Publishing schedule
********************************************************
Dear Friends,
We have been publishing irregularly for a couple of weeks, now. I hope
you've noticed it :o)
I have been so short on time that something had to give... and unfortunately
the newsletter was it. I've got more time open now, and plan on putting a
concerted effort back into the list. It's frustrating though, because I know
under the right direction this list would continue to thrive, grow, and
produce great discussions.
It's just a matter of getting enough time to dedicate to it.
Cheers!

1) Job at leisure!
Earning money without having to leave one's home is certainly great! Far
from the world tension, these home-based lady transcriptionists are relaxed
and enjoying their family life. The job opportunity, for these women, has
literally knocked their doors.
The work being delivered to them at home. Hema Jhaveri, 33, a
freelance-editor, says HMT had changed her life completely. "Now, I can work
according to my wish and don't have to care for anything as far as I am
following the deadlines. I can now devote a lot of time to my family,
especially my six-year-old son! Earning a five-figure income from home is
very convenient for a homemaker," she adds.
Ferishta Irani, 34, MT-editor of HMT, is satisfied with his job profile.
"Since I joined the company, I have never had a problem. I even have a
salary package. It's interesting to be at work and in your own bedroom at
the same time. My in-laws too, have learnt the procedure." Time is a vital
factor in this fast developing world, Ferishta feels. "It's a waste of time
and money waiting at traffic signals and burning petrol. It's far better to
sit back at home and work if you are earning the same amount or even more,"
she says.
Rajiv Shetye, Vice-President of a Medical Transcription Company, says, "I am
sure more and more people will opt for such jobs in the near future.

2) US Assns Set To Help Philippine Medical Transcription Sector
Two US Industry Associations have pledged to work more closely with the
Philippines' future programs to strengthen its foothold in the medical
transcription (MT) business. Johnny Cua, president of the San Gabriel Valley
Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Mr. Sean Carroll, president of Medical
Transcription Industry Association (MTIA), expressed confidence and support
to the Philippines Medical Transcription Industry at the forum headed by
Senior Trade Undersecretary Thomas G. Aquino, in line with the country's
first participation to the AHIMA Convention which ran from October 17 to 20
in San Diego, California.
The forum was organized to serve as a strategic and targeted promotion of
the Philippines as the major MT outsourcing hub. Fifteen prospective
outsourcing partners/clients attended, including MTIA Executive Director
Elaine Olson, and two industry experts who gave boost to the Philippines
good reputation in MT business.
"I encourage the group to visit the Philippines to witness their IT-enabled
facilities and advanced cost-competitive telecommunications network," said
Mr. David Woodrow, president and CEO of SPI Healthcare Documentation, who
has been outsourcing his company services to the Philippines.
Organized by the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions
(CITEM), the Philippines is the only country pavilion in the exhibition and
featured an institutional presentation of the offering of 15 Medical
Transcription service providers under the leadership of our local Medical
Transcription Industry Association (MTIAPI).

4) Silent Revolution
In Manipur, nowhere has the impact of the IT revolution been felt more
dramatically than in the fields of health services, commercial film making
and the media, print as well as electronic. The three are today, industries
in their own rights at least by Manipur standard, largely independent of the
government, employing between them, directly or indirectly, thousands if not
hundreds of thousands. They have in fact set off their own server
institutions which too have their own chain of employee structures.
The IT revolution has also impacted other fields of life. Business
outsourcing has in particular shown some very promising results such as in
the area of medical transcription. Interconnectivity, in rural as well as
urban areas, has been an unarguable boon too. The internet and mobile
telephony have transformed lives. While there can be doubt that the benefits
of the IT revolution has landed on our shores, the effort of the state now
must be to be in the controlling hub of this revolution - software and
hardware innovations. For this, a lot will depend on those who shape
education policies in the state.

5) IT, ITES boom in Tamil Nadu
Tamil Nadu is today among the most preferred destinations for global
sourcing in India. The year 2005 has turned out to be a watershed for the
information technology (IT) and informatic technology enabled services
(ITES) sectors in the state.
The two segments are witnessing unprecedented boom in the state. The state
capital, Chennai, now houses all of the top 10 Indian IT companies' either
one or multiple production centers. A major encouraging feature of this boom
is that medium-sized companies are also witnessing higher growth.
In Chennai, professional support services have picked up in a big way with
emerging verticals being legal outsourcing, R&D, medical transcription,
financial services processing, adds Sap.
