the community were named into the "College of Monarchs" as Mercury Emperors and Empresses and will make a proclamation and award a lifetime title at this year's ball.
Although each proclamation will not be publicly announced until that evening, Jerel McNeil, Mercury Emperor XIII, recently made the proclamation to create the Barry Petree Community Commitment Award and because of it's structure was required to announce it to the community prior to the ball.
• The nominations for the Award are open to the community.
• Any member of the Houston community is eligible to be nominated.
"Barry Petree was not only a good friend, but a role model to me and many others within this community," stated McNeil. "He touched so many aspects of the Houston GLBT community and beyond. I wanted this award to recognize someone who has made a commitment to the Houston community, giving above and beyond."
Nominations will be taken until July 1. The board of directors and college of monarchs will narrow the nominations to five and place them on the August ballot for Apollo Emperor and Gemini Empress. Therefore, the community will not only be voting on the monarchs but will vote on the award recipient as well. Even though the winners of Apollo and Gemini will be announced at P&P Ball in late August, the winner of the Barry Petree Community Commitment Award will not be announced until the Enthronement Ball in October.
Nominations can be sent to Jerel at JMcNeil228@... (Please send your reason why the individual should be nominated.)
