NASSCOM Online Entry Test for all BPO Recruits...

********************************************************
Dear Friends,

BPO recruits from across India will soon take a standardized online
entrance test making the hiring process more streamlined and
democratic. If the pilot program set up by National Association of
Software and Service Companies comes through, BPO employers will
test employees for all entry-level positions.

"We hope that the test will be used along the same lines as the CAT
or the GMAT. But it's not just the standardization that will help
employees and employers. The test can also give students from
smaller towns of India an opportunity to look for jobs in the
bigger metros. It gives them access without having to spend money
on travel and lodging. The hiring process becomes that much more
democratic," said Sunil Mehta, vice president of NASSCOM.

"Larger BPO's get thousands of applications every year and since
they can't interview them all, candidates are often narrowed down
by their colleges - students from better known institutions are
often hired over students from smaller schools. Several qualified
students lose out on jobs due to this," said Mehta.

The online test, which will cost prospective employees Rs 900 to
1,200, will assess them on their English skills, analytical skills,
computer skills and other job-related attributes.

Mehta also believes that the test will considerably cut the down
the cost of hiring for BPOs. "BPOs can concentrate on students that
have passed the test. The results come back in about four days, so
there isn't that much of a time lag either," Mehta said.

The test will be offered at all Reliance and Sify Internet cafés
across the country and web cams and other devices will be installed
to check for identity. NASSCOM hopes to have the exam running at
its full potential by January 2006.

Currently the pilot program is set-up in Delhi and Mumbai, and will
be introduced in Bangalore soon. This will run for three months
with 36 key ITES-BPO companies and nearly 15,000 graduates will
participate in it.

Now we have to see how to reap benefit from the same, in our
industry.

Cheers!

1) CBay Systems Makes Deloitte's List of 500 Fastest Growing
Technology Companies in North America & Maryland Fast 50

CBay Systems, a leading provider of healthcare business process
outsourcing (BPO) services and the largest provider of Indian
transcription technology and services to the US healthcare market
today announced that it was again named to the Deloitte Technology
Fast 500. The ranking measures the 500 fastest growing technology
companies in North America, based on percentage revenue growth over
the past five years, during which CBay Systems grew 779 percent.

"Making the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 for the second year in a
row is commendable in today's highly competitive technology
industry," said Tony Kern, deputy national managing principal of
Deloitte's Technology, Media & Telecommunications industry
practice. "Achieving sustained revenue growth of 779 percent over
five years is a tremendous achievement. We congratulate CBay
Systems on being one of the 500 fastest growing technology
companies in North America."

Inclusion on the nation-wide Fast 500 list follows CBay's recent
acknowledgement as a member of the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 in
Maryland. This list highlights the 50 fastest growing technology
companies in the state of Maryland for 2005.

CBay's Chairman & CEO, Raman Kumar said, "It is an honor for CBay
to be recognized for the second year in a row, but we are
especially proud of these awards, as they communicate our explosive
growth and ever-increasing customer base, providing concrete
evidence of our superior product and commitment to customer
service." He also added, "We have 41 centers in our network in
India, employing over 5000 people and the number is increasing
every month, to cater to our expanding customer base in the US."

2) Eleven Tennessee companies make list of fastest growing

the fastest-growing private companies in the country. The Inc. 500
ranks privately held companies according to year-over-year sales
growth from 2001 to 2004. Tennessee landed 11 companies on the
list.

At No. 16, Franklin-based Spheris, a medical transcription company,
was the highest-ranking Tennessee company, with 2004 revenue of
$152.7 million, or 2710.8 percent growth over the three-year
period.

3) Is Medical Transcription Still a Good Business Opp in the US?

Medical transcription, like most tasks that can be done on a
computer, is being offshored, particularly to India, Pakistan and
the Philippines. However, the demand for medical transcription work
in the United States remains strong, and legislation is pending in
some states to prevent the sharing or disclosing of personal health
and financial data outside the U.S. In fact, California passed such
a law last year, but it was vetoed by the governor. The pressure
for protective legislation has been fed by cases in which Pakistani
transcriptionists threatened to make the medical records they had
worked on public on the internet because they had not been paid.

Another reason medical transcriptionists remain in demand in the
U.S. is because of the amount of training it takes someone without
a health-care background to learn how to do it. Competition from
abroad, however, is impacting what transcriptionists are paid. The
average rate medical transcriptionists charge-10 to 14 cents a
line-has hardly changed since 1991, when we researched the industry
for the first edition of The Best Home Businesses. And since this
work is done in India for about half that rate, you can expect pay
in this industry to be static at best.

Since overnight work is one of the selling points for overseas
transcription services, you may need to offer extraordinary
customer service to be competitive, such as pickup and delivery to
those doctors who still use tapes, seven-day-a-week service or
phone-in dictation.

4) Where students can score back!

Not many students are aware that they can seek redressal if they
discover that an institute they have enrolled in has made false
promises. Postponed exams, unaffliliated institutes and courses -
they have become as commonplace as roadblocks. Yet, not many are
aware that they can seek redressal too if they feel the institute
is falling short of their expectations.

Even making a promise of placement can land an institute in trouble
as a medical transcription school in Durgapur recently found out.
It had advertised 100 per cent placement but folded up before
completing the course. A complaint was filed at the Burdwan
consumer court which held the school guilty of cheating and awarded
each student a compensation of Rs 2,500 and a fees refund of Rs
24,000.

5) Precyse Solutions Announces PrecyseNet(TM) Platform at AHIMA

Precyse Solutions formally released PrecyseNet(TM), a proprietary,

seamlessly integrates the essential elements of the Electronic
Medical Record including scanning, coding, transcribing and
document storage. PrecyseNet also includes management reporting and

improved physician satisfaction, lower operational costs, increased
staff productivity and significantly streamlined departmental
operations.

The PrecyseNet workflow engine drives two new applications which
are also being featured at AHIMA: PrecyseCode(TM), a coding tool
that accelerates the coding process and chart completion and
utilizes electronic signatures, and PrecyseType(TM), an enhanced
transcription application that reduces document turnaround time and
improves document accuracy.
