Hi Friends,
Talked to Richard a few minutes ago. He sounds good and is doing a lot
better. He has been out a couple of times but still feels tired.
He has been reading the LS and promised to try to post something in
the next few days.
So keep that healing energy flowing his way - and don't forget the
rest of the family - I think they could all use some energy....

Hi all,
Just got an email from Joe that Richard is home and doing well.
Will try calling him in a couple of days and will let everyone know
how he is doing then...
Just change the geographic target of the prayers and well-wishes by a
few miles... :-)
bear
:-) will do...

Hi Friends,
I just spoke with Richard - he is doing fine. He has been in the
hospital for the last few days with endocarditis. He expects to go
home in the next day or two and will get around to communicating as
soon as he can - but in the meantime - if you want to keep up to date
I agreed to serve as an intermediary to reduce the number of queries
to him and Joe during the next few days.
In the meantime prayers, well-wishes, healing energy and light
directed to him and his family will be appreciated.
I'll keep you posted if I hear anything new - but he really does sound
good and I had last talked to him the day this all started - he sounds
much better now.

Colleagues, I do not think we are served well by thinking of grand theories as
philosophies. I prefer to think of the structure of nursing knowledge as one
metaparadigm, mulitiple philosophies, multiple conceptual models, multiple grand
theories, multiple middle-range theories, and multiple empirical indicators. See
my book (Fawcett, J. (2005). Contemporary nursing knowledge: Analysis and
evaluation of nursing models and theories (2nd ed.). Philadelphia: F.A. Davis)
for the definition of each element of the structure. Jacqui

Have you seen this, or am I late getting to it and everyone else is tired of
it? I think that Jef Raskin is probably epitomizing a paraphrase or analog
of Heisenberg's statement that "We have to remember that what we observe is
not nature in itself, but nature exposed to our method of
questioning"Heisenberg
This may open up the problematic usage of "theory" in nursing...I work from
the Maritain idea of three kinds of theory: general or grand; middle range;
and practice. And I also have begun to adopt June Kukuchi's way of
referring to these general theories of nursing, she proposes calling them
philosophical frameworks, which works for me. I think that Raskin, like
many who hold that there is one philosophy of science, rather than at least
two philosophies of science (natural and human), is applying a concept of
theory that doesn't fit the idea of grand or general theory, so that in
effect, he seems to be criticizing apples for not being oranges.

Bear, this is beautiful, and arrived at a time I am strongly feeling
the very recent loss of my mother. It describes how I was, and how
others were, and brings me solace--also reminding me of being part of a
privileged, special group who communicate way below and beyond the
surface. I plan to print it out, and enclose it with some of the thank
you letters I am still trying to write to the nursing home and hospital
staffs, Blessings, Dottie

Found this on a web site while surfing - good food for thought here, i
think. I have removed some info and slightly (very slightly) altered
other info - just to make it interesting...
THE CARETAKERS
We are there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week: We strive to make their
days happy and comfortable. We are the ONE on ONE caregiver in their
life. We love our patients having the most contact with them outside
of their family members. Although we cannot give them the Care they
TRULY deserve, we watch out for them as best we can.
OUR PRIORITY
It is the only priority we should have. The Angels walk with us and
with our residents, and God gives us the strength to help these
people. We lift them, we cradle them we need the strength in our
loving arms to keep them safe from falls and pain
One of the things you have to have in an environment of helping the
disabled and the elderly, is a "Special" kind of love and
understanding. These special people take us into their heart also:
they and their families put their trust in us daily they depend on us
to be there for them and with them to make SURE the care is given we
are responsible for ROM (Range of Motion), feeding, cleaning,
showering, giving out snacks, transferring them safely, dressing,
doing personal care, walking with them, talking to them and MUCH MORE.
(if time allows) .What better way to communicate a wonderful
relationship? **Taking Time to Deliver CARE **
God gives us this special feature, and our endurance comes from
another power within. Our Hearts. Not our Profits. We don't profit by
$$. We Profit knowing our patient is comfortable, clean and fed. We
are Compassionate
Our Prayer
As I enter into my place of calling
I ask for strength as I help those in needing
Hide my tears for the sick and aging
and let my smile be the hope they're seeking.
Guide my hands as they do for them
The things they cannot do, and we take for granted
Allow my eyes to see those things
that make my stay with them a blessing
Provide the words I need to speak
To let them know I love them so.
As I do my work throughout the day
It is for my patients that I stay,
and for my patients that I pray

Dear Tracy:
I too send prayers and condolences. Please realize we all understand when

I apologize for my tardiness. My dad died and "the big tough ED nurse" has

Hi
Cold somebody help this person please who sent the follwing email to me. I am

Hi
My name is Jennifer Meehan and I am a graduate nursing student at Arizona
State University. I took a nursing theory class with Dr. Nelma Shearer and
acquired a greater appreciation for Martha Rogers’ work and vision. From the
suggestion of Dr. Shearer, I applied for membership into the Society of
Rogerian Scholars. However, I haven’t had any communication or receipt of my
membership inquiry? Can you please let me know if my application was
received? I included the membership fee and monies for the book. I am very
interested and excited to be a member.
I thank-you for your help.

Hi all,
Some sad news to pass on. Alison R's mother died last Sunday. Wanted
to ask everyone to keep her, her family, and her mother in your hearts
and prayers and send healing light and energy to GA on her and her
family's behalf.

By the way - the presentation was done by
Rozzano C. Locsin from FAU....
and the link seems to open fine with the correction I made.

Hi all,
Was surfing around and found a neat powerpoint presentation that
brings to mind the issue of how homosapiens is evolving -
transhumanism, cyborgs...
www.hlth.qut.edu.au/nrs/inc2003/post/ppts/Locsin.ppt
I had some trouble getting it - i think they had a space
before "post" in the above link - if you can't get it let me know...

I few posts back I identified that Blackwells allow authors to post pdf's on
their own internet pages; I just stumbled into Haworth Publishers publication
agreements and they say the same, authors are allowed to freely distribute
pdf's and post on websites and etc. Seems like it might be, or become, common
practice?
