Thought that I might add a few comments about having to sell Deb-U-Not tickets.
All Louis is trying to do is to get ALL ALL ALL members of MCAF to help with the fundraising efforts of the organization. If all members of the organization do not attempt to sell the tickets, it comes down to a few people having to sell all the tickets to make the event a success.
EXAMPLE - how many people end up selling all the ads for the program??? I admit I have not done my share in this area either and it is my responsibility as a member to do my share. I have many contacts and it should and would not be hard for me to actually sell more ads, but do I? No, I normally leave it to the responsibility of the few others in the organization. So I think we need to look at what Louis is trying to get to happen. A little prodding to some of our members (such as myself) to help out and do more is not such a bad thing. There is more to being in this organization than showing up on the big stage in September and enjoying our moment of fame. We need to remember what the organization's purpose is. We say "Together We Can Make A Difference", and that means, "Together We Can Make A Difference".... not a few people trying to do all that is necessary to obtain our goals.
Was I thrilled when I opened the envelope and saw the 5 tickets I needed to sell? I think not... but after thinking about it for a few minutes, I realized that I need to do my part as well. If we explain the purpose and the goals of the organization to our friends, it should not be a problem to get a $10.00 donation, even if they don't want to come to the Deb Ball..... If they have a problem giving a $10.00 donation to such a worthy cause, then I might suggest NEW friends.
After all, what kind of an example are we setting as Veteran members to the New Debs, if we are not willing to support their Deb U Not Ball, after all the fundraising efforts that they are undertaking.
