Hi All,
I think that posting links is great. Links to personal/professional homepages is
fine with me as long as it isn't blatant commercialism. That means that someone
who includes aromatherapy is probably good to go, at least for me, if they are
sharing their webpage because they believe it has (and assuming it does have)
content that makes it intuitively clear that it connects to Martha, her work, or
the work of SRS members and friends... I have a pretty broad notion of what
connects - because i think everything is connected...
On the other hand, a link to a post for sex aids, growth stimulants for various
body parts, etc is probably going to get deleted by me or anyone else with the
privilege of doing that because it seems at best tangentially related to Martha,
her work, or the work of SRS members and friends... Not to say it can't be
justified, but barring an effort to justify it, i wouldn't be inclined to leave
it on the LS if only for efficiency...
That said, i think there are some simple rules to increase the likelihood that
people will actually click on a link or go to the trouble to copy and paste it:
To increase traffic to your homepage or to encourage traffic to specific
conferences, or other materials I'd suggest that posters be clear about what it
is they are doing, why the reader would care, and make sure that the link is
specific, given the stated purpose in the email - either to a specific
conference homepage or to your own personal/professional homepage, or a site of
an interesting story, or just something you thought was fun like the links i
gave a long time ago to the Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research lab.
:-)
