I'm on my 12th day of the Master Cleanser. This'll probably be my
last day.
From observing my stools, I think my GI tract is completely cleansed.
I know a lot of cleansing took place, because I could see the
results.
I did the salt water flush, as recommended by Peter Glickman. The
other reason why I think my cleanse has been completed has to do
with the transit time before elimination of the salt water begins to
happen. The first day it took nearly two hours. Today it only took
30 minutes. I assume the explanation for this is that my intestines
were clogged to begin with, and now they aren't, which allows the
water to pass through more quickly.
I also did the herbal laxative tea twice a day. Midway into the
cleanse I started drinking a cup of mint tea to cleanse my breath.
I found that drinking the tea right before bedtime caused me a
problem with having to get up at night to pee. I rearranged my
schedule to make my last liquid intake no later than 9 PM. This
helped.
I lost about 7 pounds. I'm 6'2" and weighed 187 pounds at the
start. I think this is probably normal weight loss for someone my
height and weight.
I took size measurements before starting the cleanse, and will take
them again tommorow when it's officially over, except for the
refeeding period. I've already checked my waist and it's gone from
39" to 38". In the mirror I look noticably thinner.
My major concern is whether a "diet" like this results in burning
lean muscle tissue or not. I understand why a low carb diet like
Atkins, or water only fasting is "protein sparing". But the lemonade
diet is 98% carb, 1% protein, and 1% fat, and only 105 calories per
10 oz glass (I only drank 6 glasses per day). I didn't have any
food cravings at all which is typical of someone "in ketosis", but
surely this diet doesn't lead to ketosis. I guess an extemely low
intake of both fat and sodium, as this diet is, may also result in
no food cravings.
Has anyone seen any research or scientific explanations on why a
diet like this shouldn't result in lean body mass being burned to
supply sufficient glucose to the brain?
All in all, the cleanse was quite pleasant, without even a hint of
a "healing crisis". I should mention that I've been eating
vegetarian, 75% raw since 12/2005 and did a 15 day water only fast
last fall, followed by fasting one day per week since then. So
perhaps I'm not as toxic as I would've been without doing those
things beforehand.
Also, until now I was definitely biased toward water only fasting
because it made sense to me. Now, having done both, I wonder how
much bowel cleansing the fasting does, since I had no BM's while I
was doing the water only fast. I started out doing the cleanse as a
prep for being able to do another extended water only fast, without
medical supervision. Now I think I'm going to plan to do each type
at least once a year, and continue with my weekly water only fasts.
I may try to get to 100% raw before the year's over.
