The Bow and Arrow Principle!

*****************************************************************
Dear Friends,

The Bow and Arrow Principle is one of the highest forms of leverage
you'll ever use in your business or career. It says "if you want to
hit your target with greater speed, power and accuracy, the first
thing to do is - pull back!"

When we get things in perspective, we talk about "putting the
problem at arm's length" and "seeing the big picture". Extracting
one's self from the day to day grind to step back and do some big
picture thinking is surely an important aspect of any business.
Before we rush at full speed in some direction, it's good to have a
clear vision of where we're trying to go.

I've discovered, by necessity really, that it can be very
productive to follow this process of retreat another step. There's
day to day problem solving thinking, then step back big picture
thinking, and finally... no thinking at all.

Life is full of remarkable ironies, and one of them is that doing
nothing whatsoever with our mind is one of the hardest, and most
productive, things we can do for our business or careers.

Let's pull _way_ back, shall we? Well, we are doing just that!:)
For about two years now, I have been trying to hand over charge of
the communities @ MTIndia to the Indian MT. For one reason or the
other, we had failed to touch home base - until today. I am pleased
to announce that w.e.f. 26 January 2003 the MTIndia Forum will be
taken over by Subhorup Dasgupta, QA & Strategist, WORLDTECH,
Hyderabad. I am extremely grateful to him for volunteering to take
up this responsibility and I thank Mr. Ramakrishna Tummala,
Managing Director, WORLDTECH, for allowing him to do so. Moderating
a forum can be both challenging and stressful, and at times a
thankless and frustrating task; but someone has to steer the boat,
lest it runs aground or into the reefs. Subho can be reached at :
subho@... Please send brickbats and flames directly to:
amit@...

Make it a great weekend, won't you? Take time -- pull back -- to
appreciate the really important things in your life. Make your
loved ones your real priority. It's not the things you give them
that they remember. It's the time you invest with them that will
pay real dividends. Don't fall for the lie of squandering the one
thing they really want from you in order to give them things that,
in the end, don't matter at all. This was the Great Delusion of
business and careers in the twentieth century, and so many of us
are reaping the whirlwind in our most precious relationships
because of it, me included. So are our societies. It's time to
expose it for what it is.

Hey... have fun! :)

Cheers!!!

NEWS AND VIEWS :
-----------------------------
1) Where is the job growth going to be?

Despite some signs that an economic recovery is under way,
employers remain reluctant to hire and good jobs are scarce.
Economists predict the number of jobs in the Triangle will increase
between 1.3 percent and 2.5 percent this year compared to last.
That's down from annual growth of 5.1 percent in the late 1990s.
Thus it's more important than ever for workers to know where the
jobs are -- and where they aren't.

Tom Russo, who coordinates career services at Durham Technical
Community College, urges workers to steer clear of jobs that could
be done overseas, including manufacturing of textiles, apparel and
furniture. Those sectors have been losing jobs for the past 25
years as factories moved to Mexico and China, where labor costs are
lower. Also, Russo said workers should avoid jobs that technology
could soon make obsolete, such as medical transcription or typing.

3) Assam minister chants e-governance mantra

Assam industries minister Bhubaneswar Kalita today said the state
administration is set to adopt e-governance much like other
cyber-savvy states.

Speaking at the inauguration of a unit of Grace I-Net Solutions
Medical Transcription Centre at the Software Technology Park of
India here today, the minister said the steering committee of the
NEC has already recommended the constitution of a working group on
e-governance for taking up different projects during the tenth
five-year plan.

Grace I-Net Solutions (GINS) Medical Transcription Centre today
signed a memorandum of understanding with CBay Systems for starting
the GINS-Cbay Academy of Medical Transcription to produce quality
medical transcriptionists. Altogether 42 medical transcriptionists
from the GINS have qualified for the CBay medical language
specialist examination and the centre has become the first
production centre in the Northeast to go into live production.

N.K. Dutta, president of GINS, said the centre will add another 35
seats to the existing 40 to handle the increasing load of work.

5) New jobs coming to Utah, Gov. Leavitt says

The state will spend $3 million to help train workers for 1,000
health management jobs coming to Utah, Gov. Mike Leavitt announced
Wednesday. In the next five years, the jobs will be generated by
three ''infomatics'' companies - Wipro Technologies, MedQuist and
Practice RX.

Many of the new workers will do medical coding, medical billing and
medical transcription. Medical coders translate health conditions
into about 80,000 codes for insurance companies.

''These jobs are being placed in Utah and they could go anywhere in
the world,'' Leavitt said. ''Utah families will be able to make a
living and live in the place they want to live.''

He described the medical billing, accounting and transcription
service jobs coming in the next five years as high-tech. ''This is
the tech environment of the future,'' Leavitt said.

6) Transcend Services in the black for 2002

Transcend Services Inc. reported positive net income boosted by
new account sales in 2002. "New account sales are primarily
responsible for our significantly improved operating results," said
Larry Gerdes, Transcend president and CEO.

The Atlanta-based medical transcription technologies company had
net income of $890,000 on $12.2 million in revenue, compared with a
net loss of $588,000 on $11.8 million in sales in 2001. However,
the company had a loss per share of 10 cents for 2002, compared
with a loss per share of 14 cents in 2001.
