Indian IT Companies must focus on Integrated Data Security

********************************************************
Dear Friends,

Indian companies have been forced to adopt integrated data and
security solutions driven by negative reporting on business process
outsourcing (BPO), strict European Union data protection rules and
other regulatory compliances.

As a result, the Union Government and NASSCOM are working towards
bringing in legislative changes and companies are making the shift
proactively to win outsourcing contracts, according to the Global
Security Head of Deloitte, Mr Adel Melek.

Mr Melek said that a recent survey had pointed out that about 25
per cent of the enterprises were ignorant of security related
issues, 50 per cent were in the awareness phase while 20 per cent
had embarked on corrective steps and just 5 per cent were
operationally excellent, being pro-active in their security
infrastructure. Speaking at an event on security and safety hosted
by NASSCOM, Mr Melek said that lack of security infrastructure and
policies in India would provide further ammunition to critics of
outsourcing and offshoring in the West.

Referring to spam, Mr Melek said it was estimated that about 83 per
cent of the global traffic on the Net is considered spam.
Confronted with such a scenario, financial services providers are
faced with the challenge of managing large flow of mails. On the
one side, they are faced with regulatory and compliance issues that
bar them from contacting customers; on the other, being integrated
players, their customers expect better services. One way out is
share data and work in 'coopetition.'

On corporate scandals, Mr Melek said a study of the corporate world
reflected a situation of non-stop action right from Enron.

This had brought to the fore more legislation making it mandatory
for companies to bring in new approaches to both managing large
data and providing necessary retrieval and security system.
Identity theft and KYC (know your customer) are forcing large
financial service providers to come up with a holistic approach to
enterprises. Though it is yet to pick up, it will not be long
before these bring about changes, he said.

Cheers!

1) CBay Systems names Foley president

CBay Systems has named Christopher Foley president of the company.

Annapolis-based CBay, a medical transcription company, said Foley
will play a key role in how the company uses Internet technologies
to build new health information management tools and increase
market share.

Foley has been CBay's chief operating officer the past three years.
He has senior-level management experience with several other health
care companies, especially fast-growing firms focusing on
outsourcing.

CBay is one of a growing number of Maryland firms hoping to capture
offshoring business by opening offices in India. The company's
1,700 workers in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Mumbai prepare medical
reports dictated by physicians in the United States. Technology
developers create software applications to support the
documentation work.

CBay employs 170 in Annapolis. Its revenues reached $31 million
last year.

2) MedQuist Shortens Radiology Report Turnaround Time

Northeast Regional Medical Center, located in Kirksville, Missouri,
recently purchased and completed their implementation of MedQuist's
SpeechQ for Radiology(TM) system. Licensed for 109 beds, the staff
at Northeast Regional takes great pride in providing the highest
quality care for the residents of northeastern Missouri, right in
their own backyard.

Ron Leazer, the hospital's chief financial officer, is always
looking for new processes and technology that allow the hospital to
better meet the needs of its patients, medical staff and
caregivers. Northeast Regional's radiologists now use SpeechQ for
Radiology's front-end speech recognition capability to dictate,
edit and authenticate (electronically sign) a report in one
session. Flexible workflow choices also allow review and correction
by medical editors. Editing the recognized text automatically
updates each physician's speech recognition profile, improving
speech recognition accuracy.

"Our radiologists can now dictate a case, immediately review it and
then electronically sign the report in a single step which
significantly reduces our radiology reporting turnaround time,"
says Leazer. "Our referring physicians and the hospital caregivers
now receive a finalized report within minutes after the exam has
been reviewed and interpreted by the radiologist, instead of the
hours -- or even a day later -- that was the case before SpeechQ
for Radiology. And we have been able to redirect our
transcriptionists to other departments, to provide better service
to other staff members."

Northeast Regional Medical Center radiologist, P.M. Williams, D.O.
states, "The system was very easy to learn and use. After only 30
minutes of training, which included the voice enrollment process, I
was comfortably using the system. In addition, the referring
physicians are pleased with how quickly they receive my final
reports with SpeechQ for Radiology as I have all my reports
complete when I leave the hospital at the end of the day."

Standard Speech Recognition Solution for Healthcare Industry

Nuance Communications, Inc. , formerly ScanSoft, Inc., announced
that its Dragon(TM) Dictation Solutions family has become the

sector. Already in use at thousands of healthcare facilities
worldwide, Dragon NaturallySpeaking(R) Medical, Dragon
NaturallySpeaking(R) SDK (software developer kit), and the

recognition to intelligent workflow processing solutions in order
to reduce the costs associated with manually converting medical
dictation into text, estimated at $10 billion in North America and
$15 billion worldwide each year. Nuance delivers these solutions

4) Medical secretaries angered by trial run

There was anger among medical secretaries in Hertfordshire earlier
this month when the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, which
runs the Lister Hospital in Stevenage, said it was encouraged by
the results of its own seven-week trial involving a medical
transcription service based in India.

It said it planned to put the service out to tender and said
compulsory redundancies among its secretarial staff could not be
ruled out.

Unlike Addenbrooke's, which is considering outsourcing to tackle a
recruitment problem, the trust in Hertfordshire said the scheme was
a cost-cutting measure in its financial recovery plan. It said the
pilot was evaluated by doctors at the Lister who gave it six out of
10. Medical secretaries gave it four out of 10.

The trust admitted the scores reflected some problems with the
training but said a more detailed training programme would be
carried out.

5) Hospital may opt for new typing pool - in Philippines

Hospital bosses are considering sending letters on a 13,284-mile
round trip to be typed up.

Addenbrooke's Hospital could start using typists in countries such
as the Philippines to combat a recruitment problem. If introduced,
overseas typists would start producing patient correspondence, such
as the letters that pass between a patient's consultant and GP.
Consultants would record information and send it around the world
digitally.

A hospital spokeswoman said: "Our preference is to recruit medical
secretaries locally. However, because of unfilled vacancies, we are
exploring a number of options to provide typing services.

A source who contacted the News said the Philippines could be
chosen for an Addenbrooke's scheme. She also said medical
secretaries were highly specialised and their jobs could not easily
be outsourced.

Martin Booth, chairman of Cambridge Health Unison, part of the UK's
biggest union, said the union had not been approached by the
hospital about the option.
Geoff Reason, Unison's regional head of health, also said there had
so far been no consultation. But he said: "We shall oppose it in
every means possible. It is a completely stupid idea. I cannot see
how it can work."

Medical transcription companies have sprung up around the world in
countries such as the Philippines and India, offering
cost-effective and rapid services. One boasts a 12-24 hour
turnaround time and 98.5 per cent accuracy.
