Subject: electronic billing

Send Email Send Email

Good morning,

Maybe somebody can clue me about the protocol for electronic billing, or
direct me to a website that explains it. And other stuff like that there.

My questions:

When intermediaries are no longer needed, will each carrier have an
email address to which electronic bills are submitted? If so, how will I
find out the email address to send claims to, for each carrier?

Is an electronic bill just a text file with delimiters for each item? If
so, how do I learn the format?

Submissions must be encrypted. Will normal public key encryption be used
-- so, for instance, my email software, which already public key
encryption, will do the trick? If so, how will I get the carrier's
encryption key, and will I send them mine?

Would I send the bill as a message, or as an attachment? (I don't know
if attachments get encrypted along with messages. Never tried it.)

If the answer is "none of the above," there must be a website that
explains the protocol in simple English. Where is it?

Will third parties be writing software that converts delimited text
files -- representing a claim -- to the proper format and sends it using
the proper protocol? If so, who?

When the planned claim submission protocol is fully operational, will it
an interactive thing, so I can get an immediate response, like to
confirm eligibility and so on? Would that be by encrypted email, too, or
is the whole protocol something specialized for this purpose, something
not much like email?

I suppose many carriers will also provide web interfaces, but I'll be
damned if I'm going to laboriously type each claim into a form on a web
page.

Are there plans for providers to submit claims more simply? Like sliding
the patient's health insurance ID card thru a card reader, enter the
procedure code and diagnosis on a keypad, and everything else happens
trasparently? If so, is this over the horizon, or on the way prettty
soon? Once again, a URL for a non-technical website that explains some
of this would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Tim Miller

Hello Lynn,

I just read your post and although I do not take allot of action within this group, I am a member of numerous other organizations. I have owned and operated a Full Practice Accounts facility since 1998. I have 27 clients. I have also taught at the University Of Houston in Medical Billing and Coding. I consult with allot of physicians in numerous specialties. We work with clients within Texas but also those who practice outside of Texas. We also offer terminal services to all of our clients. This allows them to dial into our server 24/7 to give the physician the ability to view all data in our system. If I can help in anyway please feel free to contact me (281) 648-8139.

Hi Lynn and Heather,
My experience is in Accounting. I majored in Nursing in college though which peaked my interest in medical billing. I obtained my certification at a school in Garland Texas. I have my office set up to begin working in medical billing but I have not found the funding to obtain the software needed. I am working on doing that now. The software that was used in school was Medisoft Advanced.

I wanted to start this business because I wanted to spend more time with my husband and our daughter. I would be interested in speaking with you about the doctor that needs the outsourcing. My number is 972-418-2021 and of course you may reach me here at this email.

I look forward to talking with you soon.

Hi Lynn,
I would love to tell you more about myself. I went to school here in Texas and became Nationally Certified in Medical Billing and Coding. I have been researching some funding for the software that is needed for this business. The school I attended used Medisoft Advanced so I am familar with this. I would love to start this business as soon as I possibly can. I enjoyed learning about billing.

I moved here with my husband 2 years ago and now we have a 1 year old daughter that is the motivation for me wanting to work at home so desparately. I majored in Nursing in college and have an accounting background. I feel that I will do well in this business. I am a very persistent in achieving my goals. I feel that my personality and experiece along with my skills will benefit the doctors.

Please contact me so we can discuss going forward with gaining the doctor's business.
My number is 972-418-2021 and I look forward to speaking with you.

Thank you in advance,
Cynthia Campbell

In addition to the AAPC website, try HRAI.com. They have a coding
bootcamp for CPC in different cities. After the course, they also
administer the CPC exam. The instructor from the class I took in 2002
was very, very knowledgeable.

Hello All,

A chiropractor wanted to know how much a billing service would cost
him. He needs to know the formula for compensation / percentage on the
following:
- Normal billing (Specify Billed or Collected)

- Rejections (less than 6 months)

- Collections (1 - 7 years)

He was wondering:

- Is it normally a flat percentage for all claims or would you charge
more for collections?

Would any one have a "blank" billing / collections contract that they
could share? If there are any billing services out there; please leave
your telephone number.

Thanks,
Pete

I have to send electronic claims to MCA for pts with CRF(primary
diagnosis 585)and anemia(secondary). Before I used CPT codes Q9920-
Q9940 for different HTC level. Now I have to report EPO injections
using Q0136 only. Should I send paper claims only and put HTC level
in box 19? MCA Policy INJ-23 was not clear. If somebody can help me.
