RE: [Martha_E_Rogers] PhD Education Question

Tracy, I drive a total of 5 hours round trip to Texas, to Texas Woman's
University in Denton, Texas, in order to get my PhD in nursing. The job
market for nursing education prefers the PhD in nursing to the EdD or PhD
in education, by far. Are you considering driving to TWU? There are
several of us that do, and I can give you some pointers and time saving
tips! The TWU program in nursing is 50% online, so most folks only have to
make the trip once a month. It is well worth getting a quality education!
And it is much cheaper than going 100% online. There is the option for us
OK folks to get instate tuition in Texas, since we don't have a PhD program
in nursing in OK. Email me at valerie@... and I can give you more
info! I say, go for the PhD in nursing, with at least a part of it in
contact with other people. The face to face interaction adds so much. I
actually make the trip weekly, because I am doing a graduate research
assistantship. The drive is worth all I am learning. Valerie E.

Subject: [Martha_E_Rogers] PhD Education Question

<html><body>

<tt>
I have a personal question for the group.<BR>
<BR>
<BR>
<BR>
I want to get my PhD.  I have 3 options.<BR>
<BR>
            1.  PhD in Education through my parent institution of where
I<BR>
teach. (1/2 off tuition for faculty)<BR>
<BR>
            2.  Online PhD in nursing.  Focus of the program not really
in<BR>
my interest area, but is do-able.<BR>
<BR>
            3.  Drive a total of 6 hours round trip to the "closest"<BR>
traditional PhD program to Oklahoma City.<BR>
<BR>
<BR>
<BR>
If my plans are to remain in some component of nursing education
(teaching,<BR>
research, etc), would I be better served by an education PhD or a
nursing<BR>
PhD?<BR>
<BR>
<BR>
<BR>
I am stuck between the Education and Nursing option.  I would like to
hear<BR>
your opinions on the subject.<BR>
<BR>
<BR>
<BR>
Thanks,<BR>
