Friends,
I'm not so sure about the number calculations. I think that
Belief,Fulfilling one's life purpose, environment etc. has more to do with
length of life span that just numerical calculations. What about the other
family members? Kinfolk? Internal stresses within a family?
not sure about numbers, dp

I agree with that. Perhaps I could have been more careful in my thoughts and perhaps said, NOT to hold anger in.. releasing anger may have been a better way to state it, and I have to agree if you release it in the manner you stated, that is always the best release.

After all:

Just for today, I will not anger.

Dear David,

I beg to differ:
Getting rid of real anger is getting rid of it relatively permanently, as i feel it. It may be transformed through meditation and reiki into forgiveness, and that, I feel is the real healing of anger. It has worked for me, and for the people I have taught reiki to, even in small cases regarding small anger. In these small cases, physical pain has also been controlled and small disorders cured.

On the other hand, expressions of anger seem to have wound up a spiral of anger and shame, endlessly rolling up and down. Sometimes, these effects seem to have triggered off very serious ailings and diseases.

Peace of mind is the best way to keep young and healthy, smiling and rejoicing at the light of the sun and caring for others! Please feel free to differ and tell me about it!

I disagree.

You might die from natural causes but your lifespan has been shortened due to other previous events, poor nutrition, poorly prescribed treatments, a.s.o.....that have nothing to do with your genetics of aging.
And the youthful or old appearance has much to do with life's traumas, physical and emotional, sun exposure, lack of antioxidants, junk food, and much more.

Example: my dad died at age 75; but he spent 6 years in concentration camps, and some people calculated that each year in those conditions was the equivalent of 5 years lost; so he lost 30 years due to the war and should have died at 105. He was also a heavy smoker until his fifties, take another 20-30 years away. Add to that poor diet and drugs that I know now were useless and toxic, he should have lived until 150 years, which some claim is the maximum age we can reach according to cellular biology and ability of cells to regenerate............and THAT is my target........

Youthfully,

Joe.

I think this is a fabulous analysis! My only addition, small as it may be, is that the company of young people enhances our capacity for change and joy. Children, students, friends, you name it. Though we all have the tendency to see ourselves younger than we are, it is precisely possible to see ourselves through the eyes of younger people in this case and listen to their comments. It is veru useful to do so, as it is the image that we project that they see.

Also, the attraction one has to make younger friends depends on our capacity to speak their own language, but painted with our more mature emotions, share their interests, and ours, and view their problems with our vision full of learnings from our own lives.

I think my skin makes me look younger, my diet is healthy, water is abundant in it, but I don't dress as a younger person. There is a place for young people in this world of mine and there is a world for me; my daughter and my daughter-in-law always say I'm "too sober and classical", and I'm glad to answer "I like the way I look, and you'll never be ashamed of me for looking ridiculous wearing clothes like yours!" Right or wrong, I do like the way I look!

Love and hugs

Hello Elisabeth,

I have to wonder too that if a person (particularly male) holds in their emoitons, denies thier true feelings,in other words adopts the societies imposed beliefs of how a male is SUPPOSED to act. This would have a very detrimental effect on how they age.

I have always believed that releasing the emotions, getting angry when you are angered and taking time to see the world from both a masculine and feminine perspective leads to one being balanced, healthy, generally stress free or at least having a much lower stress level than those who are ridgid in thier ways.

I have always been told that I do not look my age and I believe strongly that it is how I take on problems and release negative energies which has contributed to my well being.

I am adopted, therefore I do not know of my genetic characteristice with regard to longevity.

I am a reiki master as well I sepcialze in past life regressions and have personal knowledge of several past lives I have lived. EAch of these lives has shown me a beautiful progression of character and caring for people.

This knowledge (wisdom?) I beleive also helps me understand that stresses are self imposed, and dealing with these effwectively through letting go and being HUMAN in all senses of the word  promotes a youthful life both inwardly and outwardly.

In warmest regards,

CHAKRA SPIN, SCAN, AND WORK ON THEM. Some own observations and experiences.
(c) Copyright 2004 Elisabeth Frauendorfer, PhD

I scan the chakras with the help of the pendulum. Chakras are the portals and valves of the energy system at aura and ethereal layer levels.

NORMAL
head and trunk:

At the front of the body, all the seven main chakras on the head and trunk spin in clockwise direction if they are healthy, and the more open they are the faster the pendulum starts to spin, and the wider the circles become.

At the back of the body, the second through the sixth chakra spin anti-clockwise.
ABNORMAL
head and trunk:

Slow or absent spin means plugged up, constricted or closed chakras, resulting in energy depletion or energy overcharge in the corresponding meridians and organs, and leading further down the road to pathological symptoms. This chakras need to be opened and cleaned from stagnant energy debris by the healer.

Reverse spin is a compensation mechanism, energy is sucked from the environment and from other people for pure survival. This is a more serious condition than the above and leads to what is commonly called "energy vampirism".
NORMAL
hand palms and foot soles:
The normal spin direction of the feet and hand chakras depend on what is naturally your dominant hand.

If you are born with a RIGHT hand dominance, then the natural spin direction of your right palm and right sole chakras will be clockwise, the natural spin direction of your left palm and left sole chakras will be ANTI-clockwise. This is in accordance with the natural function of your palm and foot chakras. The dominant right hand is more used for GIVING/sending energy, and is called the "electric" hand, while to more passive left hand is the ACCEPTING hand, more used for drawing energy out of a structure. The left hand is called the "magnetic" hand.

If you are born with a LEFT hand dominance, all of that will be reversed.
ABNORMAL
hand palms and foot soles:
In people who were injured/operated on, amputated or through education forced to use their naturally passive right hand as dominant hand, I have observed specific aberrations in the chakra spin and direction.

For example, if a foot was injured and operated on, the chakra is often damaged, or the energies go right through. The latter case is shown by a vertical swing direction of the pendulum.

Blocked feet chakras are indicated by slow spin or undeterminded spin (spin direction changing a few times, sometimes even with vertical or horizontal swing intermissions).

Unblocking the foot chakras, grounding of the person and initial turning of the chakra with the apropriate movement of the palm corrects the spin direction and speed.

If a naturally left-handed person is forced (in childhood) to use her/his right hand as dominant hand, we see that the spin direction of the right palm chakra is opposite to the spin direction of the right foot chakra. This can range from total reversal of the natural spin direction to indetermined spin direction in the palm chakra, depending on the degree of re-programming.

Like attracts like, or the danger of negative emotions for/in energy work

Dear spiritual friends,

I observed many times that when I fall prey to a human weakness (the strongest ones being in love with someone and feeling disappointed) this inside turmoils weaken my aura and give entry to negative energies that stem from attacks. So, obviously I have to work more on myself to get rid of the
human weaknesses or at least control them better.

Like attracts like, and nobody of us is perfect.  Everybody struggles with carmic issues, some of us more, others less, depending on our individual path and lessons to learn.

Now, if you have some negative energies in your aura then you attract negative energies from outside.  If you get angry, irritated, jealous, drink alcohol, take drugs or else, you open a door (= chakra) in your aura for the negative energies coming from outside sources (including psychic attacks) to join the negative energies that are already in your aura/energy system, and the result is an increase of the negative energies (quantity and intensity) in your aura that can become so overwhelming that you fall into depressions etc.

Even if you use Dai Ko Myo and Cho Ku Rei during your healing and attunement sessions, you and your client are not protected 100%.   But the higher your spiritual vibratory energy level is, and the more you practise energy hygiene and are in balance emotionally and with yourself, the less likely it is that negative energy attacks can get through to you, and the less likely it is that you transfer a portion of your own negative energies along with the pure Reiki energies to your client/patient.

Remember, in the old Asian and worldwide traditions the energy healing (spiritual) student needed years to study and practise till he or she reached the level of actually being able to channel enough healing energy to treat a patient effectively.  This development was harmonious, while nowadays you have "instant Reiki Masters" who take a shortcut with their attunements, and had no time to mature spiritually.  And this so-called "Masters" attune others to make them "fast track Reiki-Masters",
too.  And the danger of actually transmitting their own negative energies onto their Master students via attunements is obvious, and that goes on down the line, passing from one Master to the next Master student, etc.  This is why the Usui system is energetically no more what it was during Usui's time.
Usui himself got initiated by Spirit directly, he was well prepared. And he trained his students for years.

In MPRUE, I only admit Reiki Masters, and I attune everybody myself to keep the lineage short and the danger of transmitting negative-energy-attunements down the line low.  First the Reiki Master will get the attunement to MPRUE Master/Healer, then - if s/he makes spiritual progress, they become
Grandmaster, and now we have a new level called Magna/Magnus.  Magna for ladies and Magnus for gents.  If you are interested to learn more please visit the initiates page at the MPRUE website.

As I am a human being I am also not immune against negative energy attacks, especially if I allow myself to get emotionally hurt because of someone or something.  And the interesting thing is, the more spiritual light someone spreads the more powerful the negative energy attacks get, up to the level
and power that Satanic circles can create.  Remember, that even Jesus got attacked by the Devil, and the former "right hand" of God was Lucifer.

One of my highest level spiritual MPRUE initiates is under constant attack (because he is fighting against injustice and demons, and radiates a lot of light) and needs to have his shields up all the time.  The moment he allows himself to have a human weakness (jealousy or anger, or a lie) the attacks get through to him and he struggles to ward this negative energy attacks off and repair his auric shield.  And he works with much stronger symbol energies than Dai Ko Myo and Cho Ku Rei."

With love and MPRUE blessings,
Elisabeth

Dear friends,
we often wonder how one person looks much younger at a certain age than another person, irrespetive of moderate variations in lifestyle and smoking/drinking habits, workload, family life, etc.

Of course, genetics play a big role in the speed at which someone ages. Time is only a relative factor, also at the cellular level, and also animals perceive time at a different speed.

While brainstorming about that topic, I found a simple formula: Let us imagine someone's parents from mother's side died from a natural death at ages of 65 and 70, and from father's side at ages 55 and 80. Adding all that together gives a total of 270 years. Divided by 4 (= 4 grandparents) that gives 67.5 which means that the average expected life span of this person (person # 1) is 67 years and 6 months, if all goes well and no accident or disease shortens the genetically determined life span. One could do the same calculations considering the parents of a person, for example they died of a natural death at age 75 and 65, = 140 / 2 = 70 years expected genetical natural life span.

Ok, let us compare person # 1 with person # 2 who for example had grandparents dying of a natural death at ages 90, 80, 95 and 100. Now, that gives an total sum of 365 and divided by 4 a genetical average of 91.25 which means that person # 2 has a genetically determined average life span of 91 years and 3 months if all goes well.

Now, 100% of the lifespan for person # 1 is 67.5 years, and for person # 2 is 91.25 years. Means: Half the biological life is over at age 33 years and 9 months for person # 1 and for person # 2 at age 45 years and about 7 months (45.625).

According to my observations, people whose grandparents and parents had a long life will look younger than a person at the same chronological age whose grandparents and parents had a shorter natural life span.

When we take the example of persons #1 and # 2, person # 1 will look older at the chronological age of 30 than person # 2 because biologically he/she IS OLDER.

Any ideas, comments? Brainstorming is very welcome. :-)))

Warmest regards and love, Elisabeth

I believe that if you have the desire and passion to do something, and if it's God's will, you will achieve it in good time. As humans, we continually put limits on ourselves for no reason at all! What's worse is putting limits on God who can do all things. We put God in a 'box'. The awesome thing about the Power of God, is that if we want to do something for God, instead of focusing on our capability, concentrate on our availability for we know that it is God through us and we can't do anything withoutGod
. Once we make ourselves available for God's work, guess whose capabilities we rely on? God's!

Dear All:

Something funny for a change.....

Namaste,

Elisabeth :-))))))))))))

Marriage - absolute classic

Marriage - Part I

Typical macho man married typical good-looking lady and after the wedding, he laid down the following rules:

'I'll be home when I want, if I want and at what time I want and I don't expect any hassle from you.  I expect a great dinner to be on the table unless I tell you that I won't be home for dinner.  I'll go hunting, fishing, boozing and card-playing when I want with my old buddies and don't you give me a hard time about it.  Those are my rules.  Any comments?'
His new bride said, 'No, that's fine with me.  Just understand that there will be sex here at seven o'clock every night ........ whether you're here or not.'
(DAMM SHE'S GOOD!)

 ************************************
Marriage (Part II)

Husband and wife had a bitter quarrel on the day of their 40th wedding anniversary!  The husband yells, 'When you die, I'm getting you a headstone that reads:  'Here Lies My Wife - Cold As Ever '  'Yeah?' she replies.  'When you die, I'm getting you a headstone that reads:  'Here Lies My Husband - Stiff At Last'
 (HE ASKED FOR IT!)

******************************
Marriage (Part III)

Husband (a doctor) and his wife are having a fight at the breakfast table.  Husband gets up in a rage and says, 'And you are no good in bed either,' and storms out of the house.  After sometime, he realizes he was nasty and decides to make amends and rings her up.  She comes to the phone after many rings, and the irritated husband says, 'what took you so long to answer the phone?'  She says, 'I was in bed.'  'In bed this early, doing what?'  'Getting a second opinion!'
(YEP, HE HAD THAT ONE COMING, TOO!)

******************************************
Marriage  (Part IV)

A man has six children and is very proud of his achievement.   He is so proud of himself, that he starts calling his wife, 'Mother of Six' in spite of her objections.  One night, they go to a party.  The man decides that it's time to go home and wants to find out if his wife is ready to leave as well.  He shouts at the top of his voice, 'Shall we go home 'Mother of Six?'  His wife, irritated by her husband's lack of discretion, shouts right back, 'Anytime you're ready, Father of Four.'
(RIGHT ON, LADY!)

**************************************

Marriage  (Part V)
The Silent Treatment

A man and his wife were having some problems at home and were giving each other the silent treatment.  Suddenly, the man realized that the next day, he would need his wife to wake him at 5:00 AM for an early morning business flight.  Not wanting to be the first to break the silence (and LOSE), he wrote on a piece of paper,  'Please wake me at 5:00 AM .'  He left it where he knew she would find it.  The next morning, the man woke up, only to discover it was 9:00 AM and he had missed his flight.  Furious, he was about to go and see why his wife hadn't wakened him, when he noticed a piece of paper by the bed.  The paper said, 'It is 5:00 AM .  Wake up.'

Energy Nutrition - 'Food' For Thoughts

by Silvia Hartmann, PhD

It is common knowledge by now that we are not just made of flesh, bone and blood but that we also have an "energy body" - a total system of complex organs, pathways, lines of communication and exchange which is essential to our well being.

For at least 6000 years, healers in every community around the World have been making changes to the energy body which results in healing to the physical body. One of the most widely known methods to do this is acupuncture, which has even been accepted by the Western scientific establishments as having incontrovertible benefits.

The fields of Energy Psychology and Meridian Energy Therapies have been developing other and more user friendly approaches to stimulating, repairing and re-balancing the energy body, resulting in wonderful improvements for mind, body and spirit.

So, there we have an "energy body" which can be damaged by circumstance and trauma, re-aligned by the practise of Chi Kung and Yoga, healed with Reiki and Acupuncture.

Now, we must ask a very important question, namely:

"What does this Energy Body NEED in order to function fully, function successfully, to have a fully active immune system which it needs to have just as well as the physical body?"

And the first answer to this central question which goes beyond healing and into prevention is:

The Energy Body needs a balanced flow of "Energy Nutrients" throughout all its many systems as the first requirement to be able to support us at all.

What Is Energy Nutrition?

There are all manners of energies coming in to the energy body at all times. We live in a veritable "Ocean of Energy" which is generated by literally "everything" - from the ground beneath to the radiation from the sun, the moon and the stars; every living being exudes vast quantities of energies all the time on a very wide bandwidth and this includes people, animals, plants, insects.

Human beings are probably the only species on this planet who have the ability to actively and consciously "shield" themselves from certain types of energy and actually are able to reject energies that exist, and may very well be most beneficial to them.

This is specifically achieved by the mechanism of "thought" or "intention".

Intention & Energy

A very common saying is, "Where intention goes, energy flows."

Although we cannot move a rock by staring at it, we can indeed influence energetic realities with intention. This is because intention and thought and energy are "of the same realm" and structurally designed to work with one another.

This process is natural and in action all the time; humans sometimes turn deliberately to trying to shape energetic realities with their intention, for example in the act of prayer, spell casting, making a wish, or the more modern versions of affirmations, goal setting, visualisation and so forth.

What has been forgotten and this is proving to be perhaps one of the most major causes for ill health and unhappiness amidst a well fed, well sheltered and well supported population in the First World today, is that our intention is interfering with energy exchanges ALL THE TIME.

This is entirely unconscious; "energy awareness" is restricted to the few in our societies who make an effort to find out more about energy healing, come into contact with the powers of the energy system because of ill health or because they are studying martial arts perhaps.

Energy Reversals or "Saying NO To Healing"

In Energy Therapies there exists the concept of a "reversal". Simply put, it means that a part of the energy system has gone into reverse and works against the rest of the system, much like an engine that has been switched over to run backwards instead of forwards.

Most often, this becomes apparent when there was a major trauma which caused such an occurrence. On the simplest level, it could be said that any time we say, "No!" to something, this is a command - a direct command! - to a part of the energy system to stop and go into reverse.

These reversals in the energy system express themselves always in something seemingly being stuck and unmovable - an injury that simply will not heal, no matter how much ointment and bandages are applied; a psychological reaction that simply won't recede, no matter how much therapy and healing is given.

The Energy Therapists talk about "specific" and "massive" reversals, for indeed there are people who show in their bodies that they have said, "No" to healing.

Many more people show in their behaviours, their bodies, their real lives absolute evidence that they must have said, "No" to prosperity, to happiness, to success, to losing weight, to living without an addictive substance - these are the people who endlessly and desperately try "everything" to overcome their problems but their problems remain, no matter what the treatment, no matter if it is successful with everyone else who has undergone it, no matter how precarious or even life-threatening their situation is becoming.

The power of intention and decision over the behaviour and activities in the Energy Body is simply extraordinary.

A simple decision, once it has occurred as a by-product of trauma or experience, will remain untouchable and out of view for an entire lifetime, causing endless suffering and misery - in the Quantum spaces of energy, time is no healer at all and something that happened perhaps 75 years ago is as red raw and as "now" as it ever was.

However, in the Quantum spaces of energy, there also resides the possibility of even the most extensive trauma being healed right now, in an instant, but for the asking. Please note that this does not mean instant healing on the "physical" because we are talking about the Energy Body here; yet it is clear that when the Energy Body functions as it should, the physical body will be supported in its own self healing endeavours from the ground up and true healing has a chance to take place.

Particularly the "reversals" are of prime importance in Energy Nutrition, because it is in the simple act of saying, "No" to an incoming energy, a barrier is created to that energy which keeps it out of the system - a malnutrition situation cannot help but ensue.

All You Need Is Love ...

It has been said by every great prophet, every great religious leader, across time and space of humanity, that love is the greatest healer and that the energy of love creates healing miracles.

There are, indeed, hundreds if not thousands of scientific studies conducted all around the First World to the effect of human attention - which is a precursor for human love - on healing, well being, symptom alleviation. One of the most famous of these had nursing staff witholding attention from newborn babies in an orphanage in the 1950s, yet giving these babies all the physical caretaking and food they could only require.

The babies began to fade and when they began to die, the experiment was abandoned as the staff refused to go on any further.

Attention energy relieves measurably the symptoms of every disease, every illness. It "makes people more intelligent", calmer, more sociable, more resourceful. It helps them live longer, even if this attention energy is provided by non-human species such as dogs, cats and monkeys, even birds as studies conducted with the effects of having pet animals in old people's homes and geriatric wards attest to.

Attention energy is an "essential nutrient" for the energy body and when people don't get this energy, they fade away, go mad and they may even die.

With the population density of the "First World," how can it be that this vital life energy seems in such short supply?

The answer is simple and profoundly sad. This energy is NOT in short supply; rather the problem lies in the fact that individual humans do not receive and process it correctly. Indeed, the ability to receive and process attention energy from other humans is probably the most likely and directly related factor that decides on any given person's health and happiness throughout their lifetimes.

Shields To Joy & Ecstasy

When a man goes up to a woman in a bar, looks her in the eye and says, "You are very beautiful," what kind of response on the energetic level would you expect to see if energy exchanges could be made visible by a special video camera?

Would this energy travel across to the woman, be openly received, taken into her many systems, moving through these systems as the energetic equivalent of a digestion takes place, powering and re-charging all manner of sub-systems in it's travel, and then smoothly flow out to leave the lady in question vibrant, happy and glowing?

Clearly, the answer to this is a resounding NO.

Indeed, the lady in the bar may have put her shields up before the man even got close enough to send his message to her. Her reaction to the energetic wave traveling towards her would most likely be more shields still, as she thinks, "He only wants X from me, he doesn't know me, he's lying, I don't like him, he looks ugly, etc." ... and many more thoughts of the same kind, all of which create an impenetrable barrier to what could otherwise have been a highly nourishing energy exchange.

This strong example was chosen to illustrate a basic point about energy exchanges in humans. It also brings up the most common objections to "taking energies into the system" - would this not be a disaster? Would the lady in the bar not end with AIDS if she didn't have all her shields to keep these energies at bay?

The answer to this is that such considerations are clearly coming from a very different place and NOT from considering the Energy Body and its requirements.

Allowing the energy from the compliment to pass into her system, through and out and as a result, feeling better, more nourished, more powerful, more "energised" does NOT lead to our lady in the bar becoming stupid all of a sudden - quite in the contrary. Someone with a balanced, energised system tends to experience great mental clarity, not to mention "emotional stability" which clearly, is a good place to make decisions about what courses of action might be for the best.

Human & Other Energies

One of the reasons that people in the First World often turn to pets for energy suppliers is that the barriers against love, affection and attention from other people are not in place and the energies can flow freely. There is, of course, the other side of the coin. Animals do not have barriers as a rule to "incoming" energies and they will actually accept attention from humans who are bursting to give these - but cannot find any fellow human recipients for their energies, only barriers upon barriers where their contributions bounce out flatly too.

But of course, there are other energies that are not received, to which we have said, "NO!" at some point and which are no longer available for the essential nutrition and widely varied energy diets our Energy Bodies require for full functioning.

Weather is a good example of this. Storms, rainy weather and cold weathers are tremendous energy providers - if one would open up to this. Current group consensus in the First World, however, is that anything other than a sunny, warm day with a cloudless sky is "bad weather" and must be avoided, bemoaned, and shielded against in every way possible. The very act of saying "NO!" to "bad weather" in and of itself reverses and disables parts of the energy system and this leads to people who hold these views to becoming more acutely affected by cold or rainy weather in return - with mental depression or psychosomatic flare-ups, for example. There are many other naturally existing energies that are blocked by individuals. Many people have strong colour preferences - someone might say, "Orange is not my colour" or, "I don't like the colour orange," which is the equivalent of saying, "NO!" to orange.

Thus instructed, the energy body deflects that particular vibration and we are very literally, in scurvy conditions.

It is important to note that the processes which have been described in this article are not an addition or a new invention, but simply represent an observation about naturally occurring exchanges in reality.

It is impossible to repair a person's self esteem, for example, who hold it to be the truth that they are worthless, with counter-examples or by sending them (telling them, showing them, demonstrating to them) that this is a false decision IF this person is INCAPABLE of receiving the energies associated with this sentiment.

Thus it is possible that the most beautiful model on Earth is in tears because she is convinced that she is ugly; the most beloved person who has innumerable family members and friends who all care deeply about them is entirely convinced that "Nobody loves me"; and the most talented and gifted people can state with absolute conviction that, "I am worthless."

It needs to be clearly understood that it is not the "meanings" of such words or phrases which will heal and put a great many things to rights, but the "energies" these words and phrases contain and carry.

These energies go to the Energy Body and there, fulfill tasks of repair, of healing, of renewal. In doing so, they correct at the underlying energetic level what is wrong which then becomes reflected in psychological and physiological changes too.

In the case of psychological changes, as a person "takes readings" of their internal energetic landscapes, this translates directly into self concept understandings and realities.

The Essential Flow Of Energies

If we go back to the example of the lady in the bar, who was told, "You are beautiful." we will remember also the resistance to let such energies into one's system for fear that they might be believed and thus, become a reality.

Many of the human energy exchanges suffer from this false understanding, namely that if one was to open oneself and accept such incoming energy or information, one would necessarily "become" that in turn.

This is the fear and misunderstanding about energy exchanges of the "You are beautiful" kind just as well as about energy exchanges of the "You are ugly" kind - either way, it must not be "believed" because that would be a very bad thing.

It is of the essence to really understand that energy exchanges have absolutely nothing to do with believing something, thinking one is something or another as a result.

Indeed, a catastrophe for many people is that at one point, someone might have said something positive which on that occasion actually did enter the energy system. It felt so good that they attempted to "hold on" to the energy involved to keep feeling like that for longer.

This causes the most severe forms of disturbances in the Energy Body as it instantly blocks the channels designed to transport this kind of information - no further energy can come in from other sources in the future.

Also, as the energy is not passing through the system as it should, behind the blockage lie veritable wastelands of empty channels and the energy organs they were meant to supply, causing severe disturbances which will firstly manifest in emotions and if they go on for long enough, physiological sensations, pain and then actual illness.

This process is also in action with forms of energy that were stopped halfway through the system as they were being perceived as damaging, and energies that never get to enter the system at all because they are being blocked off before they get into the central Energy Body at all.

Re-Learning To Process Energy Correctly

We are indeed, energy beings in an Ocean of Energies.

All we find in the Universe, all life on Earth and that includes human beings is "structurally designed" to process the flow of energies and to take part in the vast, vast cycles of life.

Energy needs to flow to be naturally correct and doing as it is designed to do. What we need to do in order to move closer to what is called The Even Flow of natural balance, is not learn something new, but to re-learn to correctly use the systems we were given.

We all have the ability to block energy and we have used this to our own disadvantage as a species for many thousands of years at least.

By definition, we all also have the ability to remove these blockages that were simply a side effect of living in a culture that seems blind to the Oceans of Energy.

We all have Energy Bodies, and within these Energy Bodies the channels and systems exist to truly feast in the Oceans of Energy.

What it takes to make this happen successfully, and easily, is firstly and foremostly to pay attention to how energy exchanges work and manifest "in the real World".

Energy manifestations are simply everywhere and once one starts to open ones awareness of such straightforward examples as energy exchanges which exist between humans, and between a single human and their environment, a great many things become very clear and obvious that never made any sense at all.

Energy nutrition, i.e. the understanding and realisation that our energy bodies have absolutely nutritional needs, is one of the aspects of this.

Further, even a base insight into this extraordinary realm will very quickly reveal which kinds of energies are missing, sorely needed, in desperately short supply in a person's body.

It is simply amazing how many previously insoluble problems become not only understood as to how they structurally function, but also how easy it is to find "energetic solutions" to what were in essence, always "energetic problems" in the first place - and thus could not be solved from other places and with physical/mental approaches at all.

Addictions, weight problems, identity problems and replacement activities of all kinds begin to make sense at last when viewed from the Energy perspective - here are people trying to use physical means to compensate for an injury, deficiency, disturbance in their energy systems which is absolutely and structurally doomed to failure.

In Conclusion

A wider understanding and experientially based exploration of the human energy body is of the essence if we wish to solve human mind/body problems that have been out of reach entirely for as many as 2000 years or more.

It is not suggested that caring for the energy body take precedence over care for the physical body. What is suggested, however, is that there are many aspects of human health and well being that simply cannot be solved AT ALL from any other place or using any other means.

The human energy body exists. It is real and many hold it to be the very foundation of all physiological functioning in the long term.

The topic of "Energy Nutrition" is one of the most exciting avenues of exploration to make true, lasting changes in any individual's health, happiness and levels of satisfaction and achievement in their lifetime, that has been discovered in many years.

We might just find that, after all, we really do live in a Universe of total abundance that really does supply everything we need and more beside, and that's it there for everyone - simply for the taking.

God created the donkey
and said to him.
"You will be a donkey. You will work un-tiringly from sunrise to sunset
carrying burdens on your back. You will eat grass,
you will have no intelligence and you will live
50 years."
The donkey answered:

"I will be a donkey, but to live
50 years is too much. Give me only 20 years"
God granted his wish.

God created the dog
and said to him:
"You will guard the house of man. You will be his best Friend.
You will eat the scraps that he gives you and you will live
30 years.
You will be a dog. "

The dog answered:

"Sir, to live
30 years is too much, give me only 15 years.
God granted his wish.

God created the monkey
and said to him:
"You will be a monkey. You will swing from branch to branch doing tricks.
You will be amusing and you will live

20
years."
The monkey answered:

"To live
20 years is too much, give me only 10 years."
God granted his wish.

Finally God created man ...
and said to him:
"You will be man, the only rational creature on the face of the earth.
You will use your intelligence to become master over all the animals.
You will dominate the world and you will live
20 years."
Man responded:

"Sir, I will be a man but to live only

20
years is too little,
give me the
30 years that the donkey refused,
the
15 years that the dog did not want and
the
10 years the monkey refused.
God granted man's wish

And since then, man lives
20
years as a man ,
marries and spends
30 years like a donkey,
working and carrying all the burdens on his back.

Then when his children are grown,
he lives 15 years like a dog taking care of the house
and eating whatever is given to him,

so that when he is old,
he can retire and live
10 years like a monkey,
going from house to house and from one son or
daughter to another doing tricks to amuse his grandchildren.

Early Death Comes From Drinking Distilled Water

During nearly 19 years of clinical practice I have had the opportunity to observe the health effects of drinking different types of water. Most of you would agree that drinking unfiltered tap water could be hazardous to your health because of things like parasites, chlorine, fluoride and dioxins.

Many health fanatics, however, are often surprised to hear me say that drinking distilled water on a regular, daily basis is potentially dangerous.

Paavo Airola wrote about the dangers of distilled water in the 1970's when it first became a fad with the health food crowd.

Distillation is the process in which water is boiled, evaporated and the vapor condensed. Distilled water is free of dissolved minerals and, because of this, has the special property of being able to actively absorb toxic substances from the body and eliminate them.
Studies validate the benefits of drinking distilled water when one is seeking to cleanse or detoxify the system for short periods of time (a few weeks at a time).
Fasting using distilled water can be dangerous because of the rapid loss of electrolytes (sodium, potassium, chloride) and trace minerals like magnesium, deficiencies of which can cause heart beat irregularities and high blood pressure. Cooking foods in distilled water pulls the minerals out of them and lowers their nutrient value.

Distilled water is an active absorber and when it comes into contact with air, it absorbs carbon dioxide, making it acidic. The more distilled water a person drinks, the higher the body acidity becomes.
According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, "Distilled water, being essentially mineral-free, is very aggressive, in that it tends to dissolve substances with which it is in contact.
Notably, carbon dioxide from the air is rapidly absorbed, making the water acidic and even more aggressive. Many metals are dissolved by distilled water."
The most toxic commercial beverages that people consume (i.e. cola beverages and other soft drinks) are made from distilled water. Studies have consistently shown that heavy consumers of soft drinks (with or without sugar) spill huge amounts of calcium, magnesium and other trace minerals into the urine.
The more mineral loss, the greater the risk for osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, hypothyroidism, coronary artery disease, high blood pressure and a long list of degenerative diseases generally associated with premature aging.
A growing number of health care practitioners and scientists from around the world have been advocating the theory that aging and disease is the direct result of the accumulation of acid waste products in the body.
There is a great deal of scientific documentation that supports such a theory. A poor diet may be partially to blame for the waste accumulation. Meats, sugar, white flour products, fried foods, soft drinks, processed foods, alcohol, dairy products and other junk foods cause the body to become more acidic. Stress, whether mental or physical can lead to acid deposits in the body.
There is a correlation between the consumption of soft water (distilled water is extremely soft) and the incidence of cardiovascular disease. Cells, tissues and organs do not like to be dipped in acid and will do anything to buffer this acidity including the removal of minerals from the skeleton and the manufacture of bicarbonate in the blood.
The longer one drinks distilled water, the more likely the development of mineral deficiencies and an acid state. I have done well over 3000 mineral evaluations using a combination of blood, urine and hair tests in my practice. Almost without exception, people who consume distilled water exclusively, eventually develop multiple mineral deficiencies.
Those who supplement their distilled water intake with trace minerals are not as deficient but still not as adequately nourished in minerals as their non-distilled water drinking counterparts even after several years of mineral supplementation.
The ideal water for the human body should be alkaline and this requires the presence of minerals like calcium and magnesium.
Distilled water tends to be acidic and can only be recommended as a way of drawing poisons out of the body. Once this is accomplished, the continued drinking of distilled water is a bad idea.
... Disease and early death is more likely to be seen with the long term drinking of distilled water. Avoid it except in special circumstances.

Received this from one of our MPRUE Great-Grandmasters/Teachers with thanks, and share it with his permission.

Happy Easter!

And continuing thanks for all of your wonderful service, love, and light!

After your email (copied below), spent a while meditating, sending energy.

Have been sending out lots of energy today. Maybe overdid it a bit at one point. Was at church, during Easter service; became quite hot and faint. Nothing serious for me, and was OK very soon, but had to rebalance and make sure was getting more energy coming in than going out ...  So much need out there, but so much help people are giving and guiding to meet the need.

With the help of your gifts, continue to grow and develop.  This week first could see the energy flows between parts of a tree or bush. Quite something. Branches and buds near each other send energy back and forth. Had never thought that they are like siblings, strongly connected, sharing energy.  Makes the energy flow in spring especially turn into quite a dynamic experience!

It also is wonderful to see in real time the flow of energy during a healing session. Adding some from outside, it is clear where it runs into blockages, and thrilling to see, when those are clear, how the energy surges forward, till the next blockage, when the process can be repeated.  It is more and more obvious how important is the microcosmic orbit.  Also, it is obvious in many people how energy is leaking out all the time from the root chakra, and how closing that can be of so much help.  Quite funny doing that this week with a male dog that was a bit overdoing things, over-excited, and then he calmed down so much when the energy was internally directed.

In general look around for where the major energy leaks are does help people especially those who are depressed or exhausted.

In computing, sports, and healing, as well as other areas, there often is the choice of the brute force approach or the technical / technique / finesse approach.  In healing sessions, often have been focusing on the latter, which when explained, helps many interested in healing to understand and see where there are problems.  It also helps for those who want to help themselves, and can see how they can progress step by step.

But more and more see the benefits of the brute force approach -- in healing a better explanation is bathing someone in light and love.  There are so many small as well as large blockages, that going after each of them is a never ending process. (Sometimes have used the identify and parallel-fix approach - find all the problems, then let Spirit direct energy to all of them in parallel.)  That (i.e., the problem of never ending fixing of particular issues) is true especially since real health only arises when at all levels (e.g., physical as with CKR, emotional as with SHK, mental as with HSZSN, energetic as with DKM, and spiritual as with many of your methods) a soul, in all its parts (every cell, every energetic structure, every part of the mind and spirit), is fully immersed and bathed and nurtured by Spirit.  On Thursday, worked with a friend fighting cancer, using the bathing in light and love approach, after identifying all the particular blockages, and of course all of those were automatically fixed along the way toward the point of becoming filled with light.

We're still having cold weather, but the trees and flowers are fighting to emerge, so spring is starting - what a glorious time and hope!

Warmest regards, Ed

PS If any of the above is useful to share, feel free; I hate to take the time of others, but thought that you might not mind an update.

Dear MPRUE Family, Friends and Healers!

I wish you a very Happy Easter - if you are a Christian - and if not, then pleasant seasonal holidays.

This time Easter falls on a very special day of the year, around the start of Spring, with all the strong energy influences of the Astral Sun (which is very near the physical one now and the reason why in Spring everything feels so positive and grows so fast) combined with the concentrated thought energy (elementals) created by millions of Christians during the centuries.
If you tune into this energy wave in the right way, then you might have the positive energy to create miracles....

With MPRUE blessings and much Love and Light,
Elisabeth

[doveofo] NESARA Ends Scams re: “Global Warming†& Fossil Fuels
January 30, 2008  7:35 p.m. PST

Hello Dear Friends and White Knights,

Last weekend I was looking for some true information from which I might learn something important.

In the last 20 years, I’ve learned that most information from the government is LIES and most information on mainstream media is LIES –
both are controlled by the Illuminati.

I thought about who in my past studies had demonstrated that he knows the TRUTH about the world.  One of the people I thought about was
David Ickes who has exposed the truth about the worldwide Illuminati organization.

I searched for and found an audio interview of David Ickes. David discussed the FACT that NOT all experts believe the propaganda put out
by Al Gore regarding “global warming†being due to using fossil fuels.  I quote an article below which disputes the Al Gore story.

People should always question anything coming from an Illuminati source:  Al Gore is an  Illuminati.  Many Illuminati drink the blood of children as part of their rituals because they are hoping to become younger by drinking children’s blood.   Al Gore carries blood with him; he carries bottles of blood in his suitcase; Al Gore is NOT a hemophiliac – he IS Illuminati.

Yes, Bill and Hillary Clinton are Illuminati and also participate in ceremonial blood drinking.  As are George and Laura Bush, many top people in Bush’s government, many members of Congress, and nearly all the US Supreme Court Judges – all Illuminati.

Most presidential candidates from both parties are Illuminati EXCEPT for Barack Obama, Ron Paul, and Dennis Kucinich.

The Illuminati are planning to force people to keep using fossil fuels; there are other energy sources already developed, but suppressed by the Illuminati.  The Illuminati’s plan is to brainwash people and restrict people’s travel by claiming they are damaging the environment if they travel using fossil fuels.

The Al Gore movie is part of the Illuminati propaganda.

There are other Illuminati actions which are harming the ionosphere.
In Alaska, there is a federal government approved system called HAARP which was originally built for the US military but is used to control the weather.  The HAARP system also BLOWS HOLES in the ionosphere – holes which let in more of the harmful rays from the sun.

THE TRUTH ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING - IT'S THE SUN THAT'S TO BLAME

By Michael Leidig and Roya Nikkhah
Last Updated: 11:15pm BST 17/07/2004

Global warming has finally been explained: the Earth is getting hotter because the Sun is burning more brightly than at any time during the
past 1,000 years, according to new research. A study by Swiss and German scientists suggests that increasing radiation from the sun is responsible for recent global climate changes.
Dr Sami Solanki, the director of the renowned Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research in Gottingen, Germany, who led the research,
said: "The Sun has been at its strongest over the past 60 years and may now be affecting global temperatures.

"The Sun is in a changed state. It is brighter than it was a few hundred years ago and this brightening started relatively recently - in the last 100 to 150 years."
Dr Solanki said that the brighter Sun and higher levels of "greenhouse gases", such as carbon dioxide, both contributed to the change in the
Earth's temperature but it was impossible to say which had the greater impact.

SUN'S OUTPUT INCREASING IN POSSIBLE TREND FUELING GLOBAL WARMING
By Robert Roy Britt
Senior Science Writer
posted: 02:30 pm ET  20 March 2003

In what could be the simplest explanation for one component of global warming, a new study shows the Sun's radiation has increased by .05
percent per decade since the late 1970s.

The increase would only be significant to Earth's climate if it has been going on for a century or more, said study leader Richard Willson, a Columbia University researcher also affiliated with NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies.

The Sun's increasing output has only been monitored with precision since satellite technology allowed necessary observations. Willson is
not sure if the trend extends further back in time, but other studies suggest it does.

"This trend is important because, if sustained over many decades, it could cause significant climate change," Willson said.

In a NASA-funded study recently published in Geophysical Research Letters, Willson and his colleagues speculate on the possible history of the trend based on data collected in the pre-satellite era.

"Solar activity has apparently been going upward for a century or more," Willson told SPACE.com today.

Significant component

Further satellite observations may eventually show the trend to be short-term. But if the change has indeed persisted at the present rate through the 20th Century, "it would have provided a significant component of the global warming the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reports to have occurred over the past 100 years," he said.

That does not mean industrial pollution has not been a significant factor, Willson cautioned.

Scientists, industry leaders and environmentalists have argued for years whether humans have contributed to global warming, and to what extent. The average surface temperature around the globe has risen by about 1 degree Fahrenheit since 1880. Some scientists say the increase could be part of natural climate cycles. Others argue that greenhouse gases produced by automobiles and industry are largely to blame.

Willson said the Sun's possible influence has been largely ignored because it is so difficult to quantify over long periods.
Confounding efforts to determine the Sun's role is the fact that its energy output waxes and wanes every 11 years. This solar cycle, as it is called, reached maximum in the middle of 2000 and achieved a second peak in 2002. It is now ramping down toward a solar minimum that will arrive in about three years.

Connections

Changes in the solar cycle -- and solar output -- are known to cause short-term climate change on Earth. At solar max, Earth's thin upper atmosphere can see a doubling of temperature. It swells, and denser air can puff up to the region of space where the International Space Station orbits, causing increased drag on the ship and forcing more frequent boosts from space shuttles.

Solar max has also been tied to a 2 percent increase in clouds over much of the United States.

It might seem logical to assume tie climate to solar output, but firm connections are few. Other studies looking further back in time have suggested a connection between longer variations in solar activity and temperatures on Earth.

Examinations of ancient tree rings and other data show temperatures declined starting in the 13th Century, bottomed out at 2 degrees below the long-term average during the 17th Century, and did not climb back to previous levels until the late 19th Century. Separate records of sunspots, auroral activity (the Northern Lights) and terrestrial deposits of certain substances generated in atmospheric reactions triggered by solar output, suggest the Sun was persistently active prior to the onset of this Little Ice Age, as scientists call the event.

Solar activity was lowest during the 17th Century, when Earth was most frigid.
Large-scale ocean and climate variations on Earth can also mask long-term trends and can make it difficult to sort out what is normal, what is unusual, and which effects might or might not result from shifts in solar radiation.

To get above all this, scientists rely on measurements of total solar energy, at all wavelengths, outside Earth's atmosphere. The figure they derive is called Total Solar Irradiance (TSI).

Heating up

The new study shows that the TSI has increased by about 0.1 percent over 24 years. That is not enough to cause notable climate change, Willson and his colleagues say, unless the rate of change were maintained for a century or more.

On time scales as short as several days, the TSI can vary by 0.2 percent due to the number and size of sunspots crossing the face of the Sun. That shift, said to be insignificant to weather, is however equal to the total amount of energy used by humans, globally, for a year, the researchers estimate.â€

The study analyzed data from six satellites orbiting Earth at different times over the 24 years. Willson ferreted out errors in one of the datasets that had prevented previous studies from discovering the trend.

A separate recent study of Sun-induced magnetic activity near Earth, going back to 1868, provides compelling evidence that the Sun's current increase in output goes back more than a century, Willson said. …â€

For whatever it's worth......  :-)))

Statistically and among academics, the human IQ increases till about the age of 25 and then keeps stable or with a slight decline till old age.  25 is the age when people usually finish their rigorous university studies and only continue with their education at leisure or sporadically during their professional life.
Among blue-collar workers, the IQ statistically increases till they finish school at about age 15 or 18 or something, and then also remains more or less stable, or declines with time (and lack of brain "exercise" or continued efforts to study something new).

So, to keep the brain fit, healthy and fully functional, one needs to continue studying something new (like for example a new language,...) once in a while or continuously, and also eat healthy (vegetables, fruits, fresh water, by avoiding heavy meat/pork, alcohol, sugar, etc), do exercises in fresh air, moderate sunshine, and keep active and interested, relaxed, and happy.  :-)))))
Qi gong, Reiki, Yoga, hiking in fresh air, swimming in the ocean, and things like that are very helpful for the brain and the rest of the body, and the mind, too.
But I am sure that is nothing new for most of you, as health-conscious healers! :-))))))))

Love and warmest regards,
Elisabeth

Keeping Your Brain Fit

There's plenty you can do to slow the effects of aging. Here's how to keep your thinking and memory sharp

Posted January 31, 2008

Marian Conte's brain weighs 1,100 grams, according to Nintendo. "That's up from 800 grams when I started playing," jokes Conte, 52, a real-estate agent from Hamilton, N.J., who recently added the video game Big Brain Academy to her fitness regimen. The better she scores on brainteasers, the larger her fictional brain. Since Conte's mother died of complications from Alzheimer's disease in 2003, she's trying to guard herself any way she can, embracing crossword puzzles, fruits and vegetables, and a new genre of high-tech workouts that aim to slow cognitive loss. This particular game makes no such claim. But regular play certainly can't hurt, Conte figures: "I want to do any little thing I can to protect my brain."

The Incredible Shrinking Brain
(Stephen Rountree-USN&WR)

If her Nintendo score isn't solid evidence, science increasingly suggests Conte's efforts may pay off. Just within the past few months, several groups of researchers have added support for the growing consensus that plenty can be done to slow the age-related declines in memory, mental speed, and decision making that affect most people. In November, a team from the Mayo Clinic and the University of Southern California announced that one computer-based mental training program appeared to improve older people's cognitive performance by as much as 10 years. That same month, a Harvard researcher found that long-term use of beta carotene supplements delayed cognitive decline by up to a year and a half.

And a new book out last month puts forth evidence that "exercise is the single best thing you can do for your brain," says author John Ratey, a clinical associate professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. The book is Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain.

"Some of the myths about the brain—that it was not changeable, that there was nothing you could do about cognitive decline—have really been dispelled in the past 10 years," says Lynda Anderson, director of the Healthy Aging Program at the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, whose bold goal is "to maintain or improve the cognitive performance of all adults." The potential payoff is enormous. Alzheimer's now afflicts 4.5 million people in the United States—double the number in 1980—and is expected to reach 16 million by 2050. "Statistics show if we could delay the onset of Alzheimer's by five years, the number of people with the disease would be cut in half," says Yaakov Stern, a cognitive neuroscientist at Columbia University.

What are you up against? The inevitable physical changes start in early adulthood but become especially marked after about age 60 or so. Gradually, the brain shrinks, losing around 0.5 percent to 1 percent of its volume each year after that age threshold; brains with Alzheimer's shrink about twice as fast. The effects are greatest in the prefrontal cortex, the seat of executive function (which includes working memory—responsible for remembering a telephone number while you're dialing, say—and planning, focus, and behavior choices), and sometimes in the hippocampus, involved in memory. Brain cells' dendrites and axons—the slender filaments that transmit electrical impulses—shrink. The brain's white matter, which contains nerve fibers that transmit signals from one brain region to another, starts to degrade around age 50. Result: It gets harder and harder to remember what you wanted to buy at the grocery store, to process and respond to information, and to reason your way through a problem. In your 70s and 80s, executive function starts to fail.

Not every mental skill suffers equally. Vocabulary, for instance, tends to remain, as do skills practiced for a long time, like playing the piano or using a spreadsheet. You might even improve at some things: In tests of experienced crossword puzzlers of all ages, the best were in their 60s and 70s.

Potential. The more scientists learn about the brain's decay, the more curious they've become about how well people function anyway. Even among people 85 and older, only 18.2 percent live in nursing homes. "In the past, much of the research has focused on disease and decline," says Gene Cohen, director of the Center on Aging, Health and Humanities at George Washington University. "Now we're looking at the concept of potential and how older people often continue to thrive and grow even in the face of the most serious illness." Recent studies of both animal and human subjects have found that several factors go hand in hand with better mental performance, including education, professional success, and intellectual, social, and physical activities. A 2003 study reported in the New England Journal of Medicine, for example, found that people over 75 who danced, read, or played board games or musical instruments also had a lower rate of dementia.

Much of the work has focused on finding ways to bulletproof people against Alzheimer's. In mice, an Alzheimer's vaccine seemed to work, but it proved toxic in humans and trials were suspended (although research on vaccines continues). Beta carotene supplements may delay cognitive decline if taken for many years—but only by a year and a half. Education seems to lower your odds of Alzheimer's—but even some Nobel laureates develop it. Cholesterol-lowering drugs seemed to offer some promise in fending off Alzheimer's, but a 12-year-long study published in January showed they had no effect. For now, experts think the best approach is to take the sorts of steps that Conte is taking to delay normal cognitive decline.

Stretch the plastic. For decades, scientists assumed that humans were born with all the brain cells they'd ever have. Then, in the 1970s, researchers showed that new brain cells and neural pathways form through the end of life. "This was the beginning of the brain plasticity movement," says Cohen, "the understanding that when we challenge our brains, the brain cells sprout new dendrites, which results in increased synapses, or contact points." More recent research has shown that there isn't an age limit: Training older adults in certain memory tasks, like remembering faces and names, seems to boost those specific abilities—though it won't remind you to bring your shopping list to the store. And the newest evidence suggests that intensive practice in reasoning skills or in distinguishing sounds appears to lead to more generalized improvements in brain function.

In 2006, for example, a controlled clinical study of more than 2,000 older people by researchers at Pennsylvania State University, Indiana University, Johns Hopkins University, and elsewhere found that those who received 10 60-to-75-minute training sessions in reasoning—specifically, in recognizing word, number, and letter patterns and filling in the next item in a series—reported less difficulty with such activities of daily living as understanding instructions on a medication label. The effects still were apparent five years later. This past November, scientists from the University of Southern California and the Mayo Clinic announced that study subjects who spent an hour a day for eight to 10 weeks using a program that asked them to recognize subtle differences in sounds performed better than the control group on memory and speed tests, too. Designers of the Brain Fitness Program (made by Posit Science, which funded the study) claim that such ear training causes the brain to convey information more precisely from one region to another—which, in turn, improves other types of thinking.

"The amount of memory improvement was equivalent to going back 10 years in your ability," says Elizabeth Zelinski, professor of gerontology and psychology at USC and a principal investigator on the study, which has not yet been published.

Experts caution that most brain-training products haven't been tested and that what data do exist are still shaky. If improvement of daily living tasks is the goal, "we don't yet have the data to suggest they accomplish that," says Arthur Kramer, a neuroscientist at the University of Illinois. "Yes, we have data that says you can get better at certain things with practice. But does it translate to the real world? We don't know yet." Still, many doctors who work with older people feel they don't have time to wait for the research, and nursing homes and senior centers across the country are adding "brain gyms" and other programs to help older people stay mentally active.

"I've learned more about China than you can imagine," says Hortense Gutmann, 100, who started using E-mail just over a year ago through a new computer-education program for residents of Sarah Neuman Center for Healthcare and Rehabilitation, a nursing home in Mamaroneck, N.Y. She now keeps in touch with relatives there, as well as in Minnesota and Israel, and takes great pleasure in having mastered a new skill.

Consumers aren't waiting for more research, either. The market for products like Brain Fitness Program, Nintendo's Brain Age, and MindFit soared to an estimated $80 million in 2007, up from just $2 million to $4 million in 2005, according to SharpBrains.com, a San Francisco-based group that follows the industry. Meanwhile, the Alzheimer's Association recommends any activity that will keep you curious and learning: reading and writing, attending lectures, taking classes, even gardening.

Sound body, sound mind. Still, the best workout for your brain may be the old-fashioned kind.

As far back as 1999, researchers at the University of Illinois found that older people who started exercising showed faster reaction times and better ability to focus after just six months than did a control group. Now, it's becoming clearer why. In a second study reported in 2006, the same team found that the aerobic exercisers actually increased their brain size by about 3 percent. Last year, researchers at Columbia University found that when people exercised regularly for three months, blood flow increased to a part of the hippocampus, which is important for memory. In studies of mice who exercised on treadmills, increased blood flow to the same part of the brain corresponded with an increase in the production of new brain cells.

The power of exercise seems far more impressive than that of brain-training software, says Sandra Aamodt, editor in chief of Nature Neuroscience, a scientific journal on brain research, and coauthor of the forthcoming book Welcome to Your Brain. A recent meta-analysis of numerous exercise studies found that, on average, faithful aerobic exercise might boost someone's cognitive performance from average—say, from 10th place out of 20 people tested—to notably above average—say, to No. 5. But cognitive training would boost the same person to eighth out of 20.

Why is exercise so good for the brain? Maybe for the same reason it's so good for the heart: its beneficial effect on blood vessels. "It may be that a pretty significant amount of deterioration in brain function relates to disruptions of the cardiovascular system by microstrokes," in the tiny vessels in the brain, says Aamodt. Exercise may help prevent them. It also stimulates the production of proteins called growth factors, which promote the formation and growth of brain cells and synapses.

Certain nutrients, too, are thought to be protective. The antioxidants in fruits and vegetables have been linked to improved cognitive function; berries, for instance, seem especially beneficial in keeping brains spry. "Old neurons, like a lot of old married couples, don't talk to each other anymore," says James Joseph, director of the neuroscience lab at the USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University. "We have found that the berry fruits improve neuronal communication." In November, Harvard researchers announced that men who took a beta carotene supplement for 18 years had slightly better cognitive function than those who didn't—their memory scores matched those of people about one year younger. However, men who took supplements for only one year showed no improvement, and several other studies have found no link between antioxidants and mental performance. The Alzheimer's Association recommends a diet high in dark-colored veggies, like kale, spinach, beets, and eggplant; colorful fruits like berries, raisins, prunes, oranges, and red grapes; plus fish like salmon or trout high in heart-healthful omega-3 fatty acids.

Making connections. It has been more than two decades since Bill Harves, 90, quit singing in his church choir. Four years ago, he joined the professionally led chorale that rehearses once a week at his Bailey's Crossroads, Va., continuing care retirement community. The chorale gives several concerts a year, including one at Washington, D.C.'s Kennedy Center. He's gained in breathing technique, enunciation, and music reading skills. "There's no doubt I've improved as a singer," he says.

Besides having fun, Harves, who also serves as chairman of his community's computer club and is active on a residents' committee, is very likely protecting his cognitive function. In a study of more than 2,800 people ages 65 or older, Harvard researchers found that those with at least five social ties—church groups, social groups, regular visits, or phone calls with family and friends—were less likely to suffer cognitive decline than those with no social ties.

"The working hypothesis is that it has something to do with stress management," says Marilyn Albert, a neuroscientist at Johns Hopkins and codirector of the Alzheimer's research center there. In animal studies, a prolonged elevation in stress hormones damages the hippocampus. Social engagement appears to boost people's sense of control, which affects their stress level. Creative arts seem to be a highly promising way to increase social engagement. George Washington University's Cohen has found that elderly people who joined choirs also stepped up their other activities during a 12-month period, while a nonsinging control group dropped out of some activities. The singers also reported fewer health problems, while the control group reported an increase.

All the new research has senior programs rethinking their offerings. In Chicago, for example, Mather LifeWays, a not-for-profit that promotes healthful aging, has opened three neighborhood cafes that serve coffee and sandwiches to people of all ages and offer fitness classes, computer courses, lifelong-learning opportunities, and volunteer activities for older adults. "I've met lots of friends here," says Jill Wonsil, 66, who drops in at the cafe near her home several times a week to socialize, check E-mail, and take exercise and other classes. If living life to the fullest is the best way to stay sharp, it's not such a tough prescription to swallow.

Scientists discover way to reverse loss of memory

By Jeremy Laurance, Health Editor
Wednesday, 30 January 2008
Scientists performing experimental brain surgery on a man aged 50 have stumbled across a mechanism that could unlock how memory works.
The accidental breakthrough came during an experiment originally intended to suppress the obese man's appetite, using the increasingly successful technique of deep-brain stimulation. Electrodes were pushed into the man's brain and stimulated with an electric current. Instead of losing appetite, the patient instead had an intense experience of déjà vu. He recalled, in intricate detail, a scene from 30 years earlier. More tests showed his ability to learn was dramatically improved when the current was switched on and his brain stimulated.
Scientists are now applying the technique in the first trial of the treatment in patients with Alzheimer's disease. If successful, it could offer hope to sufferers from the degenerative condition, which affects 450,000 people in Britain alone, by providing a "pacemaker" for the brain.
Three patients have been treated and initial results are promising, according to Andres Lozano, a professor of neurosurgery at the Toronto Western Hospital, Ontario, who is leading the research.
Professor Lozano said: "This is the first time that anyone has had electrodes implanted in the brain which have been shown to improve memory. We are driving the activity of the brain by increasing its sensitivity – turning up the volume of the memory circuits. Any event that involves the memory circuits is more likely to be stored and retained."
The discovery had caught him and his team "completely by surprise", Professor Lozano said. They had been operating on the man, who weighed 190kg (30st), to treat his obesity by locating the point in his brain that controls appetite. All other attempts to curb his eating had failed and brain surgery was the last resort.
The treatment for obesity was unsuccessful. But, while the researchers were identifying potential appetite suppressant points in the hypothalamus, the part of the brain associated with hunger, the man suddenly began to say that memory was flooding back.
"He reported the experience of being in a park with friends from when he was around 20 years old and, as the intensity of stimulation increased, the details became more vivid. He recognised his girlfriend [from the time] ... The scene was in colour. People were wearing identifiable clothes and were talking, but he could not decipher what they were saying," the researchers write in Annals of Neurology, published today.
The man, who has not been identified, was also tested on his ability to learn lists of paired objects. After three weeks of continuous hypothalamic stimulation, his performance on two learning tests was significantly improved. He was also much more likely to remember a list of unrelated paired objects with the electrodes turned on than when turned off.
Speaking to The Independent yesterday, Professor Lozano said: "His performance improved dramatically. As we turned the current up, we first drove his memory circuits and improved his learning. As we increased the intensity of the current, we got spontaneous memories of discrete events. At a certain intensity, he would slash to the scene [in the park]. When the intensity was increased further, he got more detail but, when the current was turned off, it rapidly decayed."
The discovery surprised the scientists as the hypothalamus has not usually been identified as a seat of memory. The contacts that most readily produced the memories were located close to a structure called the fornix, an arched bundle of fibres that carries signals within the limbic system, which is involved in memory and emotions and is situated next to the hypothalamus.
Professor Lozano is a world authority on deep-brain stimulation who has undertaken 400 operations on Parkinson's disease sufferers and is developing the technique as a treatment for depression, for which he has performed 28 operations. He said the discovery of its role in stimulating memory had wide implications.
"It gives us insight into which brain structures are involved in memory. It gives us a means of intervening in the way we have already done in Parkinson's and for mood disorders such as depression, and it may have therapeutic benefit in people with memory problems," he said.
The researchers are testing the approach in six Alzheimer's patients in a Phase 1 safety study. Three have so far had electrodes surgically implanted. The electrodes are attached via a cable that runs below the skull and down the neck to a battery pack stitched under the skin of the chest. The "pacemaker" delivers a constant low-level current that stimulates the brain but cannot be perceived by the patient.
Professor Lozano said: "It is the same device as is used for Parkinson's disease. We have placed the electrodes in exactly the same area of the hypothalamus because we want to see if we can reproduce the findings in the earlier experiment. We believe the memory circuits we are stimulating are close by, physically touching the hypothalamus.
"It is a very effective treatment for the motor problems associated with Parkinson's disease and it has been used on 40,000 people. We are in the early stages of using it with Alzheimer's patients and we don't know if it will work. We want to assess if we can reach the memory circuits and drive improvement. It is a novel approach to dealing with this problem."
British researchers welcomed the discovery. Andrea Malizia, a senior lecturer in psychopharmacology at the University of Bristol who is studying deep-brain stimulation as a treatment for depression, said: "If they had said let's stick an electrode in the hypothalamus to modify Alzheimer's disease, I would have said 'Why start there?' But, if they have had a serendipitous finding, then that is as good. Serendipitous findings are how a lot of discoveries in science have been made."
Ayesha Khan, a scientific liaison officer at the Alzheimer's Disease Society, said: "This is very cutting-edge research. It is exciting, but the initial result is in one person. It will need much further investigation."
How deep-brain stimulation works
Deep -brain stimulation has been used for more than a decade to treat a range of conditions including depression, chronic pain, Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders.
It has been so successful in treating Parkinson's that 40,000 patients worldwide now have electrodes implanted in their brains driven by pacemakers stitched into their chests.
As the devices become smaller, requiring less risky surgery, and the target areas of the brain requiring stimulation are more precisely identified, demand for the treatment is expected to leap. Although it is expensive, the potential savings in care and treatment costs are immense. It does not lead to dependence on drugs and is reversible.
The electrodes are implanted under local anaesthesia while the patient is awake. Before the operation, the neurosurgeon performs an MRI scan and establishes the target location for the electrodes. He then carries out a craniotomy – lifting a section of the skull – and inserts the electrodes and leads. By stimulating the electrodes and checking the patient's response, the surgeon can check that they are positioned in the right place.
Different areas of the brain are targeted for different conditions. For Parkinson's disease, they are placed in the subthalamic nucleus; for depression, in area 25 of the cingulate cortex.
Deep-brain stimulation was developed in France and first licensed by the Food and Drug Administration in the US in 1997 as a treatment for tremor. In the UK, the surgery is performed at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London, in Bristol, in Oxford and at a handful of other centres.
The name of the procedure is in some ways a misnomer as it often involves inhibiting electrical activity in an area of the brain rather than stimulating it. The technique is as much about restoring balance between competing brain areas which leads to the tremor characteristic of some types of Parkinson's disease.

Remote Healing Measured by the Biofield Meter

Buryl Payne, Ph. D. Psychology

 Psychophysics Laboratories

www.buryl.com

A force around the human body different from electric, magnetic, gravitic, photic, or thermal has previously been discovered and was used in this research.  Originally called a ‘biofield’ and now called a ‘spin force’, it was found to vary in amplitude with lunar phase, solar activity, vitality of the subject and other factors.  It was found to vary in amplitude with intended remote healing attempts.  In 17 out of 20 trials in this pilot study, with healers from 50 to 3,000 miles distant, a clear change in amplitude of the spin force was observed.

It is known by experience that prayer and other means of visualization at a distance enhance healing, although no satisfactory explanation has been found to explain this effect.  This study shows the operation of a different type of force may be involved.  Called a spin force, torque, or rotational force, it is hypothesized to exist around all living organisms1.

Biological spin force was accidentally discovered by the author while investigating 'pyramid energy' in 1976.  The author’s device, called a Biofield Meter, displays a spin force when placed around an organism. It was found to exist around every human tested, a couple of plants, a grapefruit, watermelon, cat, dog and horse.  Presumably it exists around all living organisms and its existence has been observed by other researchers2.  The amplitude of rotation of the Biofield Meter varies with solar and geomagnetic activity, changes direction temporarily at times of new and full moon and varies to some degree with the health of the subject1, 3.

Russian Scientists apparently discovered a similar force to that which is measured by the Biofield Meter.  They called it a 'Torsion field' and did not notice that it was present around living organisms.  One Russian researcher found possible evidence that torsion fields appear to propagate significantly faster than the speed of light.   He designed a device which could detect the Torsion Field from stars and found that the effect was larger when he pointed his device at the place where the star would be today rather than where it was when the light left the star some time ago.  This possible high velocity of spin field could be a factor in healing at a distance.

Several researchers have observed some physiological changes in humans as a response to remote healing.  Ron Hruby, a retired NASA electrical engineer, made his own version of the Biofield Meter and hypothesized that it might respond to distant healing attempts on a subject4.  He found this to be the case.  In 18 trials with four subjects, he found 100% correlation of changes of the Biofield Meter amplitude of rotation with attempted healings by a small group ten miles distant from the subject.

In practice, the Biofield Meter rotates a few degrees after being placed over a subject.  Given an initial impulse, and because it is a string suspension, the torque on the string, or winding force, limits continuous rotational movement.  It winds up and unwinds, in other words, oscillating back and forth for a few minutes. The number of degrees of initial rotation was used as a measure of spin force around the body.

This experiment was conducted in Santa Cruz, California. Twenty trials were conducted May to June, 2005. The first trial was completed with a small group of remote healers in Sheffield, Massachusetts, a distance of 3,000 miles from Santa Cruz.  Three Biofield Meters were set up around three subjects.  The subjects’ first names were supplied to the distant healers. The healers chose one subject for the healing attempt, which was unknown to the observer.  A start time was determined for the healing attempt, and observation of the biofield meters began at that time. Movement of the three biofield meters were measured and recorded during the trial period.  Following the trial period, the name of the chosen subject was revealed to the observer.

In addition to this initial trial, seventeen other remote healers were invited to attempt distant healing on one of two subjects chose by the experimenter.  Seventeen subsequent trials involved one to three subjects and one to four remote healers. It was not feasible to repeat tests using multiple subjects as it was too difficult to coordinate them. Two more trials were conducted on a radio show called 'Out of Time' in Hot Springs, Arkansas.  On this show the author invited the listening audience to attempt remote healing on a subject sitting next to him. There were two main subjects who where involved in most of the trials.

In the first trial, one of the three Biofield Meters rotated more than 720 degrees, (more than 2 complete rotations).  Later phone communication showed that this was the subject chosen for the healing attempt. The subject did not report any sensations or feelings at the time of the attempted healing or on the following days.

In seventeen out of twenty trials, the Biofield Meter showed deflections from about 3 degrees to four full turns (1440 degrees) around the subject chosen for healing.  These seventeen included the trials involving the radio show audience.

No obvious 'healing' effects or sensations were observed by one of the two main subjects. The other subject felt sensations four times which resulted in some healing one time. In three trials where it was offered the remote healers correctly identified problem areas for one subject.

From the results of this experiment, one can hypothesize that healers have a much greater influence on the biofield than other effects, such as phase of the moon, solar storms, the proximity of some planets, vitality of the subject, or willful intention of the subject (psychokinesis).  Many studies can be made both on the biofield and on remote healing.

Dear Healers,
this is an interesting article that I received from my friend Prof. Nora Kreimer / Argentina and thought some of you might be interested in it, or would like to contribute your own ideas, inputs or experiences for discussion.

In my experience I have seen many miracles, also among cancer patients/clients.  But some of them relapsed because the root or cause of the cancer was not solved, just the symptoms (up to the level of clinical diagnosis of full remission!).  They were unwilling to change their way of thinking and lifestyle that caused the cancer in the first place to develop.  I found that cancer is usually developing some time - 5 to 8 years - after a major emotional trauma that could not be worked out but got suppressed.  The location of the primary cancer is significant for the nature of the emotinal trauma...
A relapse is usually much more violent and aggressive, and the cancer develops faster than the original one, and about impossible to remove.  I always urge cancer clients (and everybody) not to discontinue any conventional medical treatments that they receive, and if they accept alternative healing methods then they should be done IN ADDITION to chemotherapy or whatever treatment they are under.

One important aspect of working on cancer with energetics is that a) one needs to work on the root cause (emotinal trauma release), and b) first the dark root energies of the ethereal layer that nourish the cancer cells need to be removed BEFORE one adds Reiki or other healing energies.  This is important as cancer cells have the tendency to suck up the Reiki energies and use them for their own growth!  Irrespective of affirmations given.

Namaste and warm regards to everyone,
Elisabeth

THE CURE WITHIN

A History of Mind-Body Medicine.

By Anne Harrington.

Illustrated. 336 pp. W. W. Norton & Company. $25.95.

Recently, a woman whose breast cancer was in remission called me. Cost-cutting at work had left her tense and angry. “I’m worried that all the stress I’m under will weaken my immune system,” she said, “and then my cancer may come back.” My patient is a believer in “complementary” approaches to health and disease, so in addition to taking prescribed hormone blockers, she does yoga exercises, drinks green tea and visualizes her blood cells on patrol against recurrent tumor growth. When I raised the option of a support group, she told me she preferred to work solely with her psychotherapist.

In my work as a specialist in cancer, blood diseases and AIDS, hardly a week goes by when patients do not bring up the above interventions, as well as Buddhist meditation, qigong, acupuncture, megavitamins and macrobiotic diets. In “The Cure Within,” her splendid history of mind-body medicine, Anne Harrington tries to explain why we draw connections between emotions and illness, and helps trace how today’s myriad alternative and complementary treatments came to be. A professor and chairman of the history of science department at Harvard, Harrington has produced a book that desperately needed to be written. Some 60 million Americans use these therapies in the effort to combat serious diseases like cancer and AIDS, as well as the normal physiology of aging. In the United States, office visits to providers of complementary and alternative medicine now outnumber visits to primary care physicians. The costs of such care approach $40 billion dollars a year. Books, talk shows and Web sites present riveting testimonials of clinical benefits from Eastern breathing techniques, dietary supplements, positive thinking and prayer.

Doctors like myself are schooled in the cause and effect of changes in DNA, cells and tissues. We apply this biology to identify what is wrong with a patient, then recommend a medication, procedure or behavioral change that will ameliorate the physical problem. “Quite often, this physicalist way of thinking about illness works,” Harrington writes. “Patients take the antibiotic and recover from their infection, learn to inject themselves with insulin and normalize their blood sugar levels, have surgery and learn that their cancer has gone into remission or take the antidepressant and find they can get out of bed again in the morning.”

Sometimes, of course, standard treatments don’t work or simply don’t exist. And sometimes tests fail to uncover any physical cause for a patient’s suffering at all. But such failures, Harrington argues, explain only part of the widespread dissatisfaction with mainstream medicine. Of equal or greater import, she writes, is medicine’s failure to address the “existential” aspect of illness, to answer the questions “Why me? Why now? What next?” Doctors usually frame their answers to such questions in language that forgoes any meaning for the individual. Whether cancer will return is a matter of statistical likelihoods derived from the study of large groups of patients — or, in lay terms, “bad luck.” There is no meaning in randomness, and for the patient no sense of control. Perhaps someday genomic research will help predict the particular behavior of each individual’s cancer, but for now doctors cannot say with any precision who will relapse or why.

As patients, we may be modern in many ways, but we find such uncertainty hard to accept. Throughout history, Harrington rightly argues, people have strained to make “personal sense” of illness and suffering. Western cultures, like all cultures, have traditionally provided people “a stockpile of religious, moral and social stories to help them answer the great ‘why’ questions of their suffering, and to connect their experiences to some larger understanding of their identities and destinies.” But today, she writes, the story offered by mainstream medicine “is as impersonal as they come.”

In fluid prose and with the precision of a detective story, Harrington offers a taxonomy of the main narratives that we draw on to try to make sense of disease, whether they emphasize our ability to heal ourselves or more magical interventions. The root of most of our mind-body narratives is the Bible and other religious writings that describe the struggle against “possession” by demonic forces. While Jewish mystics offered incantations and other rituals to expel dybbuks, the Gospels associate the powers of exorcism with belief in Jesus. Harrington cites the Gospel of Mark, in which Jesus casts out a spirit that has caused convulsions, foaming at the mouth and gnashing of teeth — an accurate clinical description of epilepsy: “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes. ... Deaf and dumb spirit, I command you, come out of him and enter him no more!” Belief in demonic possession and its exorcism by priests, common to cultures the world over, remained part of Catholic theology, essentially unaltered, until 1999.

Harrington uses the term “power of suggestion” to describe the skeptical narrative that science ultimately developed to explain cases in which an authority figure, whether a priest uttering incantations or a doctor administering a placebo, cures afflictions that may have no organic cause. Much of what today strikes us as quackery in fact originated in attempts to apply scientific ideas to healing the body. For example, the 18th-century Austrian physician Franz Mesmer, inspired by Newton’s ideas, moved mineral magnets around the bodies of his patients in order to manipulate supposed invisible fluids that, like the oceans, responded to planetary gravitation. The patients reported powerful sensations of energy coursing through their flesh and experienced involuntary movements to the point of violent convulsions; many were cured or much improved. Next, Mesmer found he could trigger the same effects simply waving his hands over the patient. He assumed that he himself was the source of healing force, which he called “animal magnetism.”

Mesmer was succeeded by Jean-Martin Charcot in France, and later Sigmund Freud in Vienna, each of whom sought to identify the nonphysical causes of their patients’ symptoms and tried to devise cures outside of chemical pills and surgical procedures. These efforts, Harrington observes, ushered in another narrative of healing, one she calls “the body that speaks.” Charcot and Freud called the underlying condition “hysteria,” and used hypnosis and the “talking cure” to relieve their distraught, usually female patients of those fits of blindness, coughing and paralysis that supposedly reflected buried traumatic memories or taboo childhood fantasies. Doctors treating traumatized male soldiers during World War I called it “shell shock.”

The clergy tried to recapture lost ground in the healing realm, whether in the form of Christian Science or the “power of positive thinking” promoted by the decidedly mainstream pastor Norman Vincent Peale of the Marble Collegiate Church in New York City. Scientists, of course, were not so quick to yield, probing ever deeper into the question of the mind’s effect on the body. For example, the Harvard physiologist Walter B. Cannon discovered that emotions could ramify through the body in unexpected ways beyond “hysteria.” In studies of digestion done in the 1930s, he discovered that animals experiencing distress or rage showed inhibited peristalsis, the ordered muscular contractions that move food through the gut. Tests showed elevated levels of adrenaline in the animals’ blood, which Cannon determined was involved with biochemical self-regulatory processes connected to the “fight or flight” reaction crucial to survival in the wild.

But Cannon also saw implications for human beings. “In the modern era,” Harrington writes of his research, “life had become so fast paced, so uncertain and consequently so anxiety-provoking that many people went through their days as if they were cats faced with dogs perpetually barking at them.”

Hans Selye, a Czech physician and biochemist at the University of Montreal, took these ideas further, introducing the term “stress” (borrowed from metallurgy) to describe the way trauma caused overactivity of the adrenal gland, and with it a disruption of bodily equilibrium. In the most extreme case, Selye argued, stress could wear down the body’s adaptation mechanisms, resulting in death. His narrative fit well into the cultural discourse of the cold-war era, where, Harrington writes, many saw themselves as “broken by modern life.” Selye’s ideas, in her view, were “especially appealing to people who knew they felt worried or unwell, but were perhaps no longer quite persuaded by the doctrine of bad nerves that had helped their parents and grandparents make sense of their experiences of malaise.”

Selye’s work prompted further research on the impact of family dynamics, interpersonal relationships and community ties on health. Most of this work initially focused on the heart and hypertension, prominent in the public mind following President Eisenhower’s cardiac crisis. Later, scrutiny was extended to the emotional dimensions of the other great specter of the time, cancer. If stress lay at the root of so many modern maladies, Harrington writes, then “healing ties” might be the prophylactic, if not the cure, for cancer as well.

In 1989, David Spiegel, a psychiatrist at Stanford, published a widely reported study of 86 women with advanced breast cancer, all receiving conventional medical therapies. Some were randomly assigned to weekly support groups, where they spoke openly about their fears and hopes and were taught self-hypnosis to manage pain and stress, while others were simply given routine care. Spiegel reported that the women in group therapy lived twice as long, 36.6 months, as those in the control group, who lived 18.9 months. (As point of comparison, Herceptin — the most promising new drug for women with advanced breast cancer — extends patients’ lives by a median of five months compared with those who receive chemotherapy without it.) Spiegel’s research seemed to support the assertions of Bernie Siegel, a surgeon at Yale, who in his best-selling “Love, Medicine, and Miracles” (1986) claimed that emotional turmoil was a cause of breast cancer and that dramatic remissions could occur if patients simply gave up their emotional repression, without chemotherapy or radiation.

In one of the most poignant moments in her book, Harrington visits a group of women in a follow-up study designed to replicate Spiegel’s stunning data. Spiegel has not released the results of this subsequent research, although the study was due to end more than seven years ago. Some have speculated that the initial results were a fluke. “Spiegel remains unwilling to say that support therapy does not extend the life of women with cancer,” Harrington writes. “He and his team believe there is still some kind of biological story to be told about the power of healing ties in the case of cancer, even if it might not be quite the story with which they started.” (Clinical trials of Siegel’s approach to breast cancer, she notes, failed to show greater survival rates.)

During her visit, Harrington asks the women whether they thought Spiegel’s group therapy was helping them live longer. “A silent snort went around the table,” she writes. “No, they said, they did not believe the premise of the study — not really. Why not? I asked. Their answer was clear: the evidence was not there for them; they had seen too many people in their group die.” But then one woman surprises Harrington, and the reader, by saying she doesn’t care about Spiegel’s hypothesis. “I don’t think it matters to me at all,” she says. “That’s not why I joined the group.” Why, then, did she stick with it? To learn “how to live better with cancer and how to die better from cancer, something that they could learn nowhere else in their culture.”

In her final chapter, Harrington offers close observations of the interactions between the Harvard cardiologist Herbert Benson (and later the neuroscientist Richard Davidson of the University of Wisconsin) and the Dalai Lama and his Tibetan monks. She admits longing for scientific support for what is, in essence, an “Orientalist” conception, that the “Other” holds wisdom and therapeutic treasures beyond those imaginable to us in the West. Some of Harrington’s wish is fulfilled in the biology of the placebo response. Recent studies show that belief, even in inert treatments, can have profound benefits in relieving pain, likely via release of endorphins and other mediators in the brain. But despite several decades of concerted research in the field of psychoneuroimmunology, to my scrutiny no robust effects of meditation or other relaxation techniques that could combat illnesses like cancer or AIDS have been identified.

Harrington concludes with the questions that her students at Harvard regularly ask: Which mind-body narratives are “true”? Are all the stories we tell ourselves about illness equally valuable? Harrington has already answered these queries in part in the voice of the woman with breast cancer in the Stanford study. Yet, she has still been “haunted” over the years by unusual events, like the case of a man whose tumors seemed to melt “like snowballs on a hot stove” in response to a “worthlesss” cancer treatment that he nonetheless believed in. The physicist Freeman Dyson once noted that, to a scientist, an event like the spontaneous remission of a tumor is viewed as occurring at the asymptote of probability, one in several million, but through the eyes of a believer it becomes not mathematics but a miracle. Harrington shows us that, whatever science reveals about the cause and course of disease, we will continue to tell ourselves stories, and try to use our own metaphors to find meaning in randomness.

Dear Healers,
this is an interesting information about how alternative healing is being dealt with in Brazil....
In most countries of Europe and many states in the USA, there are more restrictions.  In Austria, acupuncture and homeopathy are an exclusive domain of the locally licensed medical doctors as high fees are being charged for such treatments.  Before they got legalized, even medical doctors who practised acupuncture or homeopathy have been called "quacks" and could get their medical license and degree revoked, and they could even be send to prison for practising such therapies.  For your information, Prof. Dr. Bischko (a surgeon who introduced acupuncture in Austria, and Dr. Dorcsi (who introduced homepathy in Austria) both had major problems, and Dr. Dorcsi had temporarily lost his degree and had to go to prison.
Namaste,
Elisabeth

Information about Alternative Healing in Brazil

I had the following information from a member in Brazil;

Brazil has about two more Reiki Associations and Reiki was recognized as a profession in January 2007 by the Brazilian Government.  It is growing more and more. Now, many hospitals are accepting Reiki and Reiki Therapists are free to work. Reiki is now called Energetic Therapy. All Reiki Masters associated (member of a Reiki Association) can apply legal paper to open an office or Reiki Clinic.

Brazil also legalized in January 2007 Acupunture (even though the medical doctors are not happy because many of them think that only doctors can learn acupunture), Fitotherapy, Flower Essence Therapy (Bach Flower Essence is very popular in Brazil, and now Brazil has about 14 Flower Essences Systems). The Brazilian population likes "alternative" therapies and that is why the government could not hold the legalization longer. The legalization has change many things and now it is quite dificult for one that does not work seriously can keep its office longer.

Dear Healers,

something interesting, and a warning about the use of monosodium glutamate in many "tasty" canned, packed or restaurant foods.   Glutamate is a taste enhancer, also used in pet food and the main reason why dogs and cats prefer special brands of canned or dryed food when compared to other readymade pet food without the taste enhancers in it.
In medical school in the biochemistry course I also learned about the so-called "China Restaurant Syndrome" caused by too much glutamate in their tasty food.  Symptoms:  indigestion, flatulence, diarrhea, body pains, overall feeling of being sick........

Namaste,
Elisabeth

Unreal ... I thought this stuff had gone away ... but it must be true .. there are several documents to support the claims below ... click on the links provided and when you get to the link for Published Medicine type in either MSG (lots of articles) or MSG Obese (limited articles) where you will see a number of medical documents to support their findings.  I have tried not to use anything with MSG since I threw out the Accent and a few other products in the 70's ... this is kinda scarey but it is backed with info from several different websites.

Finally, someone else is speaking out against MSG!  The research assistant, John Erb, supposedly worked at U of W as a research assistant.  I knew that there was MSG in Tim Horton’s coffee, since I saw it listed on one of their coffee cans years ago, but try to explain to people that there’s a reason why people will drive across town to get their fix instead of supporting their local coffee shop  . . .  an addictive substance in the coffee, perhaps.

The MSG allegations have been circulating for years now, but this article seems to be the most convincing.  Even if it’s not true, is it worth taking the chance?

MSG IN MOST COFFEE

The food additive MSG (MonoSodium Glutamate) is a slow poison.  MSG hides behind 25 or more names, such as "Natural Flavoring."

MSG is even in your favorite coffee from Tim Horton's and other brand-name coffee shops!

I wondered if there could be an actual chemical causing the massive obesity epidemic, and so did a friend of mine, John Erb.  He was a research assistant at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, and spent years working for the government.  He made an amazing discovery while going through scientific journals for a book he was writing called The Slow Poisoning of America.

In hundreds of studies around the world, scientists were creating obese mice and rats to use in diet or diabetes test studies.  No strain of rat or mice is naturally obese, so scientists have to create them.  They make these creatures morbidly obese by injecting them with MSG when they are first born.  The MSG triples the amount of insulin the pancreas creates, causing rats (and perhaps humans) to become obese.  They even have a name for the fat rodents they create:  "MSG-Treated Rats."

When I heard this, I was shocked.  I went into my kitchen and checked the cupboards and the refrigerator.  MSG was in everything -- the Campbell's soups, the Hostess Doritos, the Lays flavored potato chips, Top Ramen, Betty Crocker Hamburger Helper, Heinz canned gravy, Swanson frozen prepared meals, and Kraft salad dressings, especially the "healthy low-fat" ones.

The items that didn't have MSG marked on the product label had something called "Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein," which is just another name for Monosodium Glutamate.

It was shocking to see just how many of the foods we feed our children everyday are filled with this stuff.  MSG is hidden under many different names in order to fool those who read the ingredient list, so that they don't catch on.  (Other names for MSG are "Accent, "Aginomoto," "Natural Meat Tenderizer," etc.)

But it didn't stop there.

When our family went out to eat, we started asking at the restaurants what menu items contained MSG.  Many employees, even the managers, swore they didn't use MSG.

But when we ask for the ingredient list, which they grudgingly provided, sure enough, MSG and Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein were everywhere.

Burger King, McDonald's, Wendy's, Taco Bell, every restaurant -- even the sit-down eateries like TGIF, Chili's, Applebee's, and Denny's -- use MSG in abundance.  Kentucky Fried Chicken seemed to be the WORST offender:  MSG was in every chicken dish, salad dressing. and gravy.  No wonder I loved to eat that coating on the skin -- their secret spice was MSG!

So why is MSG in so may of the foods we eat?  Is it a preservative, or a vitamin?

Not according to my friend John Erb.  In his book The Slow Poisoning of America, he said that MSG is added to food for the addictive effect it has on the human body.

Even the propaganda website sponsored by the food manufacturers lobby group supporting MSG explains that the reason they add it to food is to make people eat more.

A study of the elderly showed that older people eat more of the foods that it is added to.  The Glutamate Association lobbying group says eating more is a benefit to the elderly, but what does it do to the rest of us?

"Betcha can't eat [just] one," takes on a whole new meaning where MSG is concerned!  And we wonder why the nation is overweight!

The MSG manufacturers themselves admit that it addicts people to their products.  It makes people choose their product over others, and makes people eat more of it than they would if MSG wasn't added.

Not only is MSG scientifically proven to cause obesity, it is an addictive substance.  Since its introduction into the American food supply fifty years ago, MSG has been added in larger and larger doses to the pre-packaged meals, soups, snacks, and fast foods we are tempted to eat everyday.

The FDA has set no limits on how much of it can be added to food.  They claim it's safe to eat in any amount.  But how can they claim it's safe when there are hundreds of scientific studies with titles like these:

"The monosodium glutamate (MSG) obese rat as a model for the study of exercise in obesity."  Gobatto CA, Mello MA, Souza CT, Ribeiro IA. Res Commun Mol Pathol Pharmacol. 2002.

"Adrenalectomy abolishes the food-induced hypothalamic serotonin release in both normal and monosodium glutamate-obese rats."  Guimaraes RB, Telles MM, Coelho VB, Mori C, Nascimento CM, Ribeiro.  Brain Res Bull. 2002 Aug.

"Obesity induced by neonatal monosodium glutamate treatment in spontaneously hypertensive rats: An animal model of multiple risk factors."  Iwase M, Yamamoto M, Iino K, Ichikawa K, Shinohara N, Yoshinari Fujishima.  Hypertens Res. 1998 Mar.

"Hypothalamic lesion induced by injection of monosodium glutamate in suckling period and subsequent development of obesity."  Tanaka K, Shimada M, Nakao K Kusunoki.  Exp Neurol. 1978 Oct.

No, the date of that last study was not a typo; it was published in 1978.  Both the "medical research community" and "food manufacturers" have known about the side effects of MSG for decades.

Many more of the studies mentioned in John Erb's book link MSG to diabetes, migraines and headaches, autism, ADHD, and even Alzheimer's.

So what can we do to stop the food manufactures from dumping this fattening and addictive MSG into our food supply and causing the obesity epidemic we now see?

Several months ago, John Erb took his book and his concerns to one of the highest government health officials in Canada.  While he was sitting in the government office, the official told him, "Sure, I know how bad MSG is.  I wouldn't touch the stuff."  But this top-level government official refuses to tell the public what he knows.

The big media doesn't want to tell the public either, fearing issues with their advertisers.  It seems that the fallout on the fast food industry may hurt their profit margin.  The food producers and restaurants have been addicting us to their products for years, and now we are paying the price for it.  Our children should not be cursed with obesity caused by an addictive food additive.

But what can I do about it?  I'm just one voice!  What can I do to stop the poisoning of our children, while our governments are insuring financial protection for the industry that is poisoning us?

This message is going out to everyone I know in an attempt to tell you the truth that the corporate-owned politicians and media won't tell you.

The best way you can help to save yourself and your children from this drug-induced epidemic is to forward this article to everyone.  With any luck, it will circle the globe before politicians can pass the legislation protecting those who are poisoning us.

The food industry learned a lot from the tobacco industry.  Imagine if big tobacco had a bill like this in place before someone blew the whistle on nicotine?

If you are one of the few who can still believe that MSG is good for us and you don't believe what John Erb has to say, see for yourself.  Go to the National Library of Medicine at www.pubmed.com.

Type in the words "MSG Obese" and read a few of the 115 medical studies that appear.

We the public do not want to be rats in one giant experiment, and we do not approve of food that makes us into a nation of obese, lethargic, addicted sheep, feeding the food industry's bottom line while waiting for the heart transplant, the diabetic-induced amputation, blindness, or other obesity-induced, life-threatening disorders.

With your help we can put an end to this poison.

Do your part in sending this message out by word of mouth, e-mail, or by distribution of this printout to your friends all over the world and stop this "Slow Poisoning of Mankind" by the packaged food industry.

Blowing the whistle on MSG is our responsibility, so get the word out.

It never hurts to be careful in this crazy world we live in.

1 Tip from Tae Kwon Do : The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do!

2. Learned this from a tourist guide in New Orleans . If a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from you.... chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you, and he will go for the wallet/purse. RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!

3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car, kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy. The driver won't see you, but everybody else will. This has saved lives.

4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit (doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc. DON'T DO THIS!) The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go. AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO YOUR CAR, LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE.

And ... If someone is in the car with a gun to your head DO NOT DRIVE OFF, repeat: DO NOT DRIVE OFF!  Instead gun the engine and speed into anything, wrecking the car. Your Air Bag will save you. If the person is in the back seat they will get the worst of it. As soon as the car crashes bail out and run. It is better than having them find your body in a remote location.

5 A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot, or parking garage:
A.) Be aware: look around you, look into your car, at the passenger side floor, and in the back seat.
B..) If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars.
C..) Look at the car parked on the driver's side of your vehicle, and the passenger side. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out.
IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)

6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. (Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot. This is especially true at NIGHT!)

7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; And even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN, Preferably in a zig -zag pattern!

8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic: STOP It may get you raped, or killed. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked "for help" into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim.

Send this to any woman you know that may need to be reminded that the world we live in has a lot of crazies in it and it's better to be safe than sorry.
