Description

Starting and maintaining the PECS system - otherwise known as Picture Exchange Communication System can be a daunting task.

Where to buy velcro, which type of communication book to use, what size pictures to make, who does the laminating, etc.

This will be a group to share links and sites that have been beneficial in obtaining photos for cards.

We can offer tips, hints and share feedback and experiences. What types of goals are in the IEP relating to the PECS cards, have you had an Assistive Technology assessment?

When you find ebay listings on PECS materials or related books that would be worth sharing. Also how to take your own digital photos and make your cards.

The list will be open to parents, teachers, therapists and users of PECS and adaptive equipment - AAC users are welcome to share their related experiences on what worked in the classroom, social and home environments.

Please check the links page and add any that would benefit other members. There are photos posted from a CD I purchased with over 20 categories to choose from. Other members have shared their home made products as well.

We will be having round robin mailings so please add your physical and email addresses in the database along with your phone number, if you want to be part of this mailing and swapping of extra cards. A ROUND ROBIN is sharing of cards sent to members who adhere to the rules to exchange. You need to pay for postage, tracking and contribute to the exchange, plus post when it arrives and when you mail it out. NO ONE should keep the envelope longer than five days. If you do not follow the rules your name comes off the database. Previously Round Robin #1 went out mid-May, 2007 with RR#2 in early-August 2007. Starting off 2008 there are five lists, A-E that are mailing out late March. We are keeping each list to 11 names for cost management. Please DO NOT SMOKE in the same room as the pecs cards are stored.
